Skoda Yeti (2009 - 2017)
Elegance 1.2 TSI 5dr
Practical and fairly economic to run daily
I bought my yeti used from a Subaru dealership as the Skoda dealership gave terrible service and was also overpriced. I wanted this particular model, elegance 1.2 petrol due to my previous car, a Mini Cooper clubman being diesel and traveling in to London looked like becoming even more of a hassle and cost. I previously had owned a fiat multipla which was the most practical vehicle I have ever owned and would get one again if they still made them.
So this Skoda has the economy of the Mini Cooper clubman diesel and nearly the practicality of the multipla. The rear seats can be completely taken out, like the multipla, which is a fantastic feature. The only other thing I would want is a fold forward front passenger seat as I tend to carry long items from time to time. Driving wise it is very comfortable with heated seats which is a feature I want now on any future car. It has good pace on a motorway, I drive it in Germany as well so this is important. It’s not too big so it is easy to drive around town. The parking sensor has an annoying bleeping sound which is a distraction and takes a while to adapt to its accuracy. It has big rear pillars so it ultimately is useful. I find it is a bit heavy on tyre wear. There are signs of rust at the bottom corners of the front doors a lot of water gets there when it rains. I had to get a reconditioned gear box on it which was not cheap with the car having done about 110,000 miles but at only approaching 9 years old seemed a bit soon for such a thing? When I knew I had that bill looming I looked around for a new or newer replacement but found that there is not much out there that would be a better car for me. So I had the work done and kept the car.
I always go to private garages for servicing and work.
The new Skoda model the kamik I test drove and it’s not as nice but a reasonable replacement with the removable seats etc but the dealership did not appear interested to make a sale and I really did not see the point of paying more to get less. I still look around at what will ultimately replace this car but for now it looks like a keeper for some time yet. I test drive the VW T- cross it drove better than the kamik, like the yeti in fact, but did not have the practical features so it is not really a good replacement. Again not great experience with the dealer. VW’s of which I have had a few are not very reliable and expensive to fix so while there solid and safe I am not sold on them being any more reliable than any other make. Skoda as part of VW group are not quite as solid but are cheaper to fix. Overall I like this car but I need practical features not high performance, speed limits and all that.
