Skoda Yeti (2009 - 2017)
1.2 TSI 110ps DSG SEL 5dr SUV
Great car - would be nicer with the 1.4 TSI
Always wanted a Yeti and got this for light use (no diesel as miles are too low). Wanted a DSG as when stuck in traffic a clutch can literally be a pain (and millions of American's can't be wrong, surely!). Wanted a 1.8TSI but they stopped producing those (and some seem to suffer issues). The 1.2 16v is a neat engine - pushing it on the motorway gets 36mpg, with some traffic 38mpg, and a gentle run 44mpg - but is not going to be long-lived in the VW Skoda stable as it has been replaced wy the 1.0 3-cyl TSI. It goes well enough - especially with the DSG hiding gearchanges - but could probably do with a little more poke for my driving style: I'd expect the 1.4TSI with 140PS to be the sweet spot, but Skoda never fitted that it seems.
Seating is very comfortable and flexible, and there is good room in the boxy boot. Satnav is OK, but the DSG is a bit too hesitant on pulling away: I always use sport mode at junctions to increase its response.
Difficult to think of a better car for its size though. The New Yeti / K-something is another size up and likely to have trouble filling the boots of its predecessor!
