Regrettably, the H-J website is becoming too irritating to read. This is caused by the overload of advertisements, many with ever-changing graphics, plus the overload of graphics even in actual website topic sections.
The effect is that the website, when loaded in all the browsers I regularly use, jumps about erratically as various parts of the page load and reload their content - often not actually visible. The web page is very unresponsive for many seconds and unpredictable about where the text I am trying to read will be when it does refresh.... Read more
The exact symptoms are: when the car is about to change gear there is a whizzing sound as though the clutch is slipping (I know it doesn't have a clutch as such!) , then a thump as it jumps into gear. This happens both going up the gears and going down, mostly in the lower gears.
The car is a VW Golf SE TDi 105 bhp 1895cc diesel automatic year 2006

Hi
I have a 2006Ford Ka and after the battery went flat I needed to re-set the radio code. I followed your instructions, removing the radio from the dashboard & retrieving the serial number (M038488). The website you recommended gave the code as 1503. ... Read more
Genius! And so simple when you know how!! Thank you so much. All working fine now.
I placed a large occassional vehicle into a garage about four years ago, requiring some mechanical and electrical work and was advised that the vehicle would be ready in about 4 months from the date of dropping off. After 6 months I contected the garage and was brusquely told it would be (open ended) longer, accept it or take the vehicle away. Considering costs of towing I elected for the former.I checked back again, same message.
The vehicle was occasional and stored under cover, so I did not worry unduly. Some time later it appears the garage moved and therefore it was moved to a new location. In time it was broken into. I was contacted by the police on behalf of the garage. I provided my details to the police they liaised with the garage and said the garage would be in touch.... Read more
We don't know what kind of car this is. I agree that it sounds as if the garage may not have exerted full 'duty of care', but if the car were mine I would prefer to have it with me except while it is being worked on - assuming it is driveable, of course.
Bodyshops (if that is what it is) or any garages really, would prefer not to store customers' cars, they just take up useful space. You're lucky they haven't charged you for that.
Question is in the title really, first small person on the way, thinking estate is the way to go, and thinking the 320d Touring looks good, any others worth a look? Read more

Make sure you get it fixed before the next MOT.
A split dust cover is an instant failure, even if there is no wear in the joint.
Hi All,
I have just picked my car up following a timing belt and water pump change. When driving home I noticed water sloshing sounds when accelerating. Is this normal when having coolant drained and re-added?... Read more
Thanks very much! It seems to be getting a bit better every day. I have a new concern now but I'll pop it in a new post. So far seems like all of your advice was spot on.

Hi all,
I bought a car from a dealer and have had all sorts of problems since I bought it. I have been reading up on the Customer Rights Act and have put together this letter. Am I likely to get my money back?... Read more
It is not clear in your letter that you are acutally rejecting the car. Since you are coming up to the end of the 30 day period provided by the new act you should make sure your rejection is watertight. I presume in order to reject, you have to return to the dealer with all keys and paperwork etc.
I'm torn between these two, but my main concern is future reliability of the LR as my budget will only stretch to one with about 80k on the clock. My head says Sorento, heart the Freelander but I'm hoping some wise soul can offer further advice! Thanks in advance Read more
The Ford input really showed with the FL2, reliabilty was excellent for a LR product - but that caveat tells you all you need to know - reliability will not be in the same league as the Soreno.
Indeed - it uses a Mondeo platform shared with Volvo S/V/XC 60/70/80, uses Ford-PSA engines with Toyota-Aisin transmissions and was built in the ex-Ford factory at Halewood....
I can read the top few lines of the first posts as there is an over bearing Kia advert covering it.
