Audi A2 1.4 Petrol - Misfire on Audi A" - John Scott

A2 misfires on one cylinder when thermostat opens and the engine is hot.

Numerous things tried plugs,plug leads,even accellerator pedel.Only misfires when hot.

Any ideas?

Does that motor have individual coils per spark plug? Could be one of those breaking down.

The 1.4 16v engine also as fitted to other VAG cars of the time is fitted with a wasted spark coil pack(unless the A2 is different). Usually you get a two cylinder misfire with this but may be worth swapping anyway as they are prone to failure and are cheap to change.

Compression test may be useful to prove all is well with the oily bits

Had the same issue with an A2 a few years back and it was the ECU.

Many thanks for your information.Can you confirm your vehicle ran smoothly until the themostat opened then started to misfire and a new ECU cleared the misfire. Many thanks.

Have you determined which cylinder is misfiring?Ecu fault?that would be my last option.
