Hi all
I have held a full, clean driving license for more than 9 years.
I got a fixed penalty earlier in the year for speeding with a fine and 3 points. Because I had not changed my licence address, I only realised about the fixed penalty a couple of months later (and the fine was increased along with some red letters asking for the fine!).
The fine has now been paid but because I took too long to send back the licence to the dvla (so they could add the endorsement), they have now issued a letter saying that my licence has been revoked and I need to send it back immediately.
Curiously, the letter also states that I am allowed to drive for 12 months after it has been revoked - how does this work with insurance, etc???
More importantly, what is the process for getting my licence re-instated? Is it merely a case of applying to the dvla for renewal (using a D1 form?). Would they then just send me a new licence with the endorsement added and I will be fine to drive?
All advice and help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi,
Not so long back my clio came up with this engine management light (little orange icon in between clocks.), which limited my revs to 2500. I pulled over and switched off my engine which reset the ECU, then days later it came on again and over time its got worse. Now its every 5 mins or so... ive spent a fortune on it in garages and no body can find the problem. Its had a new throttle body, new pedal and all wiring has been checked. Can anyone help me before im bankrupt?
Thanks for reading, any help or suggestions appreciated... Read more
try wiggling tdc sensor when someone tries to start it for you. Another thing to try is checking three black relay which have a plastic cover over them where the main fuses are from the positive terminal of battery. If they have any corrosion, try scraping them and spray contacts with WD40.
A very general question, is this an MOT failure? The rear door is closed securely and latched in a safe position. It will however not open from the inside or outside due to a failed latch. Any advice would be much appreciated. Read more
>>"I suspect you have a 40" flat screen & sky & all the other luxuries in life but spending money on a saftey issue doesn't cross your mind!"
The usual uneducated opinionated attitude that has made 'modern Britain' what it is today a degenerate self interested and self righteous country. If no one is ever in the rear of the vehicle even a fool could understand it is no more dangerous than a three door hatchback.
A Merry Christmas to you all.
Pugs horn has packed up, checked fuse, all ok, actual horn still works (can check this by doing remote plip and it toots at me lovely)
But, press the steering wheel and not a peep, any ideas what it could be, and more importantly any ideas how much its going to cost me, MOT due in a month so have to get it done asap.
Cheers all

I'm thinking of buying a Sportage, partly because of the 7-yr warranty. I understand it'll exclude many things I'm sure (haven't read the small print yet simply because it'll only be for sale in 2 months time), but whats the 7-yr warranty on the current Sportage Diesel model like? What major things does it not cover? Read more
I think it depends on the demographics. In Manchester it is now a very wealthy city and BMW and Audis are far more common than Hyundais and Kias although I am seeing an increasing amount. I think they are often bought as second cars which they are perfect for really. What is happening to Proton? Kia/Hyundai seem to be steeling all their sales and Proton seem to be letting it happen. I cannot find a single reason to buy a Proton anymore, they are even cheap. I think they need to lower their prices and offer a warranty to match Hyundai.
Manchester is not a wealthy city, check the GPP figures, nor is NW England a wealthy region.
I notice that the first VAG DSG gearboxes are now out of warranty, so people are starting to run them on their own budgets.
Now that the Volkswagen/Audi DSG gearbox has been out a few years, does anyone have an informed opinion on reliability?
What about owners - how many of you have had problems?
I'm interested in a Passat 3.2 DSG and trying to guage my level of risk! Read more
I'm a VAG fan and have just ordered another Octavia vRS estate - my third. The current one has DSG and it's been faultless.
BUT - I've had it from new (March 2011), and my next car I may need to keep for longer as I'm about to retire. So it's going to be a manual.
Hi,
I've bought a Cd player for the Mrs for Xmas to replace the original tape deck in her 1997 Ford Ka. I'm wondering basically how to fit it short of taking it to Halfords etc.
I bought a Goodmans GCE7205 CD Player and i'm led to believe i will need a few things to install this.
I think i'm right in saying i will need Fascia Adapter due to the Dimensions (Depth 6.3 in. Height 1.97 in. Width 7.01 in) and an ISO wiring harness adaptor.
One last thing, no sign of the removel keys, do you have to have a special key to remove existing unit?
Can anyone help with all the above? and is it a easy task to fit.
Thanks in advance. Read more

I know this is a very old thread, but hopefully it'll help people out still looking for this info.
When I hit the throttle hard, at the point when the turbo kicks in and she takes off (and she does) the smoke behind would do a battleship justice, im getting 45+ mpg, but i cant accept this smoke, whats the likeliest problem? or is a diagnostic the only way? i assume you cant turn the pump up/down like my old monetgo!
cheers

EGR cleaned out, split rubber pipe taped up with duct tape (new one in boot ready)
ive removed the small vacuum pipe to the EGR as with it on the car still made some black smoke, whereas without it it makes VERY litte other than at warp 8 (i plugged the vacuum pipe)
gettin 45+ mpg (not great) with an estimate 650 miles on a tankful possible
speak soon

Just so everyone knows, and I'm sure most of you do know, but putting your son/daughter on a policy as a named driver instead of main driver when they are actually the only ones driving it, is called insurance fronting and is illegal - if they are involved in a crash, and the insurance company realises this, they won't pay out. Also, if you do it this way, then your son/daughter doesn't build up their NCB which is vital - and you risk losing your NCB, even if its protected!
When I passed, I bought a new Ford Ka a week later, cost over £3000 for my first year of insurance, my own policy, no named drivers, fully comp. Even at 19 with 0 NCB, you're still stuck because having 1 or 2 years of NCB is what brings it down, not necessarily age. My insurance will be about £900 this year, when the policy is taken out I'll be 19 with 2 years NCB.
Any of the new cars with 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 litre engines are very good for insurance, much safer than old cars so insurance companies consider this.
