HELP, I recently purchased a diesel laguna and I have discovred that the previous owner had been running the car on RED DIESEL now and again. Question is: would the red diesel have damaged the engine/pump etc and am I in for a breakdown anytime soon? Please has anyone got any info. tanx Read more

I was stopped once when I was cabbing, don't know if the C&E guys were trying to put the frighteners on, but, they claimed that when they find evidence of red being used, their opening gambit is to apply tax for the recorded mileage at the expected MPG of the vehicle, unless you can give evidence (receipts) for duty paid fuel.

So a high mileage vehicle driver would be presented with a large claim.

As i said, they might have just been putting the frighteners on, but it went round the cabbies like wildfire, quite a few were told the same thing.

Is it permissable to have "odd" tyres on the same axle (assuming both are radials)

for example, I have a firestone on the front left, and a Matador on the front right.

The rear tyres are a pair.

The front left, is now down to about 3.5mm, and the right is around 6.5 - will this cause handling problems

I am thinking about putting the matador as a spare - and replace both fronts. Is this a good idea? Read more

The Pug 205 & series one 405 will swop ends mid corner if you dont know how to drive a proper handling Peugeot correctly.

Many a 205 has ended up backwards through a hedge on twisty country lanes or worse on its roof.

Dont get me wrong they both have superb handling but there is limits to what the chassis can actually do, ignore the warning signs & go past the limits of the chassis & your then just a passenger.

I recently took my 04/54 Fiat Panda to a local garage for servicing, after being quoted £280 for an annual service by a local main dealer.
The service was carried out to Fiat specification with genuine Fiat parts for half the price quoted by the dealer.
However, the onboard service computer could not be reset by the local garage, using their computer system as they would usually with onboard computers), and Fiat have been less than helpful.
Has anyone any idea how I can reset the indicator so that I'm not constantly reminded that my service is overdue when I turn on the ignition., Read more

3 years ago it is rumoured that Peugeot did not have enough EOLYS and/or FAPs in stock for building cars and many were sent out without them as this was before EUIV regs applied. IF this is true there must be a way of programming an ECU to cope with the absence of the system. That said your car would then be non-EU compliant and subject to a higher rate of road tax.

Saw this on ebay, is there anybody out there who has used this and can vouch for it ? Read more

Don’t take my word for it, or rely on subjective experience alone, look for objective evidence. Theres a guy in the US who runs all kinds of fluids and snake oils in engines and tests them to destruction. Most don’t do as advertised. This one does. Restored compression, improved starting, reduced engine tapping etc. Go check his youtube channel out for yourselves... Project Farm.

Mostly those are the mechanical equivalent of pulling the wings off flies and calling it a biology "experiment".

I am now driving C5 2.0 HDI the annoying feature is that after 20 minutes of listening to the radio without the engine running it shuts down to "economy mode".The only way to get the radio or accesories to power up again is to start the engine, then you get 10 minutes of radio. This feature is so that you do not flatten the battery, fair enough but it is silly that you have to start the car each time to turn the radio back on.Does anny one know of a way around this feature as its driving me nuts.

Aaargh. Our C4 was updated (yet again) on a recall to some new firmware version that has brought about some amazing features :

.Radio turns off after 10 mins and needs a engine start to come back on

.Interior lights switch off after 15 secs (great in the dark when unloading the car or trying to take out the rear seats)

.Only map lights work when engine is on (can't turn on interior light when driving, at all)

.Windows won't close if left open and ignition off for more than a minute. Engine restart required

.follow me home headlights only switch onnable for 30 secs after engine off. Genius, as I only ever walk away from the car in the dark, I much prefer falling over the shrubbery when heading back to it in the dark so don't need to switch them on a return to the car.

This is driving me nuts and is making the car a real PITA over the winter - the Interweb seems to tell us that the delays aren't changeable or switch-off-able either.

Seems to me that some pink fluffy dice has been let loose with the multiplexed electronics and hasn't thought it through at all from the customer point of view - how about an economy mode that comes in at either half an hour or when the door deadlocks are activated but leave useful (and timed options like follow me home) operational.

A good car but being made a real pain by stupid software.

Can anybody please help with the following:
Is there a website or source of information that states what wheels are interchangeable between car makes, for example:
Rover 400 wheels are interchangeable with Honda Civics (they are the same car)
Skoda Fabia wheels are likely to be interchangeable with VW Polos.

It isn't as easy as it seems because the stud PCDs have to match and the offsets have to be similar.
Is there a website that lists make/model PCDs and offsets? Read more

Group B

This website gives PCD, offset and centre bore hole diameters, (but its not as easy to search between makes as the retro rides site):

www.rochfordtyres.co.uk/fitmentguide.asp

Some hubs have an inner flange which fits into the center bore hole of the wheel (my Saab does, and the wheels fit very snugly over them). Although the PCD may be the same, the centre bore hole can be different diameters.
Do all hubs have this flange in some shape or form? I cant remember, its a long time since I've changed a wheel on a different car to my current one?

I have a 53 plate Audi A3 2.0 FSI that has developed a bizzarre electrical fault. The 'bonnet open' warning light is on (the bonnet is secure), the windscreen wash/wipe doesn't work, the screen wipers only work when the car is moving and the alarm has become super-sensitive. Also, the lights no longer flash when I lock the car using the fob, but they do when I unlock it. The rear wash/wipe works fine.

I've started locking the car with the key to disable the alarm, but the lack of wash/wipe is alarming....it's bound to be something silly, so I thought I'd ask here before Audi. Any clues anywhere??!

Thanks in advance! Read more

If it has the same layout as the A4, the convenience CCU lives at the bottom of the passenger foot well. This CCU controls the alarm amongst othe things & has wires from all doors & bonnet connecting into it.

The carpet is thick, plus it has some very thick foam under the carpet....

Hi there, can anyone advise me as to weather this is good stuff or otherwise. I believe that one just pours it into the petrol tank, and it cleans out the fuel injectors. Any comments thanks. Graham.

I am contemplating on changing the engine oil on my car. It has done 17000 miles. The handbook recommends sythetic oil 5W-40,Total Quartz 9000. I rang local dealer who do not stock the Total brand, but offered me Motaquip 5W-40 oil, is this the same and will it be ok to use? If I can use the Motaquip brand, than can I use ANY brand (eg Castrol, Halfords own brand, etc.), so long as it is 5W-40?
Any suggestions on where I could get reasonably priced 5W-40 oil would be welcome. Many thanks.
