I have been given a LWB High-top Maxus van whilst my VW Transporter is in for service.

The LDV is appalling! It has done only 5000 miles and is the second one of these I have driven and the first was just as bad. Awful gearchange, turbo kicks in at the wrong time, naff interior, controls all over the place. Mirrors are rubbish, engine is noisy, radio is like an old transistor thing, it's like been put in the driving seat of a Mk1 Transit but without the presitigious badge.

I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this van at all.

Bring back my lovely Transporter asap PLEASE!!!! Read more

The Chines built LDV is not a dreadful van according to my neighbour who holds the local franchise.

Quality is great and warrantly claims have been minimal.

I'm contemplating buying a used Saab and was wondering if anyone can let me know the pros and cons of the 2 versions of their diesel variants. Thanks.

Interesting to read this thread from a few years ago. 'Plus ca change' - Saabs are still polarising opinions now as then. The one generalisation that can be made is that the less GM had to do with a particular model, the better it was.

hello, just wondered if anyone has had anything similar, my mums grand voyager wont start because of the immobiliser (we believe) both key fobs are not working, so she opens doors manually with key but when it comes to start the vehicle the immobiliser always cuts in? we have tried changing battery in both fobs, but neither work, so the poor vehicle is sat on her driveway not able to start. Just wondered if anyone knew the best way to sort the problem out? we can't take it down to chrysler garage as its auto and wont tow? Read more

Hi I appreciate that it has been a long time since this e in obtaining thread was active. I really need some assistance in obtaining the 21 pin repair kit 05183485AA. I have spentthe last three days searching the net but to no avail. We have a 1999 voyager which I am selling but today it wouldnt start. We have had previous intermitent immobiliser problems. Upon checking the 21 pin it has melted and the buyer that I have lined up obviously needs it fixing before purchase. Any help in telling me where to get this part would be much appreciated. Thanks

You're probably aware of the oversized "walk-through" UPS delivery vans, closely modelled on their US version.

They seem to be phasing them out.

How are these disposed of?

They seem like the van equivalent of the aircraft that Airbus use to move wing sections around Europe.

That would be the Guppy and Super Guppy. There's a Super Guppy at Bruntingthorpe airfield if you ever fancy a look. There's one left in service with NASA.

LDV vans are utter rubbish. I should know - I made the mistake of accepting an Engineering position there just a few years before they went under.

***Erratic idle, stalling, loss of power, fouled plugs, fuel starvation symptoms, fluctuating revs, surging, engine management light lit, running rich ***

I had all of the above problems with a 2001 (51 reg) Nissan Micra 1.0 SE. The car would run ok until it was warm and then all hell would break loose. Got a local mechanic to check the car over and he advised giving it a service to start with as the plugs were fouled. The car ran like a dream after a minor service and clean of the airbox but this lasted for 2 weeks and then the problems started again and the infamous engine management light was permanently lit.

Took it to garage who plugged it into a diagnostic computer but there were no codes stored. Waste of £25.

Also, read that this can be caused by incorrect spark plugs, so off to the Nissan dealers {note, now spelt correctly, and not the slang version! - DD} for correct plugs but problem still existed.

In the end decided to go for the Air Flow Meter/Throttle Body. The company which supplied the remanufactured AFM had only sent it with 2 of the 3 sensors attached. After calling them they advised that we should use the 3rd sensor from our faulty AFM/TB.

After fitting the AFM/TB and missing sensor the car ran ok till warm but then the symptoms started again. Called the company who supplied the part (who's company test-ECUs) and they arranged to send out the 3rd sensor at no additional cost. Next morning, replaced the sensor, warmed up the car and hey presto it runs like new again! Disconnected the battery and after reconnecting the engine management light no longer appears.

From my own experience I suggest if you experience the problems listed above to get down your local scrap-yard and try the sensor that fits to the unit (its controls the idle apparently). If this fails, I'd try a 2nd hand AFM/TB to confirm that is at fault. The scrap-yards we did visit in Birmingham were happy for us to test their part and only to pay if it cured the problem - definitely worth trying to diagnose the problem, unless you fancy shelling out the best part of £300-500 bills on a remanufactured one only to find out it isn?t at fault. Hope you find this useful and it saves you time.

Hi,

This is my first post so please be gentle.

I have a 1999 K11 with what sounds like the exact same fault.

HOWEVER.....

I have replaced the following in a mission to try to get the darn thing running correctly

HT Leads, Dizzy cap (x2), Dizzy (x3), complete throttle body change including three combinations of sensors (Air Flow Meter, Throttle Potentiometer etc), air filter and battery. I have also checked the fuel pump is in full working order.

Yet I still have the problem.

Engine management light does not illuminate when the fault occurs, only if the engine stalls.

Any suggestions? You help and advice is humbly accepted.

My son has a 2003 C2 VTR (semi-automatic gearbox). It has developed an odd problem where it jams in 5th gear and hence cannot be driven.
To recover it is necessary to disconnect the battery, short out the positive connector (apparantly to reset the management system) and then reconnect. The gearbox can then be heard trying to sort out a gear. The gearbox software has been upgraded.
Has anyone else suffered from this problem? What is the cure?

PSA = Citroen,Peugeot,Renault ,they have plants in China/Asia, they build complex transmission units that have known problems ie the al4 /dpo units that suffer from defective solinoids valves ,and overheating due to poor design ,when Renault actuly put in there handbooks that to long in traffic /to long on the motorway /carrying to much weight causes over heating and if that happens you need to lower the heat rang of your thermostat you just know there are problems on the way ,there transmissions need software updates so they say ,and for some reason there choice of fluid looks like only semi synthetic adding to transmissions overheating ,the fact you can't flush these units because it will trip the lock out just goes to show that they don't want people to flush them out and you should always go to to the dealer for everything ,
They east snails and make s*** cars ,I know I bought the wife one !

I understand that the MZR-CD engine is the same in whole or in part as the TDCI in the Mk3 Mondeo. Having seen how much trouble these seem to be causing backroomers, should I expect the same issues with a Mazda engine? Or do Mazda sensibly use their own pump and injectors? Read more

I noticed my car puff out a bit of black smoke the other day which it never ever normally does. I'm wondering if this is the detergents and additives in V-Power diesel loosening and cleaning the injections etc

Has anyone noticed this excess smoke happen; i know for some diesel cars this one could be tricky ;)

Hello, I've got exactly the same problem. I've got a 2.0 petrol 307cc 05 plate. I drove from Norfolk to medway, approx 2 hours, anti pollution fault came on and when the revs go below 2000, they won't go above 1500 and goes into a "limp" mode. Had it plugged in with peugeot planet and it came up map sensor, replaced it and it was still the same. Husband came home and changed the "O" rings around all the injectors and now it's fine :-). It is the second time I've had to replace the "O" rings in a few months. I had bought some from a local garage as Peugeot charge £54.05!!!!! for 4x of the rings. They're like plastic tap washers!!! Obviously something's wrong and ruining the washers but until I find out what that is, I'll keep changing them as and when

Hi

I have a Mk1 Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec Collection at the moment, and just wanted to know whether or not this model car had a reputation for being a bit thirsty?

The reason why I am asking is because from filling her up, to getting to the fuel light coming on, i am only getting a range of around 275-290 miles, and that is with me driving normally, and not caning it anywhere.

I had imagined a 1.8 engine would be getting around 350 miles out a £45 fill up?

My trip computer doesn't calculate MPG, but how much roughly do yo uthink I am getting based on the figured above?

Anyone have any views on this, or could any other Mk1 1.8 owners share how many miles they get out of a full tank?

Many thanks for any replies.

I had a spanking new 53 reg 1.8 Zetec for a couple of weeks as a hire car from work, and I could easily get 400 out of a tankful with mostly motorway use, but generally "boot down" company car-stylee.

Cheers
