Hi Sophie…..my wife has exactly the same problem with her KA, did you ever get to the bottom of what was causing it, was it a new clutch? Many thanks. Mike

Had the car from new. Intermittent light on dash. Taken to Vauxhall dealer numerous times but no fault found. Now out of warranty and clutch fault ,,- the dealership deemed car unsafe to drive so paid for courtesy car as went in 22/12. Vauxhall fixed clutch problem and now want £1.300!!!!! Car has been in for several safety recalls too. Several FB forums state this is common fault and most have had it fixed at no cost. Vauxhall H/O rang me today to say I have to pay, despite me sending them screenshots proving it's a common fault. the dealership left me a voicemail earlier saying car should be ready to collect later today and will give me a ring when it's ready. Obviously I can't keep courtesy car but don't want to pay either but garage are not going to release my car without payment. Read more

I spent my first 39 years in and around Romford. Left 24 years ago.

It's a good place to have come from.

Hi,

I'm looking around for a 7 seater and quite like the VW Tourans. There's a reasonably choice available within my budget - £7k tops, but preferably closer to £5k. I do see a few 2011+shape Sharans and Alhambras creeping into that price range and I am slightly tempted. The problem is that they all tend to have at least 140k miles on them. I'd want to keep it for at least another 50-60k miles and would want it to be relatively trouble free. I don't mind spending a sensible money (average £50 - 75 per month) on routine maintenance and fixing wear and tear items, but don't want to be left standing at the roadside with a car that wont go. Is it too great a risk?... Read more

I’m running a Ford Galaxy diesel manual. It’s a 2013 model and is now at 205k. Other than routine maintenance it hasn’t needed anything and keeps on rolling. I do have a very good garage that has serviced it from new in accordance with the manufacturer guidelines though. I wouldn’t have any qualms about running a higher mileage car, providing it has been well looked after.

Hi, I bought a 2009 1.9 tdi Vw as a trade in. It has 65k miles.
It does not have any fault codes or warning lights on the dash.
It starts perfect but runs very rough and lumpy, will not idle at a constant rpm.
When driving it feels like it is down in power.

The car seems to be fairly well looked after with full service history but as it was a trade in to a main dealer I don’t know much more.
I know this is almost impossible to diagnose fully online but I am just wondering on the off chance possibly this may have happened someone on here before? To me I’m leaning towards the fuel side of things but I’m not sure where to start with that.

Thanks

Before you delve right in and overthink everything just remember this. A diesel engine needs the following four things to run. If it doesn't run properly, or not at all, one or more of these four will be the problem. Check and eliminate each one so that you can examine the others in more detail.

The Which report certainly confirms that AXA offer the best service followed by Start which cover I chose as they offer a better price for multiple vehicles.

But Nationwide Flex at £14 a month still looks good if you need phone cover and travel insurance and multiple vehicles including vans. They use LV Brittania.

The OP from the original thread has not contributed to the Forum since then, so I don't think you'll have any luck there.

My advice would be to speak to the Police, before they come knocking on your door.

I think it is what film critics would call earthy/gritty northern comedy.

It wasn't great was it?...

I'm beginning to get suspicious of just what is actually done at a major or even interim service or indeed at an MOT. All garages are happy to quote some sort of type of service £figure( even a free mot if a service is done at the same time) but what does this include? I think not much.... Read more

Car warranty is must.

No it isn't. It's a thinly disguised insurance policy, the premium of which is built into the price paid for the car and the price of its subsequent obligatory services. ...

So....

Son in law has had a 2010 Kia Ceed for about a year now (1.6 petrol auto). A few months ago he noticed the oil warning light coming on and it seemed to need topping up rather frequently. Local garage found the oil filter was not properly seated, sorted that and reckoned that was the problem. (we were a bit puzzled because there was no trace of oil on the driveway and equally no obvious blue smoke or other indication of engine wear and the car ran sweetly enough). Everything was fine after that, no oil warning lights etc until yesterday when on the Edinburgh bypass he noticed rather a lot of engine noise, followed a few mins later by the cars behind him flashing their lights in warning. Then there was a loud bang and it was onto the hard shoulder. The breakdown guy came to the same conclusion I did i.e. big end gone and sure enough he checked for oil and it was bone dry.... A Nissan Note 1.6 petrol on an 08 plate!

Its almost 14 years old, it may be fine but equally the owner could have moved it on because of issues. Lets hope you are lucky....
