Anyone had a quote to replace the cam belt ( as advised after 75k miles) from a Honda main dealer.
Guys on the civic info forum are saying it's around £1800 ?? Read more
Hi,
Just had my fuel injector changed, car is on 85k miles.... Read more
As engines have evolved then so have injectors. 3 years ago the 2.0 petrol engine had 6 different injectors for a Skoda. My son had the VRS model which blew one of the injectors. It was changed and for 2 months ran rough. After numerous visits to the dealer they finally discovered that they had fitted the wrong one. So if resetting your ECU or whatever does not cure it then may be you should look again at the new part.
I can drive as normal power okay etc soon I pull over take out of gear etc and it's in idle ticking over after 20 seconds or so engine malfunction comes and it's like it's revving but the no power but if I turn off and back on Iit will still drive as normal until I stop and it's in idle mode then engine malfunction again the aa said ecu but work colleagues think it something else can anyone help Read more
Cluster needs repairing. It's the central part in the can bus system. The issue is dry solder joints in the Cluster unit ie the dials.
Hi,
I unfortunately had a collision pulling out of a junction recently. The one way road appeared clear on checking but then as I pulled out another vehicle appeared at speed travelling the wrong way down said one way road.... Read more
What was the name of the road, and the town ? I only ask because you said Junction and while some are not marked most are.
If there was no road markings in front of you, I find it difficult to believe that signs would not have confirmed one of you had to give way with signage....
Hi all
Looking for makes & models of any cars that have rear passenger seats that are all full adult size please ?
Also need boot space for the dog (so no 7 seaters).
Thanks Read more
It depends how big the three adults are.
Three relatively slim, relatively short adults will be perfectly comfortable across the back seat of an Astra, but that's not going to be very comfortable for three rugby prop forwards!...
Is he the guy that's taken over from HJ in the torygraph?

As a DT digital subscriber I reckon the online motoring information has increased over recent months. The large Saturday motoring section itself has long gone both in print and online but there are usually several online articles and or/reviews. There is a bit of reader criticism that a lot of the material is recycled and redated to look newer than it is. On the other hand there are many archived reviews and articles available online.
I miss HJ but this site, and the DT online and print are now giving access to a wider range of writers and views. I detect a less independent, more deferential approach to manufacturers than HJ had. He is a hard act to follow and. I doubt we will see his like again in terms of independence. As long as we are not fed advertorials I will continue to read their stuff with interest.
I've noticed what seems like an occasional misfire on my 2013 Corsa 1.4 SE Automatic. A few months ago, I'd notice an occasional slight knock/bang and the revs would momentarily fall slightly and then go back to normal. Now the weather is a lot hotter, I've noticed when pulling away when the engine is hot the engine bangs quite a bit with the same slight drop in revs. Whilst waiting at a roundabout today for a few seconds there was a banging sensation that I felt throughout the car. Once on the move though, the car drives perfectly with plenty of smooth power. This banging/knocking only occurs when idling and just recently when pulling away.
I've read about quite a few problems with this 1.4 Ecotec engine - I'll get it looked at by a mechanic but I just wondered what is the most likely cause?
It will be a tricky noise to show the mechanic as it's not as though it does it all the time.
The car was recently serviced with 5 W 30 oil (as used from new) - I'm sure I read somewhere that using thicker oil could help but is this likely to be of help in my case?
Many thanks in advance Read more
Does it have air con? Could be the compressor kicking in.
I was driving along "restaurant alley" here the other day and just missed one who swerved out with his big backpack on his back.
Is this legal for commercial use? Read more
Spin would recover costs from the rider, or. Hirer in case of an accident.
Yeah, right!
Hi, I have a 2012 (the 2012-2017) civic 1.8 petrol. 2nd owner, FSH and i've taken it from 62,000 to 134,000 miles. It's been a great family car, 2 kids.
Unfortunately it's affected by an oil burning problem (lots of info on civ info forum). Basically some of the 2012 1.8 petrol models have a poor piston ring design which results in the oil burning. Obviously not economical to try rectify at this stage. Been using oil for a while now and it's probably getting more noticeable, intermittent smoke from the exhaust usually when setting off. Now and again, say if you're slowing for a rbout in 2nd, then set off it pauses slightly and chucks some smoke out.... Read more
Well as you can tell it's bothering me too. I'm going to try the thicker oil and monitor things for a while, if I see it turn for the worse again I'll get rid.
The lower the value of it the easier it becomes to run it into the ground really. You probably did right as you'd have still got decent money for it I assume. The fact used car prices are at their highest for a while doesn't help!...
As so many households must be finding nowadays, we are a little over-car’d for our current needs. My dearly beloved, after 14 years with a Leon 1.9 tdi, treated himself to a new car last February, a pre-reg Golf 1.6 tdi (paid £16,750) – a reasonable choice for a 40 mile commute with a couple of steepish climbs in either direction but we all know what happened next! The car has only done 6,000 miles since then and DB is now in a new job, WFH with the future requirement to visit the office once a fortnight (160 mile round trip).
I bought a ’64 plate Civic 1.8 i-vtec last July with 10,500 miles on the clock (have driven 6,000 miles). ... Read more
Sounds like you've got a great car. I don't understand why someone would get rid of a car with on 11k miles but it's to other people's advantage so mustn't complain :-) It will hopefully do many reliable miles.
With Covid lockdown restrictions, many cars have done low mileages in the last three years.
It would be interesting to know if this is just UK advice.
Good to see this opinion. I think it makes sense. Modern cambelts, if properly made, are extremely durable and probably stretch less than chains after high mileages. Our rusty old Focus went to the scrapyard 21yrs old with its original cam and poly-v belts at 162,000 miles. Its replacement Peugeot 2008 1.2 puretech engine has a BIO. Early versions were blighted by a bad batch of belts which crumbled, causing much damage to many engines and Peugeot's reputation. But I have no intention of ever changing its belt despite Peugeot's introduction of cautious change intervals, unless it fails its width test or looks suspiciously worn. In the last few years squillions of these excellent engines have been made, racking up the miles all over the world in lots of different car models with no further significant problems AFAIK....
