Last week the timing belt on my 2016 Peugeot 308, 1.2 Puretech broke at start up and trashed the engine.
My engine had done only 42K and in March had passed the JZR safely recall check.... Read more
I bought a 18 months old Land Rover Discovery Sport in May 2017 from a Land Rover garage. It had around 27000 miles on the clock at the time of purchase. The car has been serviced regularly at Land Rover garages as per service guidance. The last service was in July 2020 (at 72 months service) which has not identified any problems. The next service was due at 96 months (which would have been July 2022). I have taken extended warranty until 31/05/2021, at which point, I have not renewed this.

If the car has a full JLR service history then this needs to be at the dealer irrespective of the £295 charge as there might be some goodwill payment. If you have had it serviced outside the JLR network then chances of goodwill is almost zero. It's not unknown for oil to be sent off for professional analysis, in case the wrong spec has been used.

For anyone who has driven a Kia Sportage 2016 onwards, the Korando is an easy car to adapt to. Different finishes to the various parts of the dashboard, but control locations pretty well identical, so no problems there. I think so far I like the shape of the upper dashboard a bit better in the Korando.
Digital customisable speedo screen rather good. Speed shown in nice large digits and road speed limit shown in red just underneath,... Read more
Now at 17 months and barring the initial problem with the coil pack all is doing well.

Hi, hoping someone can give me some advice!
The clutch on my 65 reg Corsa has recently started sticking to the floor, and when this happens I'm unable to put the car into gear. I am however able to use my foot to lift the pedal back up from the floor if this happens, allowing me to continue driving.... Read more
Only slightly relevant, but when it happened to me on an 1800 Marina it was the slave cylinder,
Can't remember how (or if) I determined that, but another one from a scrappy fixed it. Was about a tenner I think....
I had a ride in a friends VW Tiguan 1.5 dsg. He had recently changed it from a 7year old BMWX3 2.0D auto . A very nice place to be and to be honest there was little difference in the performance ride room etc.
However the Tiguan has a touch screen and along the very top of the screen is a symbol of a little man in a hat. Try as he may he cannot find out what it means/does? Has any one got any idea please. Read more

Haven’t looked much until recently, due to illness.
Been looking a bit at Mazda 3s.There is quite a few ‘low mileage’ examples around, but they often have notes such as ‘ full underside covered in underseal’ or MOT advisories for rust. I guess those are ‘too good to be true’ and that a higher mileage car is likely better. One of them was covered in grease when I had a look, too?
Any idea what I should expect for £4K in age/mileage. Is there too much mileage on one of these?
They are still available just don’t want a car that’ll be killed by rust!
Has anyone in the real world ever tried this and does it improve the action of wiper blades? Keep reading on the net and seeing youtubes promoting this but since I never use old blades I have never felt the urge to find out Read more
Treated the car to Genuine Honda blades £30 - magic - what a difference. Only the 2nd replacement set in 9+ years CRV ownership...

Guessing the Jeep is a non-runner?
We are not looking for that type of car. The ones I listed originally are all medium hatches. When you consider that Jeep has a poor reputation and their cars are pretty much Fiat mechanically why on earth would I want one instead of the Kia/Hyundai/Toyota/Lexus in mentioned originally all of which have good reputations and long warranties.
After reading the reports of the recent bad weather associated with Storm Arwen (fortunately not bad here in Berkshire) I realise that in really bad conditions (storm force winds, torrential rain, flooding or snow) the best advice would be not to travel at all, but if you absolutely had to, what vehicle models would members prefer to be driving? From the look of that Sherp they might have taken quite a lot of it from an off-the-shelf Bobcat.
Hi,
I'm getting this strange popping noise coming through the intake manifold in my 2007 XC90 D5 engine. I don't hear this noise when I open the oil filler cap- it only comes though air intake hose. Its really loud in cold start! Please watch these two YT videos.

In this video I'm checking the SCV connected to the pump. SCV gets closed when ignition ON and very small amount of air getting to plunger side. Is this how SCV should work?
I'd highly appreciate if you could advise me on this
Thanks
