Hello,
I bought a 2010 Corsa from a main dealer in November 2013 with a full service history. There were several smallish jobs to get sorted and one of these was the heater control. It was impossible to keep the control knob on the bottom two positions; it sprang back with a lot of force. Even holding it in for a couple of minutes didnt always prevent it springing back. I was told it needed new cables and these were supplied and fitted by the dealer. Exactly the same thing is now happening again and the 12 month warranty on the cables has now expired. I have tried lubricating the cables but there is no way of doing that without taking the control off. Is this a common problem with Corsas and does anyone know how to take off the control, lubricate the cables behind and refit it? I have owned a lot of cars and this is a "first" for me! I have contacted Vauxhall customer services but they cannot help. Read more
For anyone with a sticky directional switch that springs back to the top setting, try the following to fix it:
Using removal clips, remove the CD player/stereo and try to unplug it. Then slide out the heater controls box, there are two clips on top and then you need to push it out from behind using strong force (there seems to be some clips that hold it in at the bottom or something). The heater controls box probably wont come out all the way because of the wires. Although you might be able to unplug the blue and black connectors from it to free some space.
To fix the actual problem, check the metal wire that goes towards the directional switch. It should be straight and have no bends in it. Straighten out any bends.
To check if it’s fixed, feel the other end of the white cable (up in the dash) while changing the directions, the parts in the dash should change with each direction and it should no longer spring back.
Make sure you reconnect each connector when putting everything back.
Hope this helps.
My 2008 Peugeot with 40,000 miles had just cost me £4000 for a new Turbo and Engine becuase of this DPF thing. The fault occurred as a loss of power, no fault lights or any other warning sign that there was a problem. I bought the car second hand from a dealer who didn't offer any advice re DPF's, indeed it's not something I was aware of until I was without a car. I don't understand how the motorist is having to foot the bill for what is essentially something that isn't fit for purpose? Can someone enlighten me? Read more
AIUI low SAP oils are a requirement for DPF equipped diesel cars. Reason is to do with ash from the small quantity of oil burned in even best of engines which can cause issues for the DPF. Low SAP = low ash.
The issue with certain PSA 1.6 diesels, particularly 16 valve versions, also used in some Ford and BMW Mini applications (the diesel of doom) is down to a sump strainer blocking and starving the turbo of oil. Susceptibility to blockage may be increased if incorrect oil is used but I cannot see why SAP specifically would be a factor in that. Of course wrong oil may be BOTH incorrect SAP stuffing the DPF AND prone to sludging/blocking sump but I cannot see why SAP and turbo failure are linked.
Just started my car (Fiesta 63 plate) and 'Power Steering Malfunction - Service' came up on the central display and I had no power steering.
I turned the engine off, phoned Ford to book it in. I then thought I'd give it another go. This tme no warning and power steering back working.... Read more
Hey friend

My car has just had a full service through a vauxhall dealer/garage and they told me that there was a slight misting of oil coming from the pipe to the gearbox but ticked all the green boxes on the vehicle health check sheet and said it wasnt anything to worry about. A couple of days ago (2 weeks after this service|) my car started to rev really high before changing gear (my car is automatic) and as I got to a junction and after hearing a loud noise, it wouldn't move at all. I called the RAC and they linked my car up to their computer and it picked up that there was low pressure in the gear box due to low oil. My car had to get towed to a garage and they have just informed me that I need a new automatic gearbox and torque converter and that the cost would be £2600 (for reconditioned parts). I took out an extened warranty (a big con) when I bought the car two and a half years ago but they have said as there is a claim limit of £2000 I would have to pay the balance.
Surely the garage who done the full service should have checked the oil and seen that it was low, which probably would've prevented the damage to the gearbox in the first place. Can you please let me know your thoughts as I feel the Vauxhall dealer/garage is part to blame for this. Read more
After now having a "reconditioned" gearbox and torque converter fitted, there still seems to be problems with the car when it tries to change gear. The revs are now going up to 3000 before the gears change and the car sounds and if it's struggling. Something is clearly not right. It's never seemed right with gear change since I bought it, but when I took it back to CarGiant a week after buying it, they said it was normal! If the gearbox is struggling then am I going to end needing another gearbox? I think I'll be phoning Vauxhall Customer Service tomorrow.
Hi. I have 308 hdi diesil 92 bhp 2010 74,000 miles. The sound is only slight and I never noticed it really.
Peogeot dealership just advised me that is probably the water pump failing and offered to replace the water pump timing belt and anti freeze for £400. Apparently all these parts are related when it comes to fixing a water pump.
I would say that I have only noticed a slight medium to high pitch hum when idioling. And a slight increase in fuel consumption. Used to get 70mpg now 67.3mpg using same driving style over same destinations.
I guess my question is, the dealership technician says it's probably the pump. It might last and it might not. He listed it as urgent attention and red traffic light on their inspection sheet whilst they did the service. What would you do? Ask them to do the work?
Oh yes forgot to say they could not do the service because the air deflector covering to engine is stuck on. The recommend labour charge of £50 to cut the bolts off. Read more
Just get a replacement DPF from CATS2U, they're not dear for Peugeots and far less hassle keeping it "stock" than messing around getting it gutted and remapped.
Hi, I have a opel astra 2001 with 160.000km and recently it has started to make a sound Coming from the left back of the engine) almost where the altenator is) very similar to a tappet gone bust. The sound is the same when the car is hot or cold, temp does not matter. Its very very loud. I have changed the oil and run some liqi Moly Tappet/lifter aid in to the engine, but it has not made any difference. I have read that it could be a water pump, cam tensioner or a tappet. Would anyone have any idea what this persisting noise can be? I did not change oil filter and i did run some engine cleaner through the car before i dropped the oil. Next step is to reduce that oil by 2ltrs and add 2lt deisel, let it run through to clean engine, then add new oil and filter.
The oil i have just put in it is Liqi moly 10-40. Any ideas what it could be, im reluctant to take it to a mech, coz they charge and arm and a leg here in germany.... Read more

I got rear ended at very low speed within less than 48hrs of taking delivery of my brand new car. This resulted in some paint being completely removed from a crease on the lower part of the bumper. For various reasons I have decided not to respray the bumper. Bought some touch up paint in a jar and need advice on how to apply it. The affected area is about 3inches across and under 1/4 of an inch high....it's basically a thin line across the bumper, on a crease. I will be cleaning the area with white spirit before doing anything. Do I need to apply a primer? Should I apply the primer/paint/clear coat with a fine brush or a cotton bud? Should I use cutting polish at any stage? Read more
Well don't powerwash it! Sponge bucket and hose is the best way to wash any car.
The paint should not peel, if it does, that's a manufacturing fault and would have peeled under a powerwash anyway....
Hi I have a citroen relay 2.2 hDi that is producing a lot of gray smoke I did a fuel system clean And the smoke seem to go for a while until a few days ago it seem to come bac but not as bad as it was, But today traveling at 70 it just reved itself up dropped in to limp mode for about five seconds with a huge plume of gray smoke then died a few attempts at restarting it and it did I made it home about 5 miles but there is a lot of gray smoke Levington the exhaust.

does the crankcase system on this engine have some sort of filter?turbo has been ruled out,but it has been noted that the oil level has increased, they suspect injector issues, leaking diesel into the sump
they both seem to have the same performance I enjoyed the test drive in both (both cars are new), being non technical I would value your advice on which you consider the best buy Read more
