what can i do to solve that problem?? Read more
Hi Everyone
A few weeks ago I noticed that the jet of water coming out of the windscreen wasker spouts had lost some power - the water was barely hitting the screen. A couple of times it took a few presses of the button on the streering wheel to get some water out (and annoyingly the wipers themselves were going at it on a dry windscreen making it even harder to see!).... Yes you will get wet and it could be messy! So what!
I have done it on two Honda Accords, (2004, 2007) and a Vauxhall Omega, (1999) which seemed to have a habit of getting "gunged" up....
Looking at buying a (57) BMW 1 SERIES HATCHBACK 116i SE 5dr [Dynamic] . It's done 90,000 miles. I'm a bit unsure about the high mileage on the petrol engine? Also anything else to look out for? Thanks Read more
There has been such progress in the last 10-20yrs in metals, machining and oil that even small revvy engines seem to be durable as long as they remain leak-proof. I expect our 15yr old Focus 100PS 1.6 Zetec to last for ever (even its cambelt ;-). It's quite nippy enough for SWMBO. What I'd really like to know is how durable the new generation of turboed 3cyl engines are. These seem to be the future for small cars.
Hi,
I've just bought a new CX-5 2.2 SE-L Nav Diesel Automatic, with delivery due mid September. However I have just found out (my fault, I should have looked into every detail!) that no spare wheel is provided!... Read more
I have just got the wheel kit from Mazda. I didn’t have the replacement floor. The only difference is some blocks of foam board to support the floor. Keep the one you get with the car and get your own board £10. Cut to size. Saved £80
Hey folks, my mother just bought a 2013 Astra that she drove me in today. In the process, I was attempting to connect her phone to it with Bluetooth. I got part way through doing so but it asked for a voice command and never responded, freezing the stereo with no sound coming out. This was after a successful attempt to connect it my my own phone because hers initially wouldn't work.
It's now stuck on, completely unresponsive with now sound, and won't turn off, not even after the engine has been offfor over half an hour. Strangely, traffic reports still come through as alerts and can be switched to with the TP button, but it's completely unresponsive otherwise - except for occasionally half a second on ignition when the radio comes through before dropping silent again.... Thanks for the help :) We went out after the ignition was off for over an hour and the screen was dark, and on ignition this morning it came on fine - I think there must be a cutoff after an hour of no operation (not 30 mins as the manual seems to indicate) so no battery disconnection/callout needed in the end.
Have had a ford Kuga since March and have constantly been having problems with the DAB radio dropping out. Has been back numerous times for patches from ford as well as having a new radio fitted, still not any better. Have checked the DAB signal in the areas that we are driving and the stations that we are tuned to are all in the good reception range. Garage telling us that it is "What happens with DAB radios" so we must basically live with it. Today we noted each time it dropped out and for how long and the station we were listening to as well as the area we were in, in about 5 hours it dropped out about 23 times! Sometimes it is for a few seconds but others it is for 3 - 4 minutes and we end up having to retune the station!

Hi, new to the forums and looking for some advice (sorry if this has been covered elsewhere):
Basically, the clutch on my 2.5 year old i20, 15,500 miles on the clock, has started slipping in fifth gear. I've taken it to the dealer, who quoted me £80 to inspect it and tell me whether it's a warranty fix, or down to wear and tear; they've taken it for a road test yesterday and did some external inspection (without looking at the clutch itself) and the road test engineer is confident it's down to general wear. They're now telling me that the £80 was quoted by a call centre operator, not the garage, and wouldn't cover the necessary work to visually inspect the clutch.... Read more
Just a quick update: a local garage has taken the clutch out and discovered that the problem has been caused by a faulty gearbox oil seal, which has been leaking over the clutch. This, it turns out, is a warranty repair
Presume this means you have paid to have the car stripped and will now have to pay to have it reassembled. The fact that a non-Hyundai garage have stripped it may mean that Hyundai will not accept the warranty work....
My wife has a 1.4 VTI which is sluggish in starting and has an erratic dashboard temp. display. Research indicates that this may be due to a faulty engine coolant sensor but where is it? I have searched high and low but am unable to locate it! I assume it has one so any help in finding it would be much appreciated.

I just got in my car to drive and it seemed to shudder whilst driving then I noticedthe warning light on. I had only driven for a minute so just went back home. Any idea what it could be? it's nearly 8 years old but is regularly serviced. the last service was 3 months ago. it's done about 55k miles Read more
If the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on, the orange lamp with an engine symbol, it means that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a fault with the engine management system relating to emissions, and has stored a fault code/s in respect of that fault. You will need to get the car hooked up to a suitable piece of diagnostic equipment to read them. The warning lamp merely alerts the driver that a fault with the system exists, but it does not tell you what the fault is.
The problem could be many things, and you really cannot guess. If you can get the fault codes read please post them here, and I'm sure many people on here can help. Be aware though in any event you will need diagnostic equipment to clear the codes and extinguish the warning lamp.
Wondering how the new belt drive TSi units from VAG and the small Ford 1.0 Ecoboosts are doing in the real world. They've been out for 2 or 3 years now, there must be some information as to reliability and durability. I ask out of no particular reason except an interest in such things. I must say I have failed to find anything adverse other than one or two stories of high oil consumption on the TSi and a few premature clutch wear issues on the Ford unit. Maybe VAG have resolved all the issues the older chain drive unit had? Ford must have sold thousands of the 1.0 too and there seems to be few problems. What does our panel think?
Pretty sure our 90 ps Passat was a Tdi. Was the non-turbo 1.8 75 ps?
Edit - Wikipedia seems to confirm 75 ps....
I'm very worried at an increasing number of people who, when they have an engine warning light or information on screen, they're taking the car to have a diagnostic check - but assuming that clearing the fault codes fixes the car.
It was like the car I looked at for someone last week. No service history since 2012, because the owner believed servicing was done every two years or 20,000 miles and they hadn't done 20,000 miles yet, so didn't think it needed one.
