I have driven a civic with the I-CDTI and a golf with the CR 2.0 TDI.

I preferred the honda engine but simply because I am used to petrols and the honda diesel was more 'rev happy'....

I have a 58 plate mondeo titanium 2 litre petrol. Had car about 6 months and battery died on me. Changed battery, all good. About 3 months later car died again and breakdown couldn't start it battery was so dead.

Since then it has failed on me half a dozen times. The last time I did a 100 mile run on a thu, drove it short distance to work and back on fri, by 10am sat morning it was dead.

Ford and local auto electrician say intermittent drain isn't happening when they have car and say cant find anything wrong. Just let my local guy have car for a week and guess what, the b***** thing didn't drain!

I am at a loss. Ford updated all software and did some technical service bulletin on intermittent drain on instrument cluster. That didn't work. Got an earth strap fitted as one guy said it could be an earth issue. That didn't work.

Car has full ford service history and is a beauty of a car... When it works!

What do I do? Do I get a more powerful battery? Anyone have any ideas? Losing hair as a result!

Thanks in advance. Read more

Hi, i could do with a bit of advice. At the end of April i needed the engine replacing in my x type. I sourced a used engine myself and had it shipped to the mechanics works. He quoted me a rough price for labour of £400. In all it took 5 weeks to do what should have been a few days work and that was with me constantly chasing a completion date. In the end i paid 600 which included for some parts and fluids. when I got the car back he told me that the coolant pressure cap was damaged when he removed it and he would have replaced it but he didn't have one, so at some point I should get a new one. After having the car back for 5 days, while driving down the motorway the coolant hose connection to the. radiator came off and the engine dropped the coolant. Now i didnt notice this untill the damage was done and to cut a long story short after some tests he advises that rather than repair the engine it would be better to replace it..his standpoint is that he could get me a discount engine and do the labour for 200 but. He will not do the repair free of charge. I have informed him that i am not happy with that and if i have no other recourse i will confirm all this in writing to him then have the car taken to a different garsge to have the work done and recover the monies through legal means. The coolant pressure cap had been replaced by the time of faliure b

You may indeed. When I spoke to him prior to collection I asked if he would take payment by card as I am not in the habit of walking round with £600 in cash in my pocket. I was informed tbat although he could take card payments it would cost 20% more if i were to take that option. Now we all know what that means but at no time when i asked him to qoute the job did i ask for a "discount for cash". As i had budgeted what i had been qouted i didnt fancy paying the extra 120. The lack of receipt is related to that. Stupid on my part i know but i think he will strugle to deny doing the work. We have had 30 - 40 phone conversations over the last 6 weeks allong with my engine being delivered to his works and my car being recovered to there twice. Also he still has my origional engine. I would have thought the idea of going to court over a job thst was done "under the table" and the possible accosiated bother with the VAT inspector would be another reason for him to settle.

Hello everyone,

I am having some serious car problems and thought I'd have a go online to try and get some help.

My name is Simon and I'm from Malta and drive a 2006 VW golf GT 2.0tdi 4motion.

I am experiencing a problem that no mechanic is able to find a solution to (Been to 2 different mechanics, both well known).

Okay so my problem is;

Randomly, not always - when I turn the car on and get on with were I need to go, I realise that my car has no power at all - Sort of in ECO-Mode.

It takes double/triple the time to rev up and when on low gears (first, second and even third), it doesn't give those 'kicks' of acceleration it usually does.

My solution, turn off the engine and on again which 80% of the time fixes the problem.

Today, I had some errands to run and made about 4 stops, I had to turn the car off and on again 3/4 times due to this problem.

What my mechanic done so far;
- New EGR system
- Turbo cleaning
- Brake/acceleration pad sensor
- Air-flow meter
- Hours calibrating the computer.

May I add that no errors at all are being shown on the computer. Multiple versions were used and still no error.

At first, when I went to the mechanics with this problem, They said that I might be imagining things, since they said it's very rare if not impossible that a car shows these symptoms and no have an error code. So I waited for the car to do it again and drove it to the mechanic how it was for them to fully understand and in a way, believe me.

Please, can anyone help out? or give any advice you might have.
I love my golf, but this problem is stressing the hell out of me. Not to mention these expenses.

Thanks in advance,
Simon Read more

I am a new user here on what looks like a very useful forum. I wondered if any one knows the outcome of this case above.

I received and replied (recorded, with proof of delivery by signature from the SRB, which I have a copy of) to a NIP within twenty eight days and have since left the UK for a long summer vacation. Whilst away I have become aware that a seven day notice has since been sent to my home in the UK stating now that "By not replying to the original notice (I) have already committed the offence (of failing to give information as to the identity of the driver of the vehicle)" I am on a boat in the medeteranian and would incur significant expense in obtaining and replying to the new seven day notice. I have no idea as to how best proceed due to my current location and believing that I have already fulfilled my legal obligation under Section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Does any one know the outcome of this initail thread or have practical advise on how I should proceed? If so please do share....

It could be that the centre bearing on the o/s drive shaft has failed, this will allow the shaft to float and come out of the diff, I had it happen on an XM.

I recall an article in a paper a few years back saying that the environment was poorer because there were fewer flies around. Proof was the reduced number of flies on a car after a long summer journey.

Well I can tell you that after our trip to London on Sunday - flies are well and truly back! Had to get the power wash out today when I realised that I couldn't remove the smears on the windscreen by wash/wipe alone. Read more
