Hi all
Driving home this evening when a message flashed on the centre consol saying 'Braking System Faulty'. The ABS light along with a 'STOP' light came on on the dash, Brakes working perfectly, nothing has been done to them recently. Shortly after another message appeared saying 'power steering faulty' but I still had power steering. The braking message appeared about 6 times, the power steering message only once. I've only had the car (it's an 07 plate) since May and have already had to have a full clutch kit replacement due to a faulty thrust bearing. Can anyone shed any light on what this problem might be and what I should do next? Beginning to think that buying a newer car in order to save money on running cost was not such a good idea and I should have stuck to my trusty T reg Fiesta :( Thanks in advance Read more
You're unlikely to get a reply to a 6 year old post I'm afraid
Wondering if any Mazda cx5 2.2d owners have the same problem as I have? Diesel in the oil, level seems to rise to the x on the dipstick just over every 3,000miles I have called Mazda UK and they tell me there is no issue with my model and no recall, still awaiting on the manager returning my call, it may take up to 3 days that's customer service for you from Mazda, yet I have paperwork with campaign AD016A replaced dipstick & reprogrammed PSM, unfortunately just over another 3,000miles covered and the oil level is just about touching the x on the new dipstick fitted. Car has now got 7,200miles going in for the second time can anyone give advice?
My advice if you are thinking of buying a Mazda cx5 2.2d with the problems and experience I have had with the car I loved, don't buy one until Mazda comes clean with the problem that's imaginary ? Read more
Our CX5 Diesel Sport auto was built in mid 2014. If I'd seen all these reports before buying I might have looked elsewhere, but so far we have had no engine problems. Most journies are 7-10 miles, some longer and we get around 46mpg.
I have however noticed that the gaiters have failed on the front shock absorbers (15,000mls) and the vehicles is about to go to the main dealer for an appraisal. New gaiters or complete new shocks? Will the old shocks have been damaged by ingress of grit and salt water? Should I be insisting on complete new shocks? ...
Hi my new model 1.6tdi leon radiator fan stays on for up to 10 min even after a short run on a cold morning. if i turn the engine on and off the fan goes off.

Your car is in process of DPF regeneration.
Check RPM before turn off engine,it should be 1000RPM ,normal is 800RPM....
I have a 57 plate zafira life. 1.6 petrol with manual transmission. Since day one it has just been problem after problem in and out of the garage costing us a small fortune on parts and plenty of time in courtesy cars. The biggest issue was in January this year when the engine was reconditioned... To be honest I think they only did this as they couldn't figure out the underlying issue.
Since January it has been ok but I have always thought since then that it sounded a little more 'gruff'. More recently, over the last two weeks it has developed a very loud noise. The best way I can describe it is that inside the car it sounds like a blowing exhaust with a sort of whirring noise that is similar to the sound of failed wheel bearings. Today we also noticed a kind of squeal whilst going up a hill/ at lower speeds.
The whirling and growl only seems to pick up once over 2k revs. it isn't present if you depress the clutch and gets louder on acceleration. There is also a random rattling that doesn't seem to present at any particular time just periodically comes and goes.
We took the car to a garage today and they took it for a test drive to listen to the sound. The guy said they thought it was the gearbox but because their gearbox specialist wasn't in today he couldn't properly diagnose it and worst case scenario was a new gear box.
I will take it for a proper diagnosis on Monday but until then I would really appreciate anyone's views on whether it is likely to be the gearbox or even if it's specific parts which could be replaced to avoid the expense of a new gearbox which I really can't afford. I don't want to be stung for the gearbox if I can replace parts at less expense.
The car is at 106000 miles.... About 25000 miles since the engine has been reconditioned.
Thanks in advance

Hello, I can see this is very old thread but I am hoping you still use honest John :) My zafira is doing the exact same thing as you have described! The same noise and also my gear got stuck in reverse yesterday however I managed to get it out. What was the problem in the end? Did you get it fixed?
Ah fear not, someone will be along shortly, sometimes they've been now to use own your forum name and login, to provide a useful link with the very answer no one needed.
I've got some problems with my van again
It's been off the road for a few months now after it got the dreaded clutch rattle and a few other problems and I thought it's time to get it back on the road again. I changed the clutch, brake pads, a few various bearings, speedo sensor, brake/clutch fluid and I drained the cooling system, flushed it through and put fresh coolant back in. Took it for MOT and it flew through with an advisory on tyres lol.
A couple of days running round and not a problem until last night. It was getting a bit cold so I decided to put the heaters on, they came on hot and after a couple of minutes they started to blow cold air, the temperature gauge was bang on half way as normal and never moved, when I got home I lifted the bonnet and noticed the expansion tank was full to the top and there seemed to be a lot of pressure in the pipes. I noticed that all the pipes where hot apart from the pipes running to the expansion tank, I took the cap off the tank and it started to bubble out the tank with the pressure, the water in the tank was stone cold until the hot water bubbled up the pipes and into the tank and it settled.
I left it for a few minutes and when I went back the tank was empty, I topped the tank up and squished all the pipes, started the engine and squished the pipes some more, checked the heaters and they where blowing hot, temperature gauge in centre and all pipes where hot.
I took it out for a 20 min drive and temp gauge stayed in middle and heaters kept blowing hot but when I pulled up at home the heaters started blowing cold again. I lifted the bonnet and the expansion tank was full again, loads of pressure in system and the water in the bottle was stone cold but all pipes round engine hot.
Its not the EGR cooler cause I bypassed that months ago and its not over heating so dont think its head gasket (or I hope not)
Anyone got any ideas? could it just be a bad airlock, thermostat or water pump??

If you open the coolant bottle cap with engine running, check the small water return pipe for flow.If there is a good flow of water, then i would say the pump is ok.If there is no flow, then either the pump is at fault,or there is a blockage in the pipework or elsewhere in the cooling system.
I don't know if there is a law regarding driveway.I bought a house which got driveway on it,now my new neighboors live beside me don't have a driveway and have a big bush covering their front house .If I go out using my car,,he uses our driveway to get into their front to park his car.The annoying thing is when I got back and park my car infront of our house or our driveway. The neighboors disturb us and tell us to move our car for him to get out from their front as they don't have a driveway. Is their a law that I can complaint on this matter. Read more
OK, I have a couple of questions:
1. Is this a housing estate or a village or somewhere remote or what? Usually that will answer your question as to whether he has rights of passage. I imagine he doesn't, truth be told, but you need to find out from your deeds as has been said above....
Dear Honest John,
I believe I am being given the runaround by my Audi dealer. My 2011 A5 is burning excessive amounts of oil. Right now, it's using around 1 litre per 1500 miles and getting slowly worse. I have been into the dealer twice for warranty repairs. The first time they adjusted an "oil separation valve" and this appeared to have fixed the problem - at least, according to the results of an oil consumption test they performed. The next time I brought it in (1600 miles after the oil consumption test) they refused to do anything, saying that this level of oil comsumption was normal in Audis, especially the A5. This is not the first Audi I have had and I disagree. I also think that this level of oil comsumption is not normal in any modern 2-year-old car with only 16,400 miles on the clock.... Read more
Apparently according to Watchdog on BBC they have a piston problem so its not down to driving style its faulty components
Hi all, this quite a long story but will keep it short as possible.
I bought this vehicle from Ford direct in April 2011, Ford dealership gave the vehicle its first service before I took delivery, it has since been serviced by independent garages, the vehicle has been great til May this year when the automatic gearbox intermittently started to slip on pulling away from junctions and sometimes at high speeds as it changed up. I took the vehicle back to Ford dealership and said to them that this fault is intermittent but they said they would take a look. Ford dealership road tested and checked electrical systems but 'no faults found' was all they could tell me. I returned vehicle again a week or 2 later with same problems and they said Ford Technical told them to change gearbox oil and filter (£205.00) as it was coming up to 3 yrs old (July 16th). Vehicle taken but fault returns a couple of weeks later, go back to Ford dealership who say Ford Technical told them to do a gearbox 'software update'. Vehicle taken again but fault returns after warranty expires (July 16th). I take the car back to Ford dealership and they take another look and get back in touch with Ford Technical. I was told that the fault lies within the control unit of the gearbox but Ford have said they will not cover costs because vehicle out of warranty. Dealership says they can replace this unit for £1400 less10% 'goodwill'. The gearbox had done 19,000 miles when I first took it to them. Do I have a leg to stand on here? I have spoken to independent transmission rebuilders and they were amazed that Ford Technical didn't know about issues with these getrag gearboxes as they been replacing the control units and the dual clutch systems for some time, Dekz43.... I agree that Ford are liable, however i wouldn't be holding me breath waiting for them to deal with the problem honourably or voluntarily, you might have to be prepared to get nasty and legal to get any positive response.
My car is not yet 4yrs. old. It has done lots of long and quite a few shorter trips. Recently the AP Fault sign came up on the dash. I also lost all cruise control ability. The car stuttered to a halt. Having switched off the engine it re-started and we went on like this for several weeks, between times the Garage ran the computer management system diagnostics (if it happened when they were open and I was anywhere close by!). The car has been regularly serviced. I do not understand why this should have happened. They replaced the faulty part at a cost of over 600GDP and the fault did not disappear. Within 3 days the fault recurred. I had to pay a further 132GDP for yet another part, since when I have not had any problems, HOWEVER, I have not been using the car so much now my hushand is home following 11wks. in hospital! There has been less opportunity for any problem to resurface.
What is causing this problem please?... Read more
The anti polution filter is the diesel particulate filter, known more commonly as the DPF. Its not a servicable part, it cleans itself (regenerates) during normal use but regular short journeys can block it and make the part scrap. They have a finite life, anything over 100,000 miles of mostly motorway use is a bonus.
I think terminology is being mixed up here....
Thanks for coming back - and I assume the code worked OK.
