I want to remove the second and third rows of seats in my 4x4. It is currently classed as a 7 seater.
The seats could easily be refitted - just a few bolts each, so Is this classed as a modification for logbook and insurance purposes?... Read more
You can't get a subjective respone from an insurer, it's just a customer relations advisor and some software with a pop-up menu of modifications which when selected will recalculate the premium of just add a £15 fee for bothering them. It is unlikely to have "remove seats" in the list - it is more likely to be Spoiler>larger wheels>f*** exhaust etc...
I bought a used Golf 1.6 Mk VI Match TDI DSG on 11 plate in March 2013. It has done only 10,000 miles and has been fully serviced.
Since I have bought this Car, it has a completely random issue when I try to start it.... Read more
I have had a Mk6 2.0 GT tdi DSG since 10,000 miles and it now has 70,000 miles.
It was only serviced last week and did a 200 mile run at the weekend.. then on a short trip to a neighbouring village in -3C it stopped in the middle of the road with no warning - no warning lights - nothing. Just lost drive and then stopped....
Guys, pls help!

If you've got the slightest fuel leak, the fuel will run back to the tank and will require a lot of cranking to pull the fuel back up to the engine. Is there a priming bulb? If there is, then when the car has been stood for a while, try squeezing the priming bulb and see if it's full or empty. If it's empty, then pump it to bring the fuel up and the car should then start first turn. If this is the case, sort out the leak!
On a cold morning, I don't try to start my '06 Fiesta 1.4Tdci with a first turn... Rather, I turn the key, allow the dashboard lights to cycle, switch off, back on.... Repeat this a couple of times and then it starts right away at the first full turn....
Not sure if this should be in Technical, but as it affects a lot of models thought I'd post here... HJ has updated the car review section in brief, but thought I'd expand on it here for the benefit of all.
In short, all Toyota VVT-I 1.4, 1.6 & 1.8L engines (1zz 1.8, 3zz 1.6 & 4zz 1.4) made from 2000 to mid 2005 may suffer from excessive oil consumption of 1L/600miles. As far as I can tell, neither the smaller 1.0 & 1.3 engines, not the 2.0 & larger VVTI engines had this problem.... Read more

My 207cc (1.6 petrol VTi auto) had the same problems for months. It went it for a regas and service (used losely) and after a few months the a/c would work for a few days then cut off few a few days then come back. After taking it to the local garage to have it checked they couldn't find nothing wrong with it as the a/c was working at the time.
I sort of got fed up with this and ended up taking it to Peugeot who quickly diagnosed the fault as the thermostat housing. There is an error code that shows up P4099 or similar but this will not show up on the cars check thing on the dashboard readout....
This happened with a Peugeot Boxer -Based camper but is relevant to any turbo diesel
on the motorway last wednesday cruising at 65mph after returning from France in Boxer-based camper
everything running very smoothly.....van has 19000 miles on original engine (engine is Peugeot 2.2Litre diesel 2008).
all of a sudden engine started Missing, say 10 times, then power dropping, started to smoke out exhaust
pulled into hard shoulder
switched off engine
as soon as I switched it off engine started to runaway at absolute max revs - very black smoke
Let out the clutch in gear and stopped it after max 2-3 secs (FRIGHTENING!)
all the above happened in less than 1 minute, no warning lights showed. Towed to Garage!
in the garage:
the EGR valve is showing as coked up and stuck, diagnostics are pointing to EGR problem
2 years ago EGR was also coked up and engine mgmt lite came on.
It seems likely that the problem was caused by turbo seals weeping on inlet side causing EGR to slowly coke up( note had coked perviously), ... Read more

Hi everyone. Unfortunately I have a 2008 Citroen Relay, which uses the 2.2 Ford Transit/Mondeo engine. It is very poorly at the minute, and I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction.
When you first start it, it misfires like hell, and bellows white/light grey smoke (which has a tinge of blue to it), when I say bellows, I mean fills the street. Once warm, the misfire disappears BUT the smoking continues, sometimes it will disappear for a mile, but then return. It only smokes when you rev it today, although yesterday it was smoking no matter what.
So far, I think I can rule out the turbo, as when I disconnected the intercooler pipes, no smoke came through them and the van continued to smoke from the exhaust as normal. Also, the van doesn't appear to be using any water.
No fault codes.
There is a massive oil leak, that is dripping onto my alternator (battery light is on, although voltage is 14.2 at idle)
I feel this leaves me with 3 or 4 options, and i'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.
1- Could it be a duff injector/s overfueling? but then why the blueish tinge? The Ohms reading accross the injectors are the same, However, upon unplugging the No3 Injector (whilst the van is still misfiring) the engine tone remains unchanged. When the engines idle returns to normal (once warm) unplugging said injector makes no diference.
2- Valve seals?
3- Could the rings be drawing oil in?
4- No other symptoms of HGF, the heaters are warm, no coolant loss.
I appreciate its just guesswork for you lot, but hopefully the symptoms may correspond to something somebody else has had problems with.
The injector leak off pipes are leaking, but doubt this is causing it.
Cheers.

Hi guys. I really need some kind of guidance and advice as I have come to the end of the line with my relay. It has been the most depressing motoring experience of my life, with endless reliability issues and to what I can only guess is the local main deal and another local garage playing a guessing game at my expense.
My latest running issue is very simular to the original post, it was running well of once, then out of the blue it started running bad and to what I can only describe as what felt like an out of shape type shock the whole van. So I pulled over and could not see anything obvious so went to start it again and it really struggled to start and finally did with a big puff of black smoke. I pulled away and the shaking started again but only under load. I managed to get it home and it it died as soon as I stopped. I checked under the bonnet and there was oil ontop of injector 1 and noticed a slight bubble coming out....

Two of the most very common faults for this warm hard starting is top dead centre going open circuit when warm but when cools becomes ok. 2nd most likely is starter motor if faulty ok when cold but when warm draws too much current depriving the injectors of power Hth Regards Mickeybo
