Hi all,
I have two Peugeots, 308 and 307. 307's battery is drained due to forgotten headlight. So I am aiming to run it by jump starting from 308. However, the problem is, the negative terminal of the 308's battery is not reachable. I can reach it by removing the red thing on top of the battery but I guess the car won't start before the jump start if I do so. Here is one of the picture of the metal plate under the red cover.... Hi
Does anybody have any knowledge of what the optimal engine oil temperature is for optimal engine wear protection and also how long does one need to drive (moderate speed) to get the oil to that temperature? And is there anyone with any technical knowledge on the wear patterns in an engine from start up and over the first 10 - 20 minutes of driving?... Read more

I'm called jason, just thought I'd join this site as I experienced what is more like a nightmare to me. Since I experienced what I'd call a premature timing failure on my bmw 116i 2005. What really annoys me is the fact that I wasn't wise enough to read the cars reviews before ever buying it. I'm just 22 years old and I'd always wished to have a 1 series. I saved for like a year in order to get one for myself. I bought the car in march from a private seller, drive alright for like 3 months, took the car for MOT and it passed(delighted)this reassured me because I was sceptical about buying second handed cars.
Here's my nightmare,I woke up ready for work, started my car,it started alright but when on 1st gear,it felt like I was on the wrong gear. Then I insisted in starting it,drove it away from my drive way but the car deliberately refused to pick up. So I call the AA,diagnostics were done and was told it has to do with a timing chain failure. Never heard of this before but was told it might worth about 2k to get it fixed. So I thought of going through the bmw goodwill because its the only way I could get it fixed as I can't afford 2k atm.... Read more
Long service intervals and any oil used that is lower than BMW Longlife 04 spec will cause these engines to burn a lot of oil and dirty the Vanos solenoids which will cause poor running.
The plugs need to be changed by 60,000 miles or they also cause poor running. Although my 116 came with a full service history it had gone up to 20,000 miles between oil changes and did 80,000 miles on the original plugs. Car runs really since I serviced it myself and fitted a new cam chain tensioner at 110,000 miles just to be on the safe side. Also have had a remap to 127 bhp, I will replace the vanos solenoid o rings soon as they are visably leaking and there is a slight misfire again now....
Ok, Picked up a new fiesta last night. Lovely car, been taken good care of. One issue I have found though, only started this morning.
Very hard to get into gear and crunches when going into reverse. However, the clutch is NOT slipping at all.... Read more
if there is a fix apart from the ones already mentioned and the fix from Ford (As was told on the phone to dealership) was to take the transmission off and slap more grease in

Hi, I'm looking for a little advice. I own a Ford Focus Ghia (Y reg), and yesterday went to pull onto a roundabout and it started driving like a bag of nails. Feels like a misfire - low on power, engine not running smooth and a distinct smell of rotten eggs. I've done a bit of reading on the forums, etc, and it sounds like it could be the coil pack(?)
I've opened the bonnet and figured out where the coil pack is, and disconnected both ends of the HT leads to see if there is any obvious corrosion or bad connections, all connections look fine to my fairly inexperienced eye.... Read more
I have tested many coils that read fine on a ohmmeter, but that fail on a coil tester or on the engine. A meter reading is really only a simplistic test that doesn't recreate the real running conditions.
Buy a new coil and try it if it's only £30 a pop....
Is there any known common faults with the electrical power steering with the corsa c? My steering doesnt feel correct. It a little heavier to turn one way and lighter the other and also pulls to the right sight slightly. Someone mentioned to me there was a common fault on these steering systems but just want to find out more before i take it to a garage. Read more
Low tyre pressure?
The large ride on mowers used by local authorities to cut verges etc. Are they allowed to drive on the main road?
I saw one today that was slower than a milk float and had no indicators or lights. Just a flashing amber beacon. Surely that is not enough to allow it to trundle along a main roadway.... Read more

Good morning! I hope someone can help regarding the problem I had with my car on the way to work this morning. I was driving along, about 15 miles into my journey and, just as I was changing down a gear and decelerating to take a corner the engine stopped and the depollution system warning light illuminated. Luckily I was going slow enoung that I could stop before I hit the other side of the bend and the road was quiet.
The car is now parked up and will not start. When I turn the key the depolluton light remains illuminated and the engine turns but does not fire. However, when I press the 'check' button on my car, which should display the fault log, there are no faults present, nor does the car screm at me when you first move the ignition key.... Read more
Hi, the car has a DPF, however as it's not used around town at all (we don't have any over here!) most of my driving is rural roads and I give it a run of 40 miles each week between home and evening class, so it gets nice and hot. Also, teh warning light and message for clogged DPF has not displayed.
I, too, am leaning towards a bad connection as they fault couldn't be cleared by the side of the road, and the car wouldn't start, but after 25 minutes on he recovery truck they could clear the fault and start the car. I suspect the bouncing has made the connection. Does anyone know where these sensors are in the engine bay? I'm afraid to say I don't have a clue and the garage aren't a main dealer (nearest one 150 miles away + ferry trip)....
I want to get a set of fitted car mats for a Honda Jazz and would appreciate any feedback and reccomendations for make & supplier etc. The ones available from Honda seem expensive and the carpet pile does not look to be of very good quality Read more
For a really cheap solution, either get a colour matched piece of carpet remnant and cut/template using your current mat or do what I did the other day-buy a couple of black rubber mats and do the same thing. ...
OUr Golf failed to start about 2 weeks ago which we thought was a battery problem. Wouldn't start with jump pack so called Green Flag who diagnosed EGR valve problem but got the car started.
Taken to VW dealers for investigation a few days later - they say that the electronic memory has been wiped (how?) and they can't do anything. The car is fine at the moment but for how long? ... Read more
