Heya - my Mini One no longer starts, it just makes a clicking noise on turning the key.

I was hoping that it's just a dead battery - it is 10 years old after all - but testing with a multimeter shows it's still at 11.9V. That's a little low, but that should be enough to get the car started, right?... Read more

Took a while from ordering a replacement battery, and then the battery terminal bolt sheared off when screwing it back in (grr) , but just confirming that a fresh battery has fixed it. Thanks all

Hi, hubby has a 2008 Ford Fiesta. We have a problem whereby if the car is left for a week or more without using it then the battery is flat when we go to use it again. We've replaced the stereo (as we'd previously read it could be a problem with that) and also had a new battery and alternator fitted. The mechanic couldn't find anything wrong.

The car hasn't been used for two weeks now due to the coronavirus and when he's gone to get in it today it's flat again.... Read more

I did the same as Edlithgow on an 02 Golf 1.6. Suspect the alarm. Disconnected the negative terminal and left it as a push fit. No spanner required. Seconds to refit before use. NB Know your radio code, though mine remembered it's settings almost always.

I stopped at a red light with a camara but after a length of time I noticed a green light and went on ahead, only to realise that the green light was the next set of lights. By that time I had already gone through the last set of lights that was still on red. This is my first red light offence and I was wondering if the course would be available to me even though It was some time after the light turned red? I've been driving for 2 years at the end of this month and also did a speed awareness course last year around the same month.

Edit: this happend three days ago in my work van which is hired. Read more

I have a 2015 Peugeot 308 1.2 PureTech e-THP Allure Hatchback Semi Automatic.(25401 miles on clock). Car had oil leak last Aug 2019 and has been driving well since. On Tues was going to work and after driving only 5 mins the engine warning sign came up to together with Service sign. Manage to get back home as I was only round the corner contacted RAC who check car over and reported the following: Engine start fine but with EMS light on. Engine oil and coolant levels checked - OK. Plugged into Rac-Scan to draw fault/trouble codes. UNABLE TO COMUNICATE WITH VEHICLE SPECIFICS BUT COULD DRAW FAULTS THROUGH EOBD. UNABLE TO CLEAR CODES.PROCESS DENIED. HAVE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR 10 MINUTES.STILL UNABLE TO CLEAR CODES.SUSPECT BSI NEEDS SOFTWARE UPDATE. RAC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. System Type: ENGINE. Name: EOBD. DTC: P1336, , Manufacturer controlled DT

He recommended that I took to dealer which I did. The in-car computer continue to display an ‘Engine Fault’ warning message when I started it up, which obviously worried me, but I did not notice any change in performance or noise from the engine. The car even was coping with standard motorway speeds without me noticing any degradation in performance.
The technician finally had a look at it yesterday and told me that its problem with the valve (might need cleaning) which is causing issue with the ECU. They contacted warranty and was told that this is not enough and they need to give more details of the issue. Now they have asked me to authorise £300 of diagnostic test (2 hrs labour to strip the engine) and have a look. Has anyone come across this plz? If valve need cleaning is this covered by warranty coz if its not I will have to pay more on top of the £300 and I'm in no position to afford this. In this unprecedented climate I'm the only one working. I'm already stress with work as I'm a front line nurse and now this. I'm very worried. Car has had regular service. Sparks plugs were changed 2 yrs. ago.

Any help/advise/suggestions will be very much appreciated... Read more

Assuming any software service updates have been applied, the only work-arounds for a generic LSPI problem available to the consumer would seem to be using a higher octane fuel and a LSPI-resistant oil (Dexos 1 Gen 2, API SNplus, ILSAC GF-6, API SP in rough order of introduction,).

The Epc or engine malfunction light, covers a multitude of different faults recognised by the engine control unit . Without suitable diagnostic kit, there is no way of finding out what fault has been logged. If it's running ok now ,just keep an eye on it . Was it low on fuel?

Our new car has a stop/start facility, something we've never had before.

From what I've read, most people seem to say that unless the battery is at 100% this can be more trouble than it's worth. Is this true?... Read more

But the ZS made quite a good impression when you first got it, ORB, not least because you told us you got a very good deal. Let's hope that CrownCD's proves more reliable.

Like Adam, for me living in a rural area start/stop is just an irritation, and I turn it off as soon as I start the engine. But it's good to have it there, in case one gets stuck in a serious traffic jam. Unless your daily drive regularly includes such jams, I doubt whether start/stop gives any appreciable fuel savings....

Been offered a 2004 V70 with the 5cylinder Diesel engine and semi automatic gearbox by a friend.

As much as I do like old Volvo estates, there’s just something about them. They’re comfortable, safe and classless but on a limited budget I’d rather have something like this. Already told a work colleague to call about it. www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/toyota-aven...l

Work colleague went to view this and bought it without hesitation at £3800. It’s apparently immaculate inside and out. Another excellent used buy and hopefully much more reliable than the daft SUV’s he insisted on before he finally started to listen to me.
