Question is in the title. At the moment it would be very easy to get my wife's car mot'd. The mot runs out at the end of May. The way things are going nobody can say what the situation will be by then. When I look on line I simply find references stating that you can mot up to 28 days early but I wonder if this is simply to preserve the expiry date. Read more

No. On the last one it tells you the earliest you can put it in for a new one.

To reiterate - it's been explained above - you can have an MoT whenever you like. The 'earliest date' on the certificate shows the month's grace which allows you to keep the anniversary unchanged. Otherwise it moves earlier.

I am possibly/maybe contemplating a new Duster Essential 100 tce with the new 100bhp/160 nm engine.

A test drive on local (rural w. Wales) road was OK - nothing startling but OK, which is about all I need nowadays. (My current Baleno also has about the same power 100/160 but weighs less than 1 tonne and is a bit of a pocket rocket).... Read more

Many thanks again for the responses and useful points to consider.

I'm a bit in limbo at the moment with the rejection stuff going on. LBG are not being shall we say 'dynamic' but there's less than three weeks left of the Ombudsman's eight week limit to resolve the issue. I may need to find a replacement fairly quickly....

Disgusted at Daya

Bought 3 months ago 67 plate, 12k miles.
Loss of power on and off with no pattern to it (revs don’t drop and feels like intelligent braking cutting in) alarm gone off 9 times in a week. Start/stop only works properly for a while both times it has left Nissan garage - for a few days then works only roughly once a week.

Has been into Nissan twice, all they have done is plug it in and drive it 10 miles...nothing else.
It is registering no error codes at all - not past or present. Apparently it should register in it’s history each time the alarm goes off including the date but not even that is happening. So basically the car thinks nothing is wrong with it.

Nissan Garage already saying they may not be able to fix it. Everything I suggest like fuel pressure ECU etc they just dismiss, yet can give me no idea at all as to what is wrong - not even suggest when asked. They did try banging on about the DPF (told them no at the time) and low and behold it was not that.

Called into local garage on the way home and they plugged it in and flagged it two error codes, but Nissan aren’t really taking any notice of that.

Have said they need it in for a prolonged time to replicate fault, what so they can feel that it feels like the intelligent braking is cutting in when not meant to. I can’t see what use that is if still not registering any fault codes and did not offer me a loan car for that time (under warranty) until I asked for one - they told me in 2 weeks. I’m not prepared to drive a car loosing power out of the blue like that for two weeks! What if it does it whilst over taking or pulling out of a busy junction? It’s dangerous! Especially when I have grandchildren in my car which is daily.

If those 3 things are happening, it all points to multiple electrical faults??? In which case why are they not considering ECU?

Any ideas most welcomed thank you. Read more

You need to be very careful of disconnecting the battery without letting the car shut down this can take up to 40 mins if it is done to early it can cause the ECU to fail. Is the vehicle a Diesel or Petrol ? and what engine is it.

It used to be the case and maybe still is that a plant hire company will also provide a fuel bowser on hire. A small towable one holds about 200 litres or even a bunded tank dropped on site. If I had a digger for a week I would plan my site work and work it hard to get the best value. Using it for a week would easily consume 100 litres plus if it is worked. Pity to hire for a week and only use it for a few days.

Car was going in tomorrow for MOT, due mid April, garage called yesterday and are shutting down for the duration.

A question for owners of modern Diesels, if that is the only car you have how are you going to keep the DPF happy if all the present journeys are shortish hops, as the govt ramps up the crashing of the economy, sorry, shutdown, the old bill will be relishing their new found authority over normally law abiding people, so if stopped is driving nowhere to clear the DPF allowed?...

There's nothing to stop you running the engine for 10 minutes or so on your drive or garage with the garage door open once a week. If you can, move the car forward or backwards a little so the tyres dont flatspot.

Hi thanks as per my update I fixed the issue after trying fragrances/antibacs and Ozone. The fix was done using a chlorine type product Airvidox which another bloke mentioned too after my post. May be a sledgehammer to crack a nut for some smells but it is powerful stuff and the only thing that worked and has lasted the longest thus far.

Colleague at work told me of her father's woe with a 5 year old (but only 30k mile) Grand Picasso that has suffered total engine failure (cracked block?) which started with a seemingly impossible to diagnose coolant loss.

Just to add to this thread. There appears to be a problem that's beginning to manifest itself with the cambelts running in oil. Today I finally got to the bottom of this on the 308 Facebook page. A Peugeot technician stated that the engine has been subject to three cambelt revisions. Gen1 is a smooth black belt that degrades and cracks across the width throughout the whole belt. Gen2 revision has a textured finish and would have been fine had it not been for the fact that it is slightly wide therefore causing it to fray at the sides with debris blocking the oilways. The engine is currently being fitted with a Gen3 belt with no known problems yet. The technician implied that PSA know about this and are changing them under warranty or possibly contributing to the cost out of warranty.
