I had a problem with my zafira clutch pedal sticking to floor and me then needing to manually pull it back up and then it runs right as rain.... Read more
Hiya everyone, I’m really in need of some advice before it drives me and my fella totally bonkers!! (It’s a long one, so bare with me!)
My fella has a 2016 (65 plate) Peugeot 308 1.2 puretech 130 allure auto, which he has had on finance from Arnold Clark for almost 12 months. When he got it, it had done a little over 17,000 miles and is now just under 30,000. Within 3 months of him having the car in May 2019 it encountered a fault which ended in him having the spark plugs changed (no biggie) and it then drove with no real issues until around September 2019.... Just to add to this thread. There appears to be a problem that's beginning to manifest itself with the cambelts running in oil. Today I finally got to the bottom of this on the 308 Facebook page. A Peugeot technician stated that the engine has been subject to three cambelt revisions. Gen1 is a smooth black belt that degrades and cracks across the width throughout the whole belt. Gen2 revision has a textured finish and would have been fine had it not been for the fact that it is slightly wide therefore causing it to fray at the sides with debris blocking the oilways. The engine is currently being fitted with a Gen3 belt with no known problems yet. The technician implied that PSA know about this and are changing them under warranty or possibly contributing to the cost out of warranty.
Just bought a used car which passed its mot with flying colours, but have noticed a knocking/rattling noise coming from the front end, it’s mainly when driving at 40-50 mph and taking foot off accelerator that I hear it although sometimes when braking too. I took the car back to garage where their mechanics put it up on ramps and couldn’t find any issues but I said it’s when the car is being driven that it occurs so I’ve to take it in tomorrow and leave with them. I just wanted to see if anyone had heard this noise before or any idea what it is as the garage are saying ‘it’s maybe because it’s cold or because I’ve went from a petrol to a diesel’ I just want to be prepared and throw some suggestions at them what it could be. Below is a YouTube link to the noise as I don’t think I can upload a video here.

Any recommendations for a spare wheel kit for my wife's 2019 Ford fiesta. The car only has a compressor and a tin of goo!!
I may be old fashioned but I would just like her to have a spare wheel.... Read more
Thanks ORB. They look just the business and needless to say their costs are a lot less than Mr Ford :-)
Hope it goes well with your Sportage...
Hi all
do you have to take wheel off to access the vauxhall astra windscreen washer pump ?... Read more
just a quick update
it was the pipe inbetween the bottle/pump to the actual windscreen jets...
I have a water leak in the cabin front nearside that I cannot trace no air con fitted to this car. Any ideas? Read more
I appreciate this thread is a couple of years old but thanks to you and Gibbo_Wirral for suggesting the drain points in the scuttle panel.
Had water in both front foot wells which was caused by both drains in the scuttle panel being blocked with leaves and debris. Easy to spot if you look up above the engine underneath the scuttle panel.
I am thinking on buying a IS200 Diesel 2011 model
I know the earlier IS220D gave a whole host of problems in terms of reliability, but I do not see much online for the later IS200D model... Read more
No direct experience and few will as they didn’t sell well but as it is basically a detuned version of the same 2.2 motor that caused a lot of trouble in the older IS220 I’d personally leave it be. I’ve seen the earlier cars smoking badly and being offloaded to auction. It’s known as a weak engine in the trade and attracts few buyers.
The 2.2's issues had been resolved by 2011 (actually 2009 iirc). It will be an EU5 for emissions if you have to enter any LEZ/ULEZs in the future.
That being said I am not a proponent of anybody running a modern, emission-equipped turbodiesel from any manufacturer out of warranty unless they are able to take the possible hit of any of the issues that can be common to any of those e.g. DMF/DPF/injectors etc. etc.
Hi folks,
I'm currently driving a MK3 2009 Honda CR-V CDTI, with 110K and experiencing an intermittent crank /no start problem.
Most of the time, the engine starts normally, but occasionally, the car will not start up until I switch off the car and switch on again, it is then guaranteed to start. This is the process in which everything happens (always in this order)...
- Insert Key
- Turn key position to I, then II
- Warning lights fail to display the glow plug, oil, ABS, PGM-FI warning lights during the pre-ignition sequence
- Turn key from position II to III, car cranks, but no start
- Return key to position 0 (all electrics off)
- Turn key position to I, then II
- All dashboard light showing normal
- Turn key from position II to III, car starts correctly
- But now Drivers Airbag warning light (red) is constantly showing (I can drive any distance and it stays on, if I switch off and on again, the light switches off)
it is not an immobiliser issue, as there is no green key flashing light. during the crank.
That sequence happens about 1-2 times a week, in that specific order.
I’ve noticed that this often happens with a warm engine, but only if I leave the engine off for a 5 mins or so. If I’ve driven the car, so the engine is hot, switch off and on again, the car starts up no problem, but if I wait a few mins, the issue appears.
I don’t think it’d be the battery as the crank is strong, likewise all electrics fine except these few pre ignition lights.
I’m suspecting relay, sensor, or main ECU? I was hoping someone might know more about the electronics surrounding the ignition system. my current suspicion is the main relay, but I’m just guessing.
the culprit seems to be not switching on All the PGM-FI, glow plugs, Fuel Filter, ABS lights, etc. Which are all part of the initial pre ignition checks. It’s not just one light that’s causing a no start, it’s all of them, so I’m currently ruling out things like a battery, fuel pump etc. the issue seems to be more of a “core” component.
It's baffled me what might cause this, especially as its intermittent and the fact that turning the ignition off fixes it, but then causes the airbag light fault and always in that particular order.... Read more
Fixed it with a refurbished ECU (with the data copied from the old ECU) and it only cost £180 which was much cheaper than I’d expected.

Hi all. Im looking to get an estate car, and i like my fords so I'm thinking focus or mondeo.T he bigger the boot the better. Looking at the specs on autotrader, it says that that the latest focus estate has a bigger boot (575 litres) than the mondeo (525 litres). Also according to autotrader, the mondeo hatchback has a slightly bigger boot than the estate(541 litres). Does anyone know if these stats are correct? Or can anyone that's had these cars can advise on which is the better option ?

Indeed - a primary rule of car buying is to think 'what do I need the car to do?' In my case, as well as being enjoyable to drive, my car needs to have a flat, or near-flat, floor in the back wit the seats down, so that I can push my full-size music keyboard in without there being a 'step'.
My Q2 passes the test easily, and I should think that both Fords mentioned would do so too - the Mondeo simply being bigger than the Focus. The Kuga would also be worth a look: a new model is imminent so there should be good deals on the current one.
Sorry to post again so soon. I’ll
Admit I’m clueless with cars so
I could be told any price and if I can afford it I’d pay it.
I have been quoted £499 for a reverse camera and £300 for parking sensors on my Audi a1 sport. One of my brothers who is really in to cars said that’s too expensive and the other one who
Knows nothing but has nice cars said “it’s good that”
Does anyone have an idea what I should be being quoted for this?

I prefer camera to sensors.
My previous car had a reversing camera, lens never got dirty / mucky, I could back up to an inch away from something behind the car with confidence. Present car has sensors, they bleep and that's about all. Fortunately there is a little graphic on the on-board display that shows an image of the car and a yellow line that turns red as I get nearer whatever is behind me .. better than nothing.
