At what thickness should 2002 Toyota Corolla brake discs be replaced?
One dealer says 23mm another says 20mm hence confusion!

23mm sounds the more likely for a Toyota. The handbook, or a Haynes manual should say though.

bhoy wonder

I have been offered a very nice deal off a VW dealership(Family owned) over £1500 off the asking off a passat. The only thing that I am worried about is the fact when I did a HPI check it had outstanding finance owed to VW finance. The dealership advised me that it was there finance as they had been at a closed VW aution and purchased 10 cars. They advised me that once I had paid then the finance would be paid off.

The dealer also advised that this would have been explained to me
if I had purchase the car as all cars get HPI checked under there agreement with VW.

Does this sound about wright or should I be worried? Read more

Happy Blue!

Yes it would certainly help. But better instead get then to pay off the finance simultaneously with your purchase and do not accept the car until it is clear.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

I have a salvage Rover mini that was written off Cat D earlier this year.

It's about to go in for repairs, but despite trawling through the DVLA's website I cannot find what the procedure is to re register it. As a Cat D it doesn't require a VIC, but does it still need to be inspected by the DVLA local office ? Or can I just apply for another V5 ?

I'll be very grateful if anyone knows the answer ! Read more

The car was mine to start with, and the insurers insisted I send them the V5.

Good news that it's just an MOT and new V5 though.

Well went to see an Escort 1.6i Zetec GLX last night. Went for a drive, very smooth, no odd noises/knocks/whines etc. Clean engine, no white gunk in the oil filler cap, good bodywork. Pretty decent car by all odds, except for the temperature gauge didn't appear to work (moved very slightly, but stayed at below the scale). Guy said it does work but takes time, not sure about this. Checked all other usuals (lights, emissions, brakes, gears etc), but the gauge is bugging me a bit.

Gut feeling is to go with it, as overall and for the price it seems pretty good. Going to do an HPI check on it, but anyone any thoughts on this?

Details : P reg, 78000 miles. No Service History unfortunately.

I suppose there is a slight chance that the thermostat is duff? If so take a good look at the one that comes out to see if it is rated at 88C or 92C. Ford seem only to supply 92C now, this temp. made my Mondeo run over half-way on the temp. scale, so I purchased an 88C from Halfords that works ok. Looking at the one I had removed revealed it was an 88C.
Good luck.
