Yesterday, as I accelerated up a slip road, all power was lost/dropped off. Engine did not stall/cut out, but nothing happening when pressing throttle. Pulled onto hard shoulder and switched off. Restarted and all was OK!!!! Tried lots to get it to do it again (hard acceleration, etc) but now seems OK. Did have a few odd instances of what seemed like a "miss" a few weeks ago, but that was it. Anyone got any idea what this could have been? Should I get checked out by dealer? Thanx Read more

I have received 2 parking tickets today for a car that I was selling around a month and a half ago. I was nowhere near Westminster when these violations took place (both within an hour and by the same warden! Suspicious).

I can only assume that:

1) My car was cloned from the selling details (Autotrader/E-bay) or
2) A crooked traffic warden saw the details and wants to up his stats.

Further, before I sold it I was sent a letter by the milage verification people! They said it was a mistake, but there are too many coincidences!

I also had a very keen viewer who wanted all sorts of details including the V5 document number for a HPI check. I thought this was suspiscious, but checked with HPI and they said that they can sometimes ask for it! Anyway, the buyer never called again after the supposed check (I bought the car new and never crashed it etc)

Any advice?

We had a grey Sierra cloned about 15 years ago - first we knew was when we saw the police examining the car on the drive - turns out a grey sierra with our number had been used in a robbery about 200 miles away.

Car had never been advertised for sale so you cannot avoid it!

From ITV F1:

This weekend?s French Grand Prix could be disrupted by protesters closing in on the Magny-Cours circuit and threatening to cause traffic chaos.

A march led by regular activist Francois Schneider and his donkey Jujube is reported to be only a few miles from the circuit.

The protesters are calling for the cancellation of the race, which they regard as an orgy of consumerist decadence.

?The French Formula 1 Grand Prix is a paroxysm of pollution and the wasting of natural resources,? the organisation said on its website.

?We want the end of this anachronistic leisure activity reserved for a score of spoilt rich brats.?

The non-violent march set off from Lyons with 130 people on June 7 and has been covering 10 miles per day. It will go to Nevers tonight and tomorrow will head south on the main road to the track.

The protest is apparently being supported by veteran anti-globalisation campaigner and eco-warrior Jose Bove, who famously trashed a McDonald?s restaurant in Millau in 1999 on the grounds that ?eating is not a neutral act?.

The French GP has been threatened by protests before. The first race held at Magny-Cours in 1991 was hit by a lorry drivers? blockade but the race went ahead despite considerable disruption to traffic.

How are diesels or any other engines, afflicted by "poor flow intake systems"? I've always wanted to know.

As the previous poster commented, diesel engines are run at an excess of air. More air flow would do nothing for the power output. Thats if (a big if!) a filter and intake system could achieve such more air flow without compromising its primary filtration purpose. I once enquired of K&N about proof of its efficiency claims. There was no hard information from their office, so I assumed that it was just a claim without substance. With the added risk of the filter grease getting onto the MAF.

Just noticed that prices near where I live (South Devon) have finally crept above 91p a litre for diesel, even at supermarket stations. I'm accustomed to our prices being roughly 3p/litre cheaper than elsewhere in the country.

What price are you paying for petrol / diesel? Read more

Earlier today i paid 87.9 for diesel @ Shell on Cobridge Road Stoke on Trent. Think U/L was about 3p a litre cheaper.

This place is consistantly about 2p a litre cheaper than local supermarkets.

Hi there.

i'm after some swift advice. I'm going for a 2nd test drive of the above car tommorrow and after being most unhappy with the build and drive of my vectra C.

the leon in 03 with 13k and its the 1.8 20v SE

all the bits and bob's (cassette player like)

my reasons for changing are the bouncey ride of the vectra horrible gear box, and no feel and slightly lacking performance (1.8) for the weight of the car.

So anyone owned the above leon, i have been told to watch out for rattles, which i'll listen too tommorrow.

I know theres a new leon just coming out so i thought £7000 was ok price.

thanks in advance. Read more

The brake lights on my 04 Arosa come on by themselves, usually at night, this morning I came to start the car a the battery was flat, my wife told me they were on when she went to work. I have looked at the brake light switch and give it a squirt of WD40. Anybody any other ideas? Read more

My father had this problem on his Rover 600. It turned out to be a faulty switch for the brake pedal.

Hi

I've just noticed that the new tyre I got from KwikFit has a slow puncture in it. Anyway, I've now fitted the spare to take me home 50 miles but I'm not sure how old it is. It's a Dunlop SP6 with a DOT date code of 019, which is the 1st week in the 9th year. Question is, is this 1999; or when the car was built, 1989?

If anyone knows when Dunlop stopped producing this tyre it would be much appreciated.

I am looking for a driving instructor for my daughter. I have spoken to three, but the last one tells me that he is graded as being a level 5.5 on a scale of 1 to 6 presumably by the driving instructing test school. Also that he is "Gold advanced".

I just wondered, are driving instructors graded like this, or is he casting his bait for the gullible?

I would be surprised if any examiner were to recommend an instructor to anyone who phoned the test centre. It would be viewed as a very serious disciplinary offence by the DSA, and probably result in him losing his job.

My brother in law is having a long battle with Renault UK over intrusive wind noise.
The car has been assessed by a Renault engineer as indeed having audible wind noise from the drivers door- but 'they all do that sir' basically.
Other Clios have been driven and are much quieter.
Renault refuse to sort the problem .
Anyone else suffered this , which I guess applies to all current 3 door Clios?
