BrokenBerlingo

Any Citroen experts out there?

I bought a Berlingo Diesel on a 51 plate at the tail end of last year. It has the 1.9 DW8 engine with electronic engine management (Non HDI) and has done around 30,000 miles. I bought it because of the supposed reliability of PSA diesel engines..

Earlier this year it broke down with all the symptoms of a failed injector (Very rattly, lack of power and smoke).

A diesel injection specialist replaced one of the injectors but it broke down a few days later. Another injector was replaced but it broke down again. A few days later another breakdown and the garage replaced the final two injectors.

The car ran OK for a month or so before breaking down with the same symptoms. However, this time the fault cleared itself after being turned off and allowed to "rest". The car was taken to a main dealer who interrogated the ECU and found that a "Lift sensor failure" had been recorded. They replaced the Lift sensor and also the engine speed sensor and cleared the fault code from the ECU.

The car has since failed a further three times with the same syptoms! I'm waiting for a call back to see when the garage will be able to look at the car again.

Normally, the engine runs very well but the power from the engine feels very "bouncy" at around 2000 rpm (But only when moving)...I'd always put this down to a soft engine mounting and am unconcerned but could this be related?

I'm obviously getting very frustrated at this now! Are there any Citroen experts out there with any ideas as to what this could be? ECU? Fuel pump? Dodgy wiring/connectors? Sensors?

If anyone works for Citroen I'd be most grateful if you could check and see whether this is a known problem and what the solution is!

audi80tdi

Hi all,

Recently bought an Audi 80 TDi M reg with 94000 miles on the clock. The mileage seemed genuine as the car did not have the typical stone chpis on bonnet etc associated with high mileage cars. I bought the car from a Lady who said she had got it on a px for her car frm a local garage it just one month before and she did not really like it. She said there was no service history with the car but the garage she bought it from were chasing it up. All I got was an Mot certificate. She bought the car on 11 November 2004, and the MOT certificate was valid from 18 November 2004 so i assume she must have MOT's the car. I have phoned the garage on a number of occasions and have basically been fobbed of saying they chasing it up.
Last week I phoned Audi UK who checked their databvase and told me that the car had been serviced by them five times, the last being in October 1999 at a mileage of 102000!!!!!.
So almost six years later the car is showing lesser miles!!!!!!!
I payed good money for the car and feel cheated.
Is there anything i could do and who do you think is responsible for this?

Any info would help as this incident is really driving me mad.

Sorry to hear your bad news Audi80.

Sadly it really is 'Buyer Beware' when it comes to cars and if this is something that you were really concerned aboutyou really should have looked into it further before handing over the cash. It sounds like you knew a little about what to look for so why didn't you phone the garage or Audi first?

A few years ago the Speedo packed up on my old Capri (I know, I know......) and I got a replacement from a scrap dealer that had lower mileage. I informed the next owner but realistically would they when selling on again deliberately inform a potential purchaser that the car had much higher mileage? I would not expect them to as that is just not realistic.

I agree with The Artful Dodger, get the car checked for safety.

If you feel the car was worth £1,700 then accept it and move on. Life is too short to get wound up with spending hours and hours of time to recoup what exactly?

If you were a little old lady who knew nothing about cars I would get very angry on her behalf but really, come on.........

In a recent Technical Service Bulletin from Ford (who have been using Calcium Silver since 1997 as OE), they have stated that due to the Smart Changing System (SCS) fitted to its vehicles ONLY Calcium Silver batteries can be used.

Fitting anything other than Calcium Silver could result in a severely shortened service life, increased warranty claims and could even cause explosions.

The following Ford models must ONLY be fitted with Calcium Silver batteries as stipulated by Ford Motor Company Ltd.

Model..... From
Mondeo.. June '98
Cougar.. June '98
Puma.... January '99
Transit. January '99
Escort.. January '99
Fiesta.. January '99
Ka....... January '99
Foc...... January '99
Fusion.. September '02

If I had not read the above, I would just buy a regular off the shelf battery to replace my existing one.
I guess I might need a new battery charger too.
Can anyone expand of the above info?
I called several motor factors and was not impressed with the replies to " Do you stock or can you get a Calcium Silver battery?"
I guess I will call GSF as they stock Bosch.

Today I am in the market for a Yaris battery as it just died with no warning. Halfords list only one battery for ALL models, all years of Yaris. My Toyota dealer was far from brilliant when I asked how much I was asked for the registration. I got a vague ...about £xx. I was not impressed. Do they have a variety of possible batteries?

Chatting with my wife earlier this week we were talking about all our old cars / motorbikes.

I remember all the registrations (15 cars / bikes in my case! and I'm only 34!).

Is there any way of tracing whether they are still on the roads using the reg numbers or is everything so private that it is untraceable?

I am not nessasarily looking to trace owners I am just curious to see if the cars and bikes are still alive.

Having said that I know a few are dead as I drove them to the scrap yard...........You used to get £25 for them then!

Sorry, non-motoring, but petrol engine content.

I've just aquired a two-stroke petrol strimmer, no manual or stuff but I've found it should run on 40:1 two stroke fully synthetic oil.
Is there anything to stop me using fully synth normal car oil - I've got half a container of Halfords stuff left over from the last car oil change.
cheers

I'd stick with two-stroke oil, is it worth risking a huge repair bill for the sake of a few quid?

Hello all,

3 weeks ago my car was hit by an unscrupulous Fiesta driver who then decided to drive off.

I have since paid £350 to replace a steering rod and realign the wheels and ~ £250 is pending to fix the bodywork.

I reported this to the Police and my insurance company immediately, but things have not progressed since. How long does this normally take and can my insurance company try and sort this out independently of the Police or are they the limiting factor?

Thanks,

Rob. Read more

I have wondered what would have happened if I collided with the other car instead of trying to avoid it and hitting the central reservation wall. As this accident happened at around 85mph I feel that there would have been two vehicles spinning across four lanes of traffic instead of just my car. As for worrying about my NCB (protected) or possible damage to my vehicle - this was the last thing going through my mind at the time - the main thought being ' Hope that I get out of this in one piece '. Written on the computer screen your advice seems plausible and correct but during the actual event it is much more difficult to follow.

I own a nearly three year old Golf TDi 130 with 17,500 miles on the clock. It has been serviced twice and the next service is officially due at the end of May or at 20,000 miles. Two weeks ago the service indicator in the car came on - only 7,000 miles (10 months) after the last service. Having spoken to a service manager at VW he said that this was premature (obviously) and that the car couldn't be serviced until end of May or at 20,000 miles (as I have a service agreement with VW). Have any other Golf TDi owners had a similar experience with the on-board service indicator coming on after such a short interval between services? I am all for oil changes at 5-6,000 miles but am concerned that there may be something wrong with my car as the indicator has come on early. Read more

Hello seatboy,

Is your toledo a series I, II or III?

Perhaps we should open another thread relating to SEAT. I may be observing similar problems.

Nomag

Just booked my Seat Toledo TDi in for its 20,000 service with the dealer. Was informed when booking in that it "requires" a brake fluid change at 2 years old, and did sir want this doing at the same time as the service (the car will be 2 years old in June). Price quoted is £41 (for the fluid change, that is!).
Just wondering what your opinions were on this - is it regarded as essential in terms of maintaining warranty or is it optional? When do others change their brake fluid?
Thanks

VW dealers recommend bi-ennial changes too.
Just had mine done, for the second time, on our four year old Skoda Fabia tdi (VW & Skoda same franchise & workshops in Marbella). Cost was 35,28 Euros (about £24) Mind you their hourly labour rate is fairly high for here at 36,00 Euros, (about £24.50)It was cheaper when they had a dedicated Skoda workshop!

Morning all,

The car is running fine except for a slight handbrake problem. The handbrake won't hold the car on anything but the gentlest gradient and even then I don't trust it. It's not as bad when parked as I always have and always will leave it in gear but I negotiate a lot of traffic lights on hills and I hate leaving the brakes on.

In my old Fiesta I simply pulled the handbrake sleeve up and tightened a little nut but I'm sure you don't do that here.

Does anyone have any ideas? One other note to consider is sometimes, if I stop and keep my foot on the brake then pull the handbrake up, the brake pedal will go in a touch more without any extra pressure? Is that related in some way?

Many thanks as always,

Thanks Charles - very useful information to have.

I've saved that into a Word document should I ever need it in a hurry.

Thanks again - much appreciated.
