does anyone have experience of how long this temporary tyre gunking lasts?
The nail is about an inch from the wall of teh tyre so is unrepairable in the usual way (so Im told). I do have a can of tyreweld knocking about though and was wondering if this would be any use for a repair.
the car is destined for scrap in a year or so and I'm not keen on spending too much money but if the tyre would last 12 months I'd be happy

Has anyone used this product before or can recommend something else.
My gearbox on a 306 xtdt '94, having covered 100k is a little 'stiff', especially when cold. I intend to change the transmission oil and at the same time use an additive.
Any advice appreciated.

That's quite interesting from oilman. Many thanks for all of the replies.
I think my box could definately benefit from the oil change and i'll see if it makes any difference.

Hi all,
Topped up with 200ml of water, now just under max mark. However went to top up with antifreeze but noticed its a differant colour! Its a purple colour and the stuff in the tank is orange. The antifreeze I got is in a black bottle and is called Super Premium or something, the standard code on the bottle matches the Ford manual and Haynes but was surprised its not Orange. Got it from the dealer yesterday after asking for Super 2000.
Thanks.

Spec is same but bottle, label and colour is not!
Any suggestions for an effective adhesive to do this?. I tried a sticky pad one from Halfords and while it did hold the mirror to the windscreen, it wobbled far too much. I checked a few other adhesive products at B&Q that were not car specific, but after reading the package further they stated that they were not recommended for car rearview mirrors, despite claiming to be effective on glass, so I didn't bother buying.

Chewing gum?
Havn't tried it, but if I had this problem I probably would.....
Just bought a Ford Fiesta (2004) & it has the 4500CD/Radio fitted, the one that's completely integrated into the dash. Unfortunately the garage I bought the car from didn't have the "keycode".
Does anyone know where the "serial number" is located on the CD unit as I need it to get the keycode from Ford --- hoping to not have to remove the complete dashboard to find it !!!
thanks in advance

FILTER FACTORY TO CLOSE
Nottingham Evening Post
12:00 - 20 January 2005
Up to 270 jobs are to go at a Nottingham firm founded 50 years ago as Crosland Filters.
Sogefi Filtration UK is to close its automotive filter factory at Glaisdale Drive this year.
Operations will be gradually run down, said manager David Kelly.
The company, which makes 11 million filters a year for vehicle engines, is now Italian-owned.
Production will be transferred to plants in South Wales, France and Italy.
Mr Kelly described the closure as "a tragedy".
He said there were a number of pressures on the industry which led to the decision.
Engines and filters were made so precisely that they lasted for between 15,000 miles and 20,000 miles, instead of the historic 4,000 to 5,000 miles.
The company also faced competition from cheaper filters made in the Far East which can be bought in motor accessory stores.
Mr Kelly said: "Technology and economics are catching up with us - we are in a multi-part squeeze.
"Today modern engines are made to a degree of precision hitherto unthought of. The engines last longer and need fewer filters.
"People such as ourselves have been forced by engine builders and commercial pressures to improve materials and processes so that filters are far more efficient than 15 or 20 years ago. They don't need changing so frequently."
Mr Kelly added that the company was doing everything it could to help staff by bringing in external consultants who would advise and help draft job applications.
He said Sogefi, which has a turnover in the UK of £75m, faced similar problems in France and Italy.
Mr Kelly added: "We are now in talks with our employees.
"We have a very constructive relationship with staff. It is an excellent workforce and this is a great tragedy."
Crosland Filters, founded in Nottingham in 1955 by Jack Crosland and Tommy Shields, became one of the country's leading filter manufacturers.
In 1988, it was taken over by French-owned Precision Mecanique Labinal and was subsequently acquired by Sogefi.

TBH I didn't buy it, it came 'free' with the 507 oil I ordered, I have a Mann filter on the shelf which I will use to save my insanity!
Thanks for the heads up!
Car is a W reg Seat Leon TDI SE
Sometimes (usually more often than not) when I press the lock button on the driver door panel all the doors lock (as they're supposed to), but then almost immediately after, the passenger door lock pops back up.
I also have a problem locking externally use the remote, when I press the lock button its supposed to lock all doors (and boot), then flash the indicators as a sign of success. Sometimes it locks the doors but the lights don't flash (the passenger door IS locked unlike when locking from the inside), if I press again nothing happens but I can hear a noise in the passenger door, press once more and the lights flash.
The SEAT dealer say its a problem with the passenger door lock actuator (sounds fair) "sensing a mislock" and therefore popping the lock back up. Their solution is to replace the actuator for upward of £150.
Are there any alternatives to this? If I do need to get it done, should I stick with the SEAT dealer or try to find a cheaper deal elsewhere (if so where?). How much hassle is it to get the door trim off and have a look myself? Read more

All describe the exact problem I'm suffering, clearly its a fairly common problem for VAG cars of this age.
Unfortunately the only post that offered some advice on how you might be able to fix it was this one:
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=14073&...f
"All it will be is a loose connection to the passenger door lock solenoid.
The door opening and closing pulls the wiring loom next to the hinge end of the door.
Pull back the black rubber tubing from the door. Feel about inside for the thick power cable and get someone to operate the master lock on the drivers door for you.
Problem usually clears just by manoevring the wires but in bad cases there may be a break in the wire which needs the panel off to relocate and rejoin."
That doesn't seem quite right though, surely the door wouldn't lock at all if there was a problem with the solenoid?
Ah well, I'll give it a go and see how I get on.
One of my offspring is now 14 and fancies having a serious go at learning to drive (legally!).
When I was a youngster you could have a go in a supermarket carpark on a Sunday. They're all open 24/7 now though!
Any ideas of where I could take him in the Midlands? (Warwicks, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbys).
Ideally an unused airfield would be the place. Don't want one of those 'driving experiences' - £100 for 30mins behind the wheel! Read more
The OP was around eight years ago and from a member who (regretably given his extensive knowledge) stopped posting here.
Does anyone have an idea why my 2000 ford focus 1.8 zetecs airbag warning light has came on.
It comes on when the key is turned on then goes off for a few seconds then it goes on and stays on all the time.
The first time it came on was one cold morning when i got in the car and put the front and rear screen heaters on mite be just a coincidence not sure.

Get it to the dealers, ASAP !. I've heard of a couple of instances of airbag lights coming on or flashing and later on airbags going off whilst driving along. Airbag systems are very sensitive to voltage fluctuations and can be triggered by something as simple as a poor connection. I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of an inflated airbag whilst driving along the motorway at 70 mph.
Don't know if this is something anyone has knowledge of. I've just installed a new Sony headunit in my Corsa, but the unit never remembers stations etc. I've discovered the continous power supply connects to a wire (through the leads Sony supply to the vauhxall fittings)- but have no idea what wire this is.
I've looked through the Corsa manual and the original stereo manual and still can't find a diagram of what each vauxhall wire is.
Also if (and when) I do find the correct connection, how do I change the pins in the sony lead - they seem to be stuck fairly tight and no amount of pulling with pliers works.
All help / advice warmly welcomed. Read more
This stereo install tutorial should help anyone else looking for what's needed / required to upgrade the Corsa B Stereo.
