top turkey

Hi there.

As the family holiday season is coming up, I was wondering if anyone would recommend the Magellan Roadmate 700? I've read a couple of reviews and this one seems to come out consistently good.

Ideally, I'd like to buy it with 0% finance and wondered if anyone knew of any retailers (online or offline)that offer this kind of deal?

It would only need to cover the UK and ideally, also be able to pick up any known traffic problems so that we can avoid or take a detour - this would also come in handy on the daily commute too.

My first impression is that this is a little pricey and wondered if anyone would recommend a TomTom equivilant for less cash?

Cheers.

The acetone thread reminded me:

It is months since I last used Millers Diesel Plus, my last few fillups mave been Texaco nad normal BP, I then filled up with BP Ultimate (95.9p/ltr!!) and the smell reminded me so much of Millers.

I am convinced that BP Ult uses the same cetane boosters as Millers therefore it might be inadvisable to use Millers with BP Ult because, I am guessing, it might be an issue having overly high levels of cetane in diesel.

Any thoughts? Read more

ive got a mk5 gttdi golf that i put ultimate into.
ive read that people using ultimate are still putting millers in their tank but it just seems a waste to me.if i was going to use ordinary diesel id think about adding some millers but like you say not with a fuel thats already higher in cetane.in the owners manual it says you can use petrol additive for petrol engines.but do not use diesel additives in diesels.
dont know why.

ROTFLMAO.

I didn't realise one of those Fiats could go so fast, and have 4 wheel steering. Wonder if they got the idea from the Allegro in that it's more aerodynamic in reverse than forwards ;o)

Great backing track as well. One of my favourite bad boy songs.

After an hour's googling in vain - can anyone advise where to find booking details of overnight accom. in motorway services in France?

There don't seem to be the usual Accor chains there. Specifically, we hope to stay in the Clermont Ferrand section. Mr R would prefer not to leave the motorway.

Any ideas? Read more

No, not that one - but it looks good! We will be near Servian.

more probs with "my lovely car".About 3 weeks ago, I got an error on the computer "check centre brake light".When I could,I did, only to find that it was fine.Last week, I got an error message "check rear left brake light".When I checked, the offside rear, bottom(there's two bulbs) had blown.I actually bought 4 bulbs and replaced them all, keeping the 3 working, old bulbs,as spares.Today, I got an error,"check rear right brake bulb".When I checked,it actually looks as though both rear "bottom" bulbs have blown.Another concern I have is that the error message repeatedly flags up.I thought it should only appear after starting up the car or immediately after detecting a fault.Has anybody else had this problem?. Any ideas?. This is my 2nd problem in 4 months.Car has done 15K miles and only last week the Timing belt tensioner worked loose and was replaced under warranty. Read more

As 'elekie&a/c doctor' says, the Vectra has a very clever system called CANBUS.

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=30...8

As with other computer systems, your Vectra's electrics *might* have got themselves into a paddy, and quite possibly just need a reboot. Try disconnecting the battery for a short period to see if it's possible to reset the electronics.

Word of warning though, make sure you have the radio code beforehand, and if you've got a factory fit alarm, it has it's own battery back up and will go off if you disconnect the main car battery. To quote from the manual "If the vehicle?s battery is to be disconnected (e.g. for maintenance work), the alarm siren must be deactivated as follows: switch the ignition on then off, disconnect the vehicle?s battery within 15 seconds."

Hi there
Found this site by accident as I am at my wits end!
Last December i bought a new car, five year warrenty - thought great. As a woman who knows nothing about cars I thought hasle free driving at last.
Was I wrong! In January a friend noticed that all the coolant had gone. So I informed dealer who took it in."Yes Miss Trusting..there is a leak, only we don't know where. Here's a bottle of antifreeze and come back if it happens again". You guessed it ..500 miles later it had all gone. My local dealer have had the car in 6 times now. They are stumped and I feel I know them so well that we are on first name terms!
Seriously though, I have informed the finace company of my problem as I suppose it is their car. I have suggested maybe there might be another answer like giving me a new car.
The manager has eventually said that if this last time they can't find then he will look at replacing the car with one of similar mileage and age.
Problem is that I have been told that getting on similar to mine will be like gold dust. Do I have to accept this. Ideally I think I would prefer my deposit back and enough money to settle my finance off and by a BIKE!!!

Please can anybody advice as so many people keep telling different things. I though about going down the legal route but I would probably end up with a whopping bill knowing my look.
I really wouldn@t mind them swapping the car if they could find one the same age or younger and with the same mileage or less but I am told this willbe virtually impossible.

Any Constructive advice warmly welcome. Thank you

Hi there everyone. I spoke to the garage and asked them
specifically what they have done up to now. Now, let me
get this right:
Pressure tested it 4 times!
Say if this doesn't work they are stumped!!

But that won't help you as you need your car. What will they do for you in the meantime? Have you got a courtesy car?
And I am in the process of e-mailing the Director of
Hyundai - maybe he has a suggestion!!

Fistly, I would write to him to let him know that the dealer are lookign into the problem and hopefully you will not need to contact him again. I mean write, not just e mail him.

Secondly, if they do become "stumped" as they put it, you need to make sure they work to put the problem right for you. If you're already in contact with the Director or someone from his executive office result will come much quicker.

I have used this tactic twice recently with different companies. Both occasions produced astonishing results.

Also, A friend of mine with a Fiat Multipla got a brand new replacement car in leu of a 6 month old one that kept causing him problems. He made his case very politely but firmly to the dealer. His replacement has been fine AFAIK.

My car currently rolls along on 14in steel wheels carrying 185/65R14 tyres. Because it looks a bit like its on stilts, I would like to get some nice alloys, possibly 15 or 16 inchers. Is this a good idea, and if so what size tyre do I need to get so that the speedo etc are not affected?
Apologies if this has been asked before!

Yes, this has been covered before.

However click on this link: www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/index.html?menu....l

Look at the wheel and tyre bible. There is a calculator to compare rolling radius, etc.

Some of you may have read my thread in discussion last week regarding a suitable replacement for the above car. Well it looks as if the car overheard and wants to stay as it now needs some money spending on it!

A couple of days ago the handbrake went - not sure if the cable has snapped or just needs adjustment. However, SWMBO is also complaining that there is more travel than usual on the brake pedal now. Would this be a result of the failed handbrake? I've checked the front pads and there's still material left on them so that's not the problem. The car is a CVT auto if that makes a difference.

Nasty_Nick

Hi,

I've recently bought a 2nd hand 1.4 306 which is only 5 years old so I'm unsure if this is a new or existing fault.

The problem is that occassionally I'll find that when idling, accelerating, or when driving at low revs, the engine jerks, and sounds as though it is misfiring. Its happened 2/3 times in the past week. After I've started and stopped it several times it seems to stop for a couple of days and then randomly restart.

I've also noticed that the trip meter resets itself when the jerking begins. For example, I will drive the car into my local town and it will be fine, and when I come to drive home again, I will start the engine with no problems, but the trip meter will be set to zero, and under the above conditions it will jerk.

To me it sounds like an EMU problem with the meter being reset, but no warning lights appear.

Anyone have any ideas?!

Thanks

Nick

Just a couple more things to add, as it isnt getting much of a response!!

Will the engine continue to run without the EMU running? Im guessing it would as a fail safe thing, although it would run roughly?

As I was driving today, the trip meter repeatedly reset itself, managing to clock up, at most, 0.3 miles. When the meter was reset, this coincided with the jerking, and possible miss-firing.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Nick
