After an hour's googling in vain - can anyone advise where to find booking details of overnight accom. in motorway services in France?
There don't seem to be the usual Accor chains there. Specifically, we hope to stay in the Clermont Ferrand section. Mr R would prefer not to leave the motorway.
Any ideas?

I found this link in 10 seconds on Google! It looks quite relevant, I hope!

Thanks - had a good rummage, but still can't find which hotels are on the autoroutes at the 'aires de services'. This is despite being pretty fluent in French.
The A71 doesn't seem to be a part of any of the autoroute companies so no luck on their websites.
Will keep looking!

I don't know if it would help but there is excellent route planning aid at www.viamichelin.com. It will give you an S to B via X type of route and being a Michelin site might help out with en route accommodation. Hope this helps

Further to my last posting, I have just spoken to a collague who regularly drives to Spain and needs to overnight in France. He mentions Mercure and Camapnile chains as good and Formule 1 and Mr Bed as very cheap not en-suite etc. Her is a link to Campanile properties.

From memory there is only 1 service station that has accommodation on the section between Clermont F and Millau. At a first pass I cannot find it but will try later. My advice is to get off the autoroute, find some of the small town old style hotels, and avoid the chains of Premier Classe, Campagnile etc. Places that come to mind are St Amand Montrond (to the N) and St Flour (to the S)

( I have stayed in both).
You will find hotels with some character and much better food.
Now the bridge has been built at Millau I guess that some of the town centre hotels there will be looking for business.
If you are coming further south I can give you some personal recommendations for hotel accommodation. Temp is currently 27C with a very light breeze.

Thanks everyone.
Have now found and booked the independent 2* hotel des Volcans at the Volcans services on the A71 just before Clermont Ferrand. 59 Euros for family of 4
Final destination is near Beziers where the in-laws live. We will be staying in a chateau.

Good; have a safe drive and a good holiday!
