Glancing at the dashboard of the CC3 the other day, I saw a rotary switch I've never used and probably never will.

The thing that moves the headlights up and down.

It's for heavy loads, isn't it?

I hardly ever carry heavy loads, if I did it probably wouldn't be in the dark, and if it was, would the lights point so far skyward, they would need winding down?

There's barely any play in the suspension, so it just won't happen.

I will never use the electric headlamp adjuster.

What feature on your car will you never use?

I bought a DAB seperate about 3 years ago for £100 as I was sick of the hiss I got from my Sony tuner. I used to have a Denon 260 MK2 but I stupidly swapped it for this brand new crappy Sony FM tuner.

However my DAB is the biggest waste of money ever, I just cannot listen to it at 128kbps, you can imagine fed into my Cambridge Azure 640A it sounds pretty damn awful!

At least the old Virgin station is in 160kbps and sounds half decent.

I know I need to have a whole new headlight before my MOT this year.

No problem acquiring one at a good price, but is it expensive to get fitted?

I'm wondering how complex it could be considering how annoyingly awkward fitting just the bulbs can be!

Any pre-warning would be gratefully received! I'll sit down just in case ;-)

I've got a Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi 53 plate. It has a digital dash display for temperature. The cooling fan works fine, Water level is ok.
Problem started about 6 months ago, temperature gauge would be on cool for the first mile in the morning than all of a sudden it starts flashing all its arrows and the red 'Engine high Temperature' red symbol on the dash next to the gauge comes on. This will last maybe another mile than just as suddenly the gauge goes back to normal showing a reading that is below half on the gauge. At first I kept checking to see if car was overheating, cooling fan, water level but all seemed normal. I assumed this was some quirk. The gauge would never go above normal temp for the rest of the journey no matter how long.

Today the gauge did all its flashing its digital arrows and red symbol came on. Instead of doing the usual they stayed on for the rest of the journey. I pulled over, cooling fan, water level all seemed normal and engine didn?t seem any hotter than usual. I cut the journey, had a picnic and waited for engine to cool. A few hours later on start up flashing gauge and red symbol came on straight away.
Clearly I am getting a false reading but need gauge as I do not want to blow head gasket or warp the head or worse.
Anyone else had this problem? Any help please would be much appreciated. Mick.

If levels and you can feel the temp is fine then i would place a bet on the water Temp Sender unit (Sensor) being faulty or in need of testing as your 1st port of call.

I would guess that this is somewhere near the radiator. Haynes manual would specify where.

bell boy

yes it does
they have ecu problems that cause owners to scrap the cars because the faults cant be cured
your idea of battery off does cure these problems for a while but the faults come back
im not joking
i first came across the doowoo problem a few years ago when a minter appeared in my local breaker with instructions it was never to go back on the road, this was obviously before the scrappage scandal and the sex pistols taking over the world

Which wheel size have you found best suits the Focus II ?

Comparing wheel sizes 205/55/16 and 205/50/17 with any given tyre what differences have you noticed ?

Is there a noticable difference in noise and comfort levels between the above wheel sizes for any given tyre ?

Which tyres have you found to be worse or best for noise, comfort, wear, handling, braking in wet & dry ?

Thanks. Read more

That's interesting to know, did any of the hired petrol Focus cars have 17" wheels or were they all standard 16" ? Which type of Dunlop tyres were fitted ?

It's likely the extra weight of a diesel over the front wheels may impact a little on ride & comfort levels, whereas a petrol engine offers less weight over the front wheels.

I'm not sure but does anyone know if the springs/suspension setup for a diesel Focus is different to that of a petrol engine Focus ?

I know Ford has slightly changed the suspension setup for the Focus II upgrade from 2008 onwards and it has helped improve the ride quality and reduced road noise.

I need to find out what the towing restrictions were for the old A class license with 7500kg entitlement or C1 C1+E. This licence was the green one before the 1990 Euro licence came in. Thanks Read more

I meant to say, Focus, if your lad is studying for Grade 6 at the age of 12, he must be pretty talented. If it's any comfort, I can't remember when I last had a car as young as eight years old... :-)

I was needing to overtake today and used kickdown which took me almost into the red section on the tachometer. Does anyone regularly take their car to the red line and what does this do to the engine....keep it flexible or cause damage? You often get small engined cars at full revs belting around our roads. >>> Amid all this caution, it should be remembered that some manufacturers, one springs to mind in particular - I'm sure I don't need to name it - design their engines to be revved hard and always have done <<<

Yes, I must admit - I've always found H---a engines to be very free revving, and they seemed to like it!

Hi again - hope I'm not becoming a nuisance by coming to the forum so often. Still a newby, still learning.

This question has been asked here before (I did a quick search) but unfortunately the link given by the person who answered it no longer works.

I can't seem to identify clearly where the jacking points are. The Haynes manual and a couple of other sources on the web place the points a short distance behind the front wheels and a short distance infront of the back wheels. But when I look closer, I can't really see anything that looks distinct. Any other clues or visual cues ? Are the points nearer the sills, or deeper under the car ? (Unfortunately I bought the car 2nd hand - there was no owner's manual).

Many thanks. Read more

Thanks guys - you pointed me in the right direction. I've found the jacking points (front and rear). Infact, just a short while a go, I found the jacking points shown in the Haynes Manual (near the back of the book, REF*5) - albeit it is just a line drawing. Anyway, I cleaned up the area near the points but alas- there aren't any arrows. Just the slightly raised bits of the sill with two 'cuts' on either side.

Thanks again - will take the usual precautions when jacking up - and definately won't tamper with anything unneccessarily.

Regards,

AH
