My daughter has just bought a 2001 corsa 1.0 with 22000 miles on clock the car appears immaculate but im concerned about the uneveness/lumpiness of car when setting off from a standing start there is no vibration through gear lever and when stood outside of car it sounds sweet as anything, but unless you give it plenty of gas when setting off it feels like your driving a tractor from inside of car, but on the open road it also very quiet she bought it from a reputable toyota dealer who serviced it and stamped the book, she insists shes happy with it,but me being the over protective father am concerned thatthis problem could develop any ideas please? We suspected the rings were broken but today we got the pistons out and there is no rings broken but three pistons are broke (The thin piece of alloy between the two top rings about 2 inches long) all in the same place...
The oil on the inside of the rocker cover was a bit milky but the header tank was full of coolant and didnt seem to be building up pressure.
chris..
Anyone used brembo brake disks (MB C220), are they OE quality or is it better to use a dealer part?
regards Read more
Zimmermann have been recommended to me before, who are apparantly an OE producer.
I have recently seen two disks for the same car from from Zimmermann and Brembo. Apparantly (according to the parts guy, problems with either are rare. The Zimmermann disks I saw were made in Germany. I assume the Brembo italian - but I didnt check.
However after looking more closely the zimmermann were very slightly sharp and rough on the edges, and had circular lines across the entire disk. Whilst the Brembos were smoothly finished on the edges and disk showned a ground finish.
Overall the Brembo just looking a slightly more refined product.
The ground finish probably makes little difference, as the surface will be worn by the pads. However according to the Brembo website discs are "ground or fine turned depending on OE specifications, ensures improved pad-discs fit and better running-in" and "The braking surface is machined to exact O. E. specifications to ensure synergy between the friction material and disc, from the running-?in-stage"
Lastly the Brembo come with replacement screws - The zimmermanns dont.
Lastly according to the Brembo website (The Zimmerman site is basic and out of date!), Brembo is a OE producer to 31 manufactuers including MB. And all aftermarket items are produced in the same factories, to the same specifiction as OE.
From others who have used Zimmermann there seems to be no problem. However getting back to the original question - You will have no problem with Brembo disks as they are fully OE spec (if not better!) which I have fitted to my MB.
Going back to cost. Have a look at ECP and GSF, in my case the disks were about 1/2 that the price from MB!
Can anyone advise me on bridging the starter solenoid terminals (old Spitfire)?
I understand there will be sparks, but there's no problem so long as the bridging material doesn't touch another earth?
I propose to hold a small spanner across the contacts using a pair of pliers with rubber handles, will this be ok? Read more
I used to do the same thing on a Renault Magnum artic, 2 X 140ah at 24 volts, one leather glove and a screw driver, as long as your smart with screw driver, no sparks !. new solenoid was nearly £80, soon got fed up with that lark and parted with the reddies.

Hi there,
R reg Ford Ka, keeps stalling under braking - even lightly. Starts again no problem on starter motor.
Seems to idle a bit roughly as well, yet seems quite smooth when revved.
Anyone got any ideas on what could be causing this please? My main idea is the idle speed control valve, if it has one of these?
Cheers. Read more
Just to post how this ended up......
Valve failed completely after final clean.
Bought brand new one - car is running fine now.
Thanks for everyones help.
A friend has a Ford Fiesta (latest model).
The car is suffering with a severe lack of power and the "ERC fail" warning light is showing.
What does this mean? Any ideas?

I spoke to Ford HQ who told me that the on-board
software is able to correct certain faults such as this.
So it checked for faulty wiring, ordered the part and fitted it itself while you slept.

I know this may have been covered before, but why are rear wipers always specified on estates and hatches but never on saloons? I can think of many occasions when I could have done with such a wiper on my Passat.
Is the rear wiper omitted for aesthetic or cost reasons or is there some science?

I have a problme with cracks in the ceiling in my house. We bought the place about 8 months ago at which time the decoration in the house was immaculate. Recently we have noticed that many of the celings are beginning to crack. The house was bulit in 1989 and the celings are plasterboard. I think it is the gap between the boards that we are seeing. The cracks are evident both upstairsa nd downstairs. I suspect that the previous owners had the place decorated top to bottom in order to sell it. Now to my queries:
What is casuing the cracking?
WHat can we do to cover them up and to stop it happening again.
Cheers Read more

Hi guys,
My remote central locking has packed in on my Fiesta. I have tried a new battery in the key fob, but with no lock. This literally happened out of the blue - In the morning it worked - when I got to work, nothing!
I have a horrible feeling this may get expense so if there is anything I can check myself please let me know.
Thanks Read more
All sorted - I did, in fact have to reprogram the key.
Luckily I have a Ford TIS Cd which confirmed this needs to be done for remote locking as well. A strange omission for the manual.
Sell it !! - Get an early Yaris 1999 1.0 VVTi - far better car, over 50mpg and 100% reliable. Had a 1.0 Corsa as a courtesy car a few years back - horrid engine and gbox - thought it was broken.
Sorry but these are nasty cars !
