For the past month my computer has stated *Engine fault: risk of filter clogging* It stays up for about 10 seconds after I switch on the engine, then disappears.
I took it in today for a service and it's coming up with fault code P1435 multiplexed additive pump fault returns.
I've had the additive tank refilled with pat fluid, reset and regen.
My mechanic has suggested it's a suspect pump? Possibly needs replacing but he says that this may not clear the problem.
Other than this, the car runs perfectly well and has driven approx 1500 miles since its showed up.
Any suggestions? Read more

A diagnostic with Peugeot Planet or Diagbox can activate the pump to see if its working. Try that.

There can be an issue where the pump electrical connection can drop out due to dirt ingress in its location in the wheel arch, but that's usually on older cars which have done around 100k....

My Central locking has just ceased to work. When locking the car by key in the drivers or passenger door or by the remote, the boot actuator clicks and a slight noise from both the front door actuators but no locking. The red light on the centre dash illuminates and the eterior flashers illuminate.

When unlocking the car with the key or the remote the same ocuurs as when locking except that the flashers flash.... Read more

Late model 206's, in good condition, can still command a fair price.

Give BBA reman a call for a price on repair, or just pick up a second hand replacement.

Recently changed from my 2007 TC auto Kia Ceed to 2014 DCT 3 1.6 petrol Ceed.

This is my review of DCT after few days of driving.

The gear changes are imperceptible. It has got 6-speed dual clutch transmission. Compared to my old 4-speed TC auto, it feels smoother.

There are few differences though!

It creeps bit faster than TC auto. This is mentioned in handbook. I guess because it is dry clutch, the ECU needs to keep the rev bit higher to prevent stalling.

In my TC auto, I often kept the car stationary in slight uphills doing nothing. The TC forward force usually cancelled out roll back due to gravity. This is not possible in DCT (in fact handbook advises not to do so). Just like a manual clutch, it will burn the clutch. So car has to be placed in neutral during all stopping. It has got HAC (Hill Assist Control) so will prevent rolling backward during uphill start from rest. More so, car should be placed in N for all stops including stoppage at traffic lights on flat ground. Leaving the car in D and then using parking brake is not advised in the handbook (if you do so, the car will possibly move it to N from D internally as handbook says you must do D-N-D routine to move the car again if you apply parking brake while in D).

Engine braking can be felt more strongly when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal (just like a manual) - which is a good thing IMHO. In TC auto it was not so perceptible.

There is a "Sport" mode where I can manually up/downs shift using flappy pedals. Tried few times and don't think I would bother, except downshifting before steep hills.

While you can manually shift gears in Sport mode, if engine RPM is not within suitable range, the ECU will not accept your changes.

Overall the car shifts gears as expected from an auto. Can't comment on long term reliability but I have the 7-yr warranty if things go wrong. Although I bought a year old car, being approved used, Kia bundled full 7-yr warranty from the date collected.

There is a button for ECO mode which limits torque for best fuel consumption. This makes the car noticably sluggish compared to performance when ECO mode is off. However, I shall use the ECO mode most of the time :)

Being "3" spec, it has got many features like built in sat nav, climate control, rear view camera, TPMS, passenger seat height adjustment etc. Not yet explored all features.

If you are interested, please note that since 2015, Kia has stopped offering petrol DCT for Ceed. It is now only available as 7-speed diesel.

There are some niggles though. The temp gauge is now digital which you need to manually show by pressing few scroll buttons. The instant fuel economy is now a digital bar (instead of actual number) and only displayed in MPG (in old model you change change units to km, L etc.) On plus side, I can see the bonnet by leaning a little bit which is advantage when parking (didn't try any tight parking yet).

The auto light is nice feature (even though I thought I'd hate it) but auto wiper is not of much use. Too slow to clear droplets.

There is a separate switch for clearing front windscreen - this clears mist much quicker compared to old model. Read more

A manual clutch is operated by human operator (driver).

A DCT system is operated by computer programmed by maker. So it DCT fails within warranty period, it is fault and should be fixed by maker under warranty....

Having bought a dashcam (a Nextbase 402G) I'm wondering whether all you good people who use these gadgets leave them in the car as a deterrent, or remove them, when leaving the car parked. Read more

I bought a roadhawk,4 year ago, installed it behind the mirror, and it has been there ever since, quite unobtrusive.

Only unplugged when privately parked at home....

I recently owned a 2002 BMW E39 530d which I bought from new, covered 172000 largely trouble free miles and sold it in excellent condition. I changed the oil every 6-7000 miles.

I have replaced it with a new 2015 5series F10 535d with 50,000 mile service pack but the first oil chage is not due until 21,000 miles. I recently took it in to the local BMW dealer for an additional oil change at 10,000 miles. When booking I was told that an additional oil change was not necessary and that I was wasting my money, but after I insisted they agreed to do the work for an estimated £182. When I dropped it off on the day the receptionist again insisted the work wasn't necessary and I was told that BMW would not normally carry out unnecessary work. As they had agreed to book in the car they then agreed to undertake it. Actual charge £210.... Read more

My sons 2007 325i petrol doesn't, and from everything he's read there isn't a solution to the missing dipstick available, he was hoping there might be a suitable blanked off hole where one could be retrofitted.

If you know of such a thing, details would be gratefully received.

Hi all,

Just wondered the backroomers opinion on getting a ussed a black cab and using it for private use. I personally love the black cab and if I wasn't in my current profession or ever leave it, I'll complete 180 and I'd be driving a black cab! ... Read more

I seem to recall that cities outside London which still use black cabs (e.g. Manchester) tend to be the place where London black cabs are sent after they have done sterling service in the Smoke. Might have changed now of course.

Got a new Forester XT - brilliant car in almost every way except the alarm goes off randomly for no apparant reason. Narrowed it down to the Microwave Sensor using the alarm status LED and started deleting the sensor using the keypad underneath the dash every time I switched the engine off. However, you can't expect to have to do this with a new car so contacted the dealer who told me the Microwave Sensor is affected by mobile phones and having a phone near the centre console while driving will play havoc with the sensor settings and possibly cause the alarm to trigger at 3am, as has happened a few times. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix - can the sensor be changed or, as a last resort, disconnected? A lot of modern cars have these sensors so the Forester can't be the only model affected.

After dithering for a while I finally purchased a used Forester XT in June this year (a 66 plate). Funnily enough the only trouble I've had so far has been the aircon...I noticed driving it home from the dealer it wasn't working at all. Phoned 'Dales Subaru' who couldn't have been more helpful to sort it. They were very apologetic, and drove over to my house to collect car (a 1 hr journey each way), left me a brand new Outback to use, then brought my car back later that afternoon. It had a new condenser and a re-gas. They just said 'no charge it's all under warranty.' Whether same situation if I'd had car 6 mths I don't know but obviously a weak point on these vehicles.

Alarm only gone off once when I accidentally left phone in car (not in cubby but was on back seat)....

Bought a 2006 1.2 clio extreme on monday (privately). Today the heaters stopped working (all 4 x speeds). I checked the fuse (LHS under steering wheel - 20A) and this appared ok. I have found in some forums that fans fail at certain speed settings, maybe 1-3, but not all 4. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I contacted the seller and he said that it had never happened to him (which I believe) and I had checked the heaters on all settings before buying. Car has covered 82K miles Read more

I have just replaced a metal brake pipe in the rear system of my Shogun. I have bled both of the rear wheels and the bleed valve on top of the rear brake limiting valve.
