Looking for oil for my VAG PD, I came across Mannol PD oil retailing at £22 for 5 litres. Whilst I wouldn't purchase such an unknown for a PD, preferring to stick with a recognised brand, I just wondered if anyone has used it.
Its claimed to be German and the website looks professional with a good look up facility.... Read more
What are your thoughts on the 3-cylinder engines used in small cars nowadays.
For example, the mk I Toyota Yaris had a 4-cylinder 1.0 engine. This was replaced in later models by a 3-cylinder engine with the same BHP.... Read more

Need some help regarding the engine management light, came on when sitting in traffic but no miss fire or jerky tick over, turned it off back on light out drove on great. Stopped at lights same again.
I know these 3 cylinder engines suffer from number 3 miss fire due to sticky valves but you get the jerky tick over normally so I'm wondering if it's the pre cat lambda sensor. I change the oil as someone said give it a new oil service and plugs I did this and it ran ok for few weeks but the lights back on. I have had it plugged in and it has fault codes for mis Fire on cylinder, low battery drive and oxygen failure so fitted new battery I'm now fairly convinced it maybe the lambda sensor as the engine ticks and runs fine but the light stays on.
Is it worth spending more money on a new sensor???
Thanks for reading all advice well received

These 3 cylinder engines are very sensitive. Fit anything remotely out of spec and they throw error codes. Out of interest did you take up the error with the VW dealership that did the service? I would have thought you could claim some sort of compensation for your time and effort. Particularly as you gave them 3 attempts to sort the issue.
I noticed my neighbour has removed both headrests in the front seats? I don't know why any one would do this, it is a family car, but was wondering if this is illegal? Read more
I've frequently had to remove the passenger headrest from cars when transporting bulky items. It would be pretty annoying not to be able to do that.
I remove the rear headrests on all my cars and put them in the boot. They only get used if I have rear set passengers. Much better rear view without headrests in the way....
I raised this issue a few weeks ago but no one seemed interested. I measured some new Michelin Crossclimate tyres as having only 7mm tread instead of the 8mm I expected all new passenger tyres to have. Michelin confirmed in writing that crossclimates have only between (iirc) 6.7 to 7.0mm of tread new.
Now Ive bought 2 brand new Conti Premium contact 2 tyres for another car for its MOT and was surprised to see them report them at only 7mm. I confirmed that reading, with even less near the edges.... Read more
Hi just for information,I asked Hankook what tread depth when new was on their Ventus S1 Evo 3 K127 tyre, the reply was 6.6 mm
Edit
Had a reply from Yokohama their tyre Advan Fleva V701 has 7.5mm
Seen this oil advertised today. Will this oil really make much difference to engine longevity. Apparently it will form a self healing layer that will cling to metal surfaces. What do people think?

Hi,
I had my gearbox refurbished last year and the clutch replaced. Now today I noticed a very similar issue that I had last year, when the gearbox blew up. I suddenly noticed that I couldn't get the gear out of 3, when turning in a corner. I just managed to pull in front of the house, while parking I put the gear in reverse, again I couldn't get it out. Turned engine off, and I was successful removing it. I am fearing I will need a new gearbox again :(... Read more
Thanks, took it to the garage and the gearbox need changing once again. Only had the car for 2 years and it is the second time :( I think it might be time to throw in the towel with it...
So you need to buy an engine for your vehicle after yours has failed, your mechanic has asked you to locate one. Maybe, you should be wondering why he isn’t finding it for you? You don’t take the TV for a repair and the technician asks you to get him a screen from somewhere.
The answer is simple! Buying an engine is an absolute mine field, hence, your mechanic won’t source one for you, he will no doubt have “burnt his fingers before”. If he supplies and fits an engine for you and the unit is faulty, then who will pay for his labour? But if you supply him the engine and it’s faulty, then you will be still required to pay his bill and all you can do is hope that your supplier will reimburse you.... Read more

Thanks so much for your help guys. Just what I needed. Today the voltage went up to 14.3 with the engine ticking over, so from what you say the battery should be charging ok. (I was just surprised that if the battery is duff, the voltage didn't drop more on load.)
Guess I just need a new battery....
Thanks for the Taiwan perspective !
My take away from all messages now I have read the responses since inception in 2021 is that Mannol branded Car Engine oil of any modern viscosity is good, nay an excellent oil for the spec / value it gives and nobody has any concerns of the brands validity. ...
