Just sold my GF's 2003(52) polo Tdi sport 1.9 with full MOT 63.5k, Inside was immaculate outside usual wear and tear.1 month tax. 3 door Silver.
A nice couple came liked it paid the full £3k asking price in cash with no haggling. Now I know this is a good car and we've half heartedly advertised it for 3 weeks now but this is the firs viewer. We're happy with the price and to have it gone(we had 4 cars for 2 of us) But have we undervalued it??
The whole transaction was a pleasant experience. I really wasn't looking forward to it. Read more
Is this a common fault with Mondeos, when i open the boot on my 2.0 Zetec Hatchback the rain water runs off either side of the raised hatch and into the boot. Is there a quick fix or do i have to wipe the rear window and bodywork every time i open the boot. Read more
OK, so my gearbox on my TDCi is getting a bit difficult - the car has done 160k miles on the original clutch - is it a cert that I need to replace the clutch? Mainly difficult to engage from cold, and into second a bit 'clunky'. I got the box oil changed, and the action was better, but not fixed. I have stalled the engine a couple of times from cold because of it.
Also, my garage reckons it best to replace the dual-mass flywheel as well, I presume becuase once the clutch is out you may as well - sound advice?
And third - are there any cheaper non-Ford suppliers of dual-mass flywheels? Read more
Dear all,
Mrs apm and I have settled on a Volvo S60 as our next car. I looked at three today, just considering options. All are D5's, with SE spec.
1) Silver with light grey leather, auto, 33k, 55 plate. This one's an ex-company car, felt a little tired and unloved, despite low miles. Up for £9k, but the stingy trade in offer means not the bargain we first thought it was.
2) Dark blue with beige leather & wood trim, auto, 42k, 05 plate. Felt really lovely inside and well-cared for. Up for £9950, but good trade in means lower cost to change than above. Problem on test-drive- heard a whooshing noise from the engine on accelerating. Might have been my imagination, but felt a little down on power compared to others I have driven.
3) Metallic burgundy, black leather, manual, 25k, 07 plate. This one was lovely, really rapid and smooth. I'd have it like a shot, except that we really wanted an auto and light interior. Up for £13k, but very generous trade in.
We can afford all of the above. My favourite was 2), but I'm concerned about that noise- any ideas what it might be (but for the noise, I would have bought it there and then)? There is a warranty, but I'd rather not buy a car with a fault. I do like the manual (3), but we had kind of decided we wanted an auto, and it would be a bit of a disappointment to not have it. The first just didn't feel as nice as 2), although I'm sure we'd grow to love it. Very rapid.
Opinions valued! Just to say we have decided that we want an S60, so much as I'm sure there are BR'ers who feel there are better cars in the sector, I'd prefer just to get opinions about these!
Many thanks in advance,
Alex. Read more
You can hear the turbo working on all D5 engines to a greater or lesser extent. Some seem louder than others but it doesn't indicate anything wrong.

If you know the model number, try putting in into the search box (top RH corner) of the following website:-
ice.dndservices.co.uk/
Failing that, post the model number here and I'll do a google search.
I've just fitted a second-hand Alpine 7521RM radio to SWMBO's Saxo as the FM tuner on the original radio failed. Everything works fine until the headlights are turned on at which point the radio shows 'Pause' and no controls will work. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for or what may be the problem? TIA! Read more
I imagine the headlight feed could be going into the telephone mute pin. Suspect the problem lies with eBay item. You could scoot down to Halfords and try for a genuine thing. If it doesn't work you can always take it back.
So glad I passed my test in 1981 and dont have to go through this lot. Read more
Madux,
I don't thinkI had anything else in 63 but I could be having a very SM. If I remember, you could ride any PTW up to 250cc on a provisional and then anything after passing.
Maybe someone even older than me (you?) may have more memory cells surviving.
Borrowed a 125 Lambretta later and went camping, two up with a mate, to Abersoch.
I do remember that it had no woodruffe key on the rear stub axle and we had to keep feeding it with sixpenny pieces bent in half with pliers. Eventually failed on the way home somewhere on the Caernarfon road, dumped it in a farmyard. Had to get Dad to take us back and pick it up in his Bedford Utilabrake.

Hi,
I have the above car and have just changed the batteries in the fob and now it will only UNLOCK the doors and will NOT LOCK them.
When I press the LOCK button, the doors will not lock and there is faint PEEPING noise from the alarm(not full sound from alarm) for about 30 seconds and then stops.
The doors lock/unlock ok with the KEY and the engine starts fine.
How can I reset the remote control fob?
I only have 1 key.
Toyota are asking £60 + VAT to re-set the key fob.
If someone can help please.
Thanks

When "wheel twirling" such as three point turning or pulling out of a tight space, power assistance sometimes disappears. Sometimes returns if you stop moving the wheel, wait, and recommence, sometimes it doesn't.
Otherwise seems OK - no noise, odd feel, warning lights etc.
And is the Haynes manual's suggestion that if the PAS electric motor at fault, it requires replacement of the entire steering column really true? Why am I seeing £ signs?
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers

It's a very long time since this thread was updated, but for anybody looking for solutions to this problem, I may have something to offer.
I bought a Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 diesel new in 2006. It's 10 years old this year, so although it has only done 50,000 miles, I changed the timing belt. The car has two belts - the timing belt and the "auxilliary belt", which takes power from the crankshaft and drives the alternator, the airconditioning and the power steering pump. This belt must be removed before the timing belt can be accessed, and in so doing, the reservoir for the steering fluid must be moved out of the way. It's on two flexible tubes, and before moving it, I looked at the level of fluid in it, and reckoned that the level would not drop below either tube - but I can't be certain that it didn't....
ive not long had this jeep and a week ago i noticed if felt abit strange when i went around corners,it felt like it skipped out abit, when i got home i pushed and pulled on the top of the rear wheel and there was some movement in it,ive checked the wheel nuts and they are fine and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions
many thanks in advance jo Read more
Hi
agree there should be end float so not likely wheel bearing at fault.
Thanks. I was pleased to see it go(we had 4 cars for two of us) and the transaction was fairly painless. Pleased to see it went to a nice young lady as her daily car to replace a 1.1 clio which had packed in.
