Hi, Fitted 2 x new headlight bulbs (£14 from Halfords -rip off!) under 2 weeks ago to a vehicle I have just aquired (Mitsubishi Galant) as both lights were out but all other lights OK.
I notice just last night that one of the lights is not working (previously fine) I will check the connection later today but I think it's blown and suspect the other bulb will blow shortly too,
So, has anyone else had this problem? what's the most likely cause of the headlights blowing out.
thanks for any advice

Hi
Wanted to jump-start a car using the Volvo V70 as the good-battery car. The manual tells you where to connect cables when you want to jump-start the V70 itself (using terminals under bonnet rather than direct to battery in boot) but not what to do where the V70 is the good-battery car.
So - do I just use the same under bonnet terminals to get at the V70 battery output or do I need to connect directly to the battery terminals in the boot (removing the cover etc.)?
thanks Read more
Sorry SjB - when you say "a bracket on the engine
as the ground and the "positive" connection under the bonnet" -
is this refeering to where you put the leads on your
V70 or where you put the leads on the SAAB? Thanks...
Both.
With "normal" cars I do as written in a previous post.
With the V70 though there is no negative terminal from which to jump, so I use any good earthing point on the engine instead.
On the "flat battery car" I also use an earth point, not the battery negative terminal, for the spark reason given.
i have a renault laguna 2.0 rxe 1995. i was driving home today i come to a corner dropped down gear from 3rd to 2nd when i lifted the clutch there was no drive at all so put it into first still no drive managed to get it towed home what would be the problem? Read more
Surely if you cannot operate the clutch, for whatever reason, the symptom would not be a lack of drive,it would have stayed in 3rd gear, unless it is suggested that the clutch is stuck in the 'out'position, unlikely I would have thought.More likely a gearbox fault, linkage as Xileno says.
Anybody out there help, a little old lady scraped my back bumper yesterday, 2003 Honda CRV, its the black bumper not the painted one, doesn't seem to have broke the surface just a few lighter (in colour) marks. I have no wish to sting the old dear for a new bumper but would like to get the marks out. I know about the ordinary "back to black" silicone sprays but they are normally clear, I'm going to need something with a bit of colour in it, any backroomers out there got any hints, tips, brand names etc? I was thinking maybe something like a black gel for refinishing faded bumpers, but does that wash out every time you wash the car?
Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I have read in the past that a Mondeo clutch (mines a '97 2.0 petrol estate) can be expected to last about 120k miles. Well, mine's on 119,600 at the moment and my palms are starting to sweat!
I'd be interested to know what sort of mileages are being achieved with Mondeo clutches - e.g. have all these 200plusk milers had a clutch change?
I've never experienced clutch failure on any of my past cars, but then I haven't had one for more than 60k. Is it a gradual thing (able to get home) - or a sudden catastrophic failure?

How many people know how main dealers operate, they set targets for their smooth talking service managers to basically rip people off , i.e charging 4 hrs labour for something like reprogramming a new ignition key which could be done by a good car locksmith in about 5 mins using the latest technology the same as the dealer, a small hand held device that plugs into the cars diagnostic socket Read more
Thommo,
lease companies also have to maintain their competitiveness within the market place which is pretty tight at present.
Our lease company which is in the top ten UK leasing companies has taken advantage of the EU legisation regarding block exemption and only refers warranty to work to a main dealer.
All other servicing is carried out by a local garage but to the manufacturers service schedule using OEM parts.
We're currently negotiating a discount on leasing costs as we expect some of the savings to be passed back to us.

Be careful Vauxhalls have a habit of not reading correctly at first to gain a correct reading leave overnight
Only the Diesel engines. Shouldn't be a problem with petrol engined Vauxhalls.

This company is situated not very far from where I live:
www.laptopbits.co.uk/Database_files/Compaq_Evo_Lap...m
That's the link to Compaq Evo spares including batteries.
I also provided a link in an earlier CRQ volume re Toshiba laptop batteries to a specialist firm that sold laptop spare parts - perhaps someone will remember asking the original question?
Same firm's link to CMOS batteries:

Just found the other source I mentioned being in a previous CRQ volume:

Anyone got any experiances of using them? I have a stone chip which is now a 5 inch long crack just above the passenger wiper blade. Would they replace the windscreen? Interested to know if there is anything I should watch out for or check.
I have rain and light sensors in the screen. They would'nt offer me a mobile fitting cos of the cold weather.
Cheers. Read more
I needed replacement on my SEAT Leon a couple of weeks ago - and my insurers directed me to the RAC who did the work at their Salford Branch.
I was happy with the standard of the work - no marks or mess inside or out on the car and quick, friendly, efficient service.
Looked fine when i picked it up, I didn't think to thoroughly check the glass until i read this thread. Had good a look now, I too got one branded 'Guardian' like the other SEAT owner who replied.
I honestly can't see any difference between the replacement and my original, if anything it looks better. (maybe just because it is very clean)

nah, an alternator can go "spikey" enough to blow bulbs but not enough to overcharge battery.
