Hi all
Me again
Another thing I have noticed especailly in third and fourth gear when crusing along gently at around 1500 rev the car shudders. Usually pressing the accltor pedal or knocking down a gear solves the problem. Ive had another Audi 80 TDi before and that was smooth when cruising.
I was told redex diesel treatment may solve it...have used it but no differnce!
Any suggestion at what it could be and approx repair costs???

Hi all,
I am new to this so here goes:
I have recently bought an Audi 80 TDi 1994 M reg. When driving the car, espcecially when going round sharp bends or when im turning the steering allot the front wheel feels as though it is slipping or spinning on its own accord. what could this be? I have also noticed when you put your foot down when the car is in standstill the wheel will spin more than the right wheel and the car will pull slightly to the left...but this is only when you put your foot down like a drag racer.
Does anyone know what it could be and how much it would cost?
Any info would help.

Sounds like a tyre problem..Could be Damper but should show up on tyre tread as feathering.Ie high/low spots within several CM`s all around tyre.Unless of course you are using excessive acceleration?

I'm shortly leaving the UK to work in California for a couple of years.
Whilst the thought of cheap cars and even cheaper petrol is nice, I'm having nightmares about insurance.
Will my fourteen years of incident free motoring in the UK be considered by US insurers or am I going to be in the same risk category as a newly qualified sixteen year old who only had to drive round the block once to get his license?
Anyone here have any relevant experience?
Thanks,
Grum. Read more

I can't remember what documentation they asked for but you're right, it took less than 15 minutes to get SS numbers for myself and the wife at an out-of-town SS office (the queues at downtown offices can be quite long.) US bureaucracy revolves around them so once you've got one it makes opening bank accounts, getting phones/cable etc. much easier.
A drivers license or ID card is even easier to obtain and is virtually impossible to live without.
Want to join a video rental store? - No way without US ID.
Want to hire a car? - Passport and foreign license needed.
Want to get an internal flight? - Passport required.
Proof of age to buy liquor in a store or bar - Passport required.
Even Border Patrol have accepted mine as proof of residence when I've nipped over to Mexico for a night out.

I am convinced that our Megane gives us about 4 to 5 mpg more when running on french diesel. In the UK I generally use BP or Texaco and average 50mpg. In France I fill up with whatever is convenient at the time at we seem to average 55mpg.
Driving conditions are similar, length of journeys perhaps a bit longer.
A friend reckons it may be because the french may put more sulphur in their diesel, is this true? Read more
"Does that mean my logic wins?"
Not quite - I said the same at 20.20 last night! :)

Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
On the way into work this morning, arrive at junction in town centre to see a wheel & tyre lying in the middle of the next lane.
As a rather unhappy looking lady goes to retrieve the wheel, I notice she is walking away from a three-wheeled hyundoo getiz or similar small thing, sat at a very uncomfortable angle. When she picked the wheel up, I could see that the brake drum was still attached to the wheel, and I could see the clean, bright, inside end of four wheelnuts poking through (or the bright spots where four wheel nuts/studs had all suddenly sheared simoultaneously.
What could have caused such a catastrophic failure ?

My Xantia, and some of the BX's before it had a big, red STOP light which came on if something critical happened. It worked, on one of the BX's the cam oil seal failed, the level dropped, the STOP light came on, with a secondary light for oil pressure, and SHMBO stopped. That simple light saved the engine.
Taken from the Scotsman:
Edinburgh residents have rejected the city council's plans for congestion charging.
The £2 charge was overhwelmingly rejected in the referendum, which attracted a 61% turnout
133,000 people voted against the council's plans, with just 46,000 in favour.
Council chiefs had claimed the tolls would reduce congestion and pollution in the city and provide £760m for ambitious public transport schemes including a tram system.
Opponents of the charge claimed traffic would be forced on to streets surrounding the toll area and damage business in city-centre shops.

Well, the next time I fancy a weekend break I will be heading towards Edinburgh instead of London! Not that there was much inclination to head towards London anyway...
I live in Durham and now head away from the city to do my shopping - I'll drive several miles out of my area because of our alleged 'congestion' charging scheme.
The Highways Agency have littered the motorways with expensive display signs but I wonder why. Came along the M6 last night from the start at Catthorpe and the signs, except the M6 Tollroad Clear, all said gritting in progress. And what didn't we see, any gritting. Just as we left at the M54 junction they did actually mention that the road was blocked between Junctions 15 and 16 but why not before then? Read more
I've long suspected that the Highways Agency (and similar)was staffed by ex British Rail personnel. This is yet another instance to back up my theory!
National tyres do cheap oil changes for cars, do you know anywhere that does a similar deal for diessel cars (hdi picasso)
i used to do it myself but it was always on petrol cars, then with the national deal it wasnt worth doing it yourself just take it there every year.
does anyone have any ideas who does a similar sort of thing Read more
An oil change is much the same process whatever the fuel, though the diesel specific oil may affect the price. Given the number of diesels on the road I'd be surprised if another fast fit won't do it even if National exclude oil burners.
Failing that does the local Citroen franchise have a fast fit bay - CD Bramall in Northampton certainly do.
Last night I thought I saw an emergency vehicle in my rear-view mirror. I took a second look and it was a car with those Blue LEDs on its windscreen washers.
Are LEDs classified as lights? If so quite a few peole are breaking the law. Read more
Blue, green, pink, orange, flashing (in the purest sense of that word ;+), strobe lights, here we've got 'em all.
The fashion for blue indicator lights is disturbing though. At night they're OK but in the day in bright sunshine they are all but invisible. Then again no self-respecting Filipino uses indicators -- it gives the game away and you lose the advantage.....
i've had a couple of these in the workshop with this problem and both times it turned out to be a worn injector pump. what milage has yours done?
