My son lives in Sheffield, I live in Kent. He knows nothing about cars. He bought a 2002 Clio 1.4 petrol saloon. He had some trouble starting it but now the battery is flat. Not a glimmer from it. The car has stood immobile now for 3 months. I am coming to visit and he wants me to bring some tools and a new battery..
I am wondering if I replace the battery and the fault is elsewhere the new battery will simply drain. Has anyone any ideas of any particular fault with Renault clio's or could it be just an old battery worn out by age and recent overuse for starting problems. Comments please a sap because I am setting off in an hour. Cheers Concrete Read more

What keys come with a 2004 Ford Focus Ghia. Regards Peter Read more
Ford supplied keys will vary with level of trim and whether the car is fitted with alarm, double locking and so on.
After looking at various posts, I have come the conclusion that trip computers generally seem to be out by up to 10%. I therefore think there must be a fault with my trip computer MPG reading! I have owned and driven the car for nearly 3 months and reset the overall average 3 times. I do mixed A/B roads, not much stop/start (rural Cornwall). Commute is 18 miles to work each day, but drive weekends with longer journeys currently averaging overall 280 miles a week. My cars average real life MPG (Honest John) is supposed to be 49. My reading fluctuates between 58.9 and 58.7. I have run the car only on Shell V Power diesel since owning it and have done way over 2k miles with this fuel. The car has been properly serviced and maintained by the book and has 60k miles on it. I have not done a proper brim to empty test yet, but wondered if other people's trip computer MPG's are as way out as what mine seems to be? Read more
I had one of these cars for three years as a company car doing 700-800 miles per week and kept brim to brim records for every drop of fuel I put in it. Over 110667 miles it averaged 51.3mpg running on the cheapest supermarket diesel I could find. When I got the car the the fuel consumption meter was about 12% optimistic. I mentioned this to the VW dealer at its first service (18000 miles) and they responded that it was not an accurate device but meant to give an approximate guide as to fuel use. I accept this, but said to them that 2-3 mpg out was reasonable but I thought 5-6 mpg over the top was excessive. I added that in my experience, electronic devices like this usually had a simple method to adjust calibration. They then agreed to consult VW but with no promise of improving it. The result was that from then on the reading almost exactly matched my brim to brim figures. So it can be done although I think it was pure luck that the code change they entered into my car's electronics gave the perfect answer.
I'm toying with the idea of a "higher-ride" car. Mrs FP likes the idea a lot and we like the shape of the current Sportage; what little feedback we've been able to gather seems positive.
I've pretty much set my face against diesel, so that leaves the 1.6 petrol engine. (1.6 GDI,130bhp). At the moment I'm driving a 2-litre petrol Ford Focus (142 bhp) and enjoy the little extra power that has in reserve. The two cars, according to HJ's "real mpg" achieve about the same economy in real life, but I'm wondering if the Kia is going to seem a bit underpowered.... Read more
Sassanyong Tivoli is underrated.
Hi can anyone tell me does a 07 Kia Sportage 2.0 crdi engine get removed from the top or does it have to be taken out from the bottom?

At present, I've owned a Micra for 10 years now. I'm going up to a Note as the Specs and the extra leg room for passengers appeals to me. The Nissan dealer is having a 2012 1.4 N-Tec petrol brought over from a different branch this coming Thursday 21st April. Cost: £6995 and 20k on the clock. We'll get about £450 off from our Micra 2004 66k miles. Which, knocks it all down to 6.5K.
Since reading that this site, and like the Micra, have chain cam belts and slightly less extra on our insurance... I was wondering if it sounds a decent buy? I know there's always going to be a bit extra from a main dealer but, I like the idea of buying from them rather than backstreet dealers or privately.
Thanks in advance for any answers. Read more
i would not want to pay more than £5.5k

Hi there, I am thinking of upgrading my car to a newer/less milage model and am undecided between the Audi & BMW. I currently have an Audi A3 54 reg, and although I like the A3, part of me would like a change as this is my 2nd A3. I am wondering whether to consider a BMW 1 series. Any thoughts/reviews or feedback would be great!
Many thanks! Read more
When Audi made the A3 Sportback 5 door they did at least realise that if it had five doors the rear seat passengers would need legroom, so it is longer than the three door.
When BMW made the 1 series I don't think they expected anyone to use the rear seats as despite having five doors rear leg and shoulder room is woeful. Friends have one. We can't go out as a five despite one of the five being a child....
I have a 2014 Honda CRV V-TEC Auto which I think has developed an intermittent fault with the electric windows. After locking the car by the remote key and walked away, I come back and find all the windows have wound down half way. Not only is this a security hazard, but if it rains I have found all the seats wet. Ash Honda(Yeovil) can't reproduce the fault, and imply it happens because I must have pressed and held down the unlock key for a period (quite long)which causes the windows to wind down. I know this is not the case because I have no reason to unlock the car after I have parked it and walked away. It has happened on too many occasions to be a coincidence. How can I convince Honda it is not just a silly old duffer who doesn't know his car ! What is the purpose of this useless gimmick anyway? Any ideas ?

Its possible the remote is out of sync with the windows and locking system, you could try looking at the CRV forum for the sequence to reset it.
if not ask Honda to sync it for you as the sync process has to be repeated about 4 or 5 times...
I am interested in a new Superb 1.4 DSG Petrol, SE trim. I have only been able to test drive a Diesel 2.0 DSG in SE L Executive trim.
It seems that no local (100 mile radius) midlands dealers (and very few national) have anything other than Diesel SEL's for test drive. Problem is also that these SEL's have 18" wheels and adjustable suspension. I would prefer 17" on the SE for assumed comfort and extra quietness, but I cannot test drive one with a 1.4 DSG engine (or any other engine!). (It doesn't matter if hatch or estate).... Read more
They also hope people will buy the ones they've test-driven - i.e. the top-of-the-range versions - as the profit margins are greater on these.
Hello everyone, thanks for all the contributions. All the checks were done and the battery replaced and the car is up and running again.
Thank you all, especially elekiea/cdoctor so we could source the right tools....
