Morning Fellow Backroomers. Hope there are some suggestioons out there.
I changed my cambelt yesterday, all timing cogs marked up properly so as to keep the same position etc and when all was put together again with the new belt in place, the engine was started and the sound is not the same.
Normally a very smooth engine but now I have ticking from the fuel pump area. I suspect that I overtightened the tensioner so the fuel pump cog has moved slightly out of alignment. The engine now sounds like a Transit Van. The car drives OK, no problems there but power does seem a little down.
Any ideas if my thought is correct, if not does anyone have a potential cure / other ideas
Please do return for more information if needed.
Many thanks in advance.
Christopher

You don't see that many rental Audi / Lexus / Honda / Mercedes.
Does that mean that low-mileage used cars from these manufacturers really are likely to be
ex-manager or ex-demo?
Ex-rental Mercs and Audis exist, as they are often in the rental companies 'presitige selection' or whatever, and cars like the A-Class or A3 tend to be popular courtesy cars at dealers/ bodyshops.
Havent a clue about Lexus as they are a very low volume manfacutrer these days
Honda are no different to the likes of VW or Toyota, there cars can be used as daily renters.
Greetings comrades & Afendi's ... I eventually purchased a Digihome 80GB Freeview recorder from eBuyer/eBay and found it really excellent for the money (£40) but ... (1) I can't be living with that flippin fan (2) The recordings suffer from what I would call mis-fires (drop-outs?) sort of jumps now and again, so - I'll send the critter back manana.
I've been having a look @ DVD recorders and I quite fancy a 'graded' Panasonic DMR-EZ27 and was wondering what backroomers thought of this machine? Read more
Primrose hill looks ideal it is a bit close but I haven't got the time to go
to far as I won't be able to cram in other bits.
Rattle, it's up to you how far you want to go, but Hamsptead isn't that far from Euston. The journey only takes 10 minutes on the tube.
The service book says to use either 5/30 or 10/30. Chevrolet dealer has sold me 10/40 saying thats Ok for this engine.
Coments appreciated if it makes any real difference?
Thank you Read more
My local motor factor's oil supplier says 5w-30 www.commaoil.com/.
There's probably not a lot of difference as long as you make sure it meets the spec in your handbook.
My key stopped remotely locking a few days ago, as car is three yrs old I thought the battery was expired. I got the relevant battery and fitted the replacement however there is still no life in it. Locks work fine with the key inserted, do I need to get the key re-codedin some way by ford dealer? thanks for any help

It certainly used to be in the handbook but I agree that my current Ford makes no mention of it-the code is lost if you take more than a few minutes to change the battery.

Hiya,
Disclaimer: sorry if it sounds like a daft question!
How do I find what the tyre pressure ought to be?
Normally I'd check the user manual, but there isnt one (at least, not that I've found so far), and I want to make sure the tyres are at the right pressure.
I've googled tyre pressures, thinking I'd find a site somewhere that would tell me for each size etc of tyre what the pressure ought to be, but no luck, and googled the make and model of tyre too.
They are 235 45 z17 on the front
and 255 40 z17 on the rear

If it's got non-standard wheels and tyres, have you informed your insurance company?
I hate to be a killjoy, but if they can worm their way out of a claim, for whatever reason, they will.
I just noticed that the radio in my car has stopped working. When I switched off the car and removed the key from the ignition, the LED or background lights on the radio and clock temperature is still on. No recent modifications or no warning lights. Just radio not working and lights stay on. This will run down my battery. HELP! Read more

Hi
I'm planning on selling my Touran, either through BCA's Sure Sell scheme or using www.webuyanycar.com. The latter have offered me £15k via the website and I would have to drop off in Cardiff and pay them a £50 admin fee. I can't see them haggling as there's nothing to haggle over. It's in pristine condition, honest!
If I sell through Sure-Sell then I would have to pay them roughly £500 fees in order to put it through the auction. Would it be worth my while doing this in the hope I'd get at least £15.5k?
How much of a margin would webuyanycar factor into the price they have offered for mine? Not quite aure how they operate, apart from they're the buying arm of one of the large supermarkets I think.
Also, my nearest auction house is in Cardiff, would I get a better price for mine at one of the bigger auctions, ie. Blackbushe comes to mind.
Also, my tax runs out the end of the month, so I'm planning to get rid pretty sharpish and hope I don't have to pay for tax - though it would be around £80 for 6 months so not quite as bad as it could be.
thanks
valmiki

Just wanted to provide some feedback to the posters who replied, I advertised in Auto Trader at £16,750 10 days ago and have just accepted an offer of £16,500 from a private buyer so I'm well chuffed!
Proved me wrong, there are people willing to travel. Considering I paid £19k one year ago, I think the 2.5k depreciation is excellent - my friends still don't believe it ;-)
Just followed a pop-up to the Volvo site and found that I can now order my tonne-and-three-quarters of V70 with the DRIVe package and the 1.6D engine from the C30. I'm intrigued - not so much because I'd rather have this engine than a D5 in a V70, but that Volvo seems to think it's a viable combination.
Is this merely Volvo's attempt to counterbalance the effect of all those XC90s on its average CO 2 value - i.e. all for show and not seriously expected to sell - or should those to whom the V70 represents family motoring nirvana be rushing to place their (all right, our) orders now?
I may just have to ask my local Volvo shop if they have one I can try. Haven't test-driven anything for a year and a half and there'd certainly be points to look for in this one. Read more
Peugeot and Citroen have been offering this engine in the C5 and 407 for years. I can't believe a 407 weighs much more or carries much more than a V70 and it seems to work OK and sell in large number if not exactly setting the world alight.
I'd agree with some other posters that I've always found the 2.0d V50 pretty rubbish. Apart from needing a £1000 service at 75k to replaced the particulate filter it simply isn't economical enough using more fuel in pretty much all circumstances than the D5 version.
I don't really agree that it's plainly a mechanical noise of something dropped where it shouldn't have - the user complained of power loss too. The ignition timing has got nothing to do since as correctly pointed out the timing is not done by the pump but by the ECU according to cam / crank position sensors. Did you change the timing belt tensioner? That should be changed everytime with the belt and might be gone. Also, don't ask me why, sometimes water pumps fail with the timing belt. VW's sell you a whole kit including a water pump in fact! However what i suspect most is incorrect valve timing. Are you sure the dents and marks were all aligned? I fear the sound you are hearing is valves slightly striking pistons!
