I missed the coverage of the IoM TT earlier in June. I am not a motorcycle enthuisiast, but previous coverage, whilst waiting to watch F1 was unbelievable. I was on the edge of the sofa!!

This afternoon I was driving along a straight road with a national speed limit, behind 3 or 4 cars doing about 35mph. There was a large gap ahead, so I decided to overtake the rear car, as I was nearly past the car (about 2/3 of my car was in front) I noticed that the cars in front were accelerating, and so was the car behind. I carried on, and gradually realised that I could not pull in as he was preventing me, and that I was soon approaching a blind bend and it was about to get extremely dangerous. I slowed, and pulled in behind him. On that day luck was on my side, as just before I pulled back in I was on the wrong side of the road, and dangerously close to a blind bend. IMO someone could have been killed.

The main problem for me was that his behaviour was totally unexpected. I wasted seconds trying in vein to clear his car, and then more seconds gradually realising that he was basically racing me, and that I was in considerable danger

A few miles down the road, the traffic had come to a stop. I got out, approached his car, his window was partly down, and I said "could I have a word with you". He wound the window down further. I said "Did you see me overtaking you?" He said "Yes". I said "Did you try to prevent me pulling back in". He said "Yes". I said "By preventing me pulling in, you endangered me and other road users". He said "I don't care you shouldn't have overtaken me". I then said "You are a complete halfwit" a couple of times, except the word was not exactly halfwit, and walked away. I don't really understand the mentality. He was young, and a risk taker judging by the driving I witnessed a few miles later on.

Has anyone else experienced this? It rather frightens me the idea that someone would prevent an otherwise safe overtake. It suggests to me that in order to overtake, you need not just space to clear the other vehicle, but extra 'nutter' space. Read more

Thinking of going over to France for 7 days sometime during the first 2 weeks in July (Scottish school holidays). I have been on various websites, chez-nous etc but can anyone recommend either a villa type place, or even a static caravan maybe within 2-3 hours max of the Channel Tunnel? Preferably one wyou have stayed at before, say less than £500 for the week?

Also re the tunnel, they seem to do some very good prices if you are travelling midweek out of normal hours eg £40 odd quid I think between midnight and 6am. Unless anyone knows of a cheap way of getting normal times booked?

Its been about 4 years since I have driven in France, having previously went all the way down to Languedoc and loved every minute of it. However only being there for a week this time, thinking of closer to the tunnel.

Also, does anyone know if I pay extra on the tunnel if I have a towbar mounted cycle carrier with 4 bikes on it?

As usual, any help / input appreciated.

I have a Citroen C5 hdi 2001 model. occasionally the computer flags up "Anti-pollution Fault". When taken to the garage and connected to the magic machine it indicates a fault with the fuel pressure switch. However, once the computer is re-set the car runs normally until the next time. This last happened a year ago, and has recently happened again.
Any clues??

Hi there, im new to all this and am a BMW tech by trade but have recently purchased my parents a low milage 2003 citroen c5 2.0 hdi, and surprise surprise after a week of owning it there has been a coolant temp to high fault ( that ive fixed with a simple sensor!) and the anti polution fault comes on when the car is driven from cold. car runs in limp home mode when the warning is shown but turn the car off and within a few seconds of starting it again the fault clears, i have scanned the obd and there are no faults stored, this car however has covered 16000 miles in the last 5 years by an 80 year old chap just going to the shop or the garden centre etc, any help would be much appreceated,

Ok, I probably should have posted this on 'Technical', sorry!

Can anyone confirm the correct CO2 emissions figure for the current Nissan Navara 6Spd Manual?

HJ review suggests it's 226g/km, as does Clarkson in a Times review and one in the Torygraph.

Nissan e-brochure says it is 264g/km (which means I can't have one!!) Read more

I was curious about this too. So I used the reg from a 06 plated one and am informed by the DVLA website the emissions are 0g/Km and VED is £175 a year. Which is odd.

Might get one myself now, instead of a Ford Transit Connect.

not much has changed, the only thing to really remmember is to not reverse the brake fluid back to the m/cyl, I clamp the pipe (flexi) open bleed nipple and return the pistons as far in as they can go, close nipple remove clamp replace the pads after cleaning pad carrier and reassemble then pump brake until hard (try not to push more than halfway ( can cause problems with seals flipping, debris etc) onto the rears if they are pads and disc's at the rear you will need a tool to rewind the pistons back into the caliper, the pistons have two/four slots in them to facilitate this, you may find that the pad has a lug on the metal back for the piston to locate on so make sure that they are alligned don't forget to clamp the pipe when you wind them back and a half pump on the pedal (till hard) when you have finnished, both pistons on this vehicle (rear) will rotate clockwise , any other questions i will try to answer

As mentioned above, the throttle body settings are lost when you disconnect the battery - an appalling piece of design in my opinion............ It'll run like a dog afterwards. There's a theory that it should relearn the settings over the next few journeys but mine didn't seem to.

You can perform a 'throttle body adaptation' procedure to relearn using the VAG-COM software. A version of the software can be downloaded for free though you'll need the necessary cable and a PC to use it (or a friend/mechanic with the same). My cable was about £20 on Ebay.

My MAF sensor was knackered - though not due to a oiled air filter. The symptoms were a strange hesitancy at about 3000rpm. Eventually it wouldn't rev past 4500 at all. I diagnosed it by disconnecting the MAF sensor. The car ran like a dream again except for a lumpy idle. I tried to clean it using pure alcohol as per various forums but without success. An exchange was about £75 from the VW dealer. It's about 1/2 an hour to replace it.

Selenia 20K 10w 40 - 5 litres = £31.73 !!!!

I've googled "selenia 20K" and "Selenia 20K £31.73" and found some people claiming they think the oil is well worth the money, they can "feel" the car is better etc but beccomes sluggish after 8K miles!

I don't see how anyone can be so sensitive as to be able to tell any difference in the cars performance from using one oil from another.

As long as the oil passes API SL it should be ok.

I use Castrol Magnatec 10w 40. Who has any opinion on why I should spend more and use Selenia? Read more

I find Selenia 20k handy as it comes in 5lt.tins,exactly enough for my Coupe. It can be expensive to buy 4lts in Halfords etc.,then have to buy an extra litre at inflated prices.

I have just bought my first car with bi-xenon headlamps - a 2004 model Saab 9-5. Although I am currently asking Saab UK about how to adjust them for continental use, I'm expecting that they will just suggest lowering them. This doesn't seem very satisfactory TBH, as the lighting will then be barely adequate (inadequate, IMHO) for safe motoring. IIRC some cars can be adjusted (usually dealer only) to adjust the asymetric beam from RHD to LHD, usually by dealers at a silly price.

How do other backroomers deal with this? Read more
