I'm experiencing a judder between 2200 and 2700rpm (roughly). It occurs on light throttle and is most noticeable at motorway speeds (70-80 mph).

It feels like the car slows down, then speeds up again slightly and sometimes it judders in waves, which always occurs at about 2500rpm. It still does it when the cruise control is engaged, but not as badly. This is probably due to the ECU counteracting the loss in power by adding more fuel and 'smoothing out' the problem.

It's done nearly 70k miles and has recently had a new turbo fitted (old one went blew a seal and dumped oil out of the exhaust) and the garage who changed the turbo nd fitted a new exhaust, said that they had fitted a new EGR valve, but I'm not 100% sure if this was done. It has also had a custom remap, but this was fine before the turbo went pop.

I've tried cleaning the MAF with Isopropanol, which didn't cure it, but the hesitation feels almost like a MAF fault, as if it is telling the ECU that there is more air getting in than actually is and less fuel is consequently injected.

Anyone got any suggestions for other potential causes?

Turbos don't have oil seals in the conventional sense, so they can't "blow" unless there's a build-up of pressure in the crankcase[??] Escaping air usually means a failed ducting hoseclip or a bulged/split intercooler [a Laguna DCi speciality.] That might fit your odd symptom. Look for leaking oil mist traces. An intake leak, causing a turbo overspeed, might be a very likely reason for the initial turbo failure.

The Toledo is sounding a bit like a non-serviced Endura engine all of a sudden!

Oil is OK, bang on maximum. Weird thing is, with the windows open it sounds OK, but with them closed and nothing on you can really hear that typical valve train noise (I don't know if it is VT related, it's just the closest noise match)

I believe it has hydraulic valve lifters (Is that the right term?)

Had the timing belt done a while back but I remember from my Peugeot days that something TB related can also make a noise like this...

Any ideas? Read more

Cool - thanks Big John!

Citroen UK have an excellent warranty offer on until 18th August, called Citroen Advantage.

Any Citroen up to three years old can have its warranty extended by 1 year for only £179. Normal cost £450. Seems like a no-brainer to me, so I have signed up for our C8.

We had a mailing from a dealer (not our regular one) about it, who are also offering to pay double this premium back to us if we 'change' our car at their garage. Makes the possible C6 slightly more realistic. Read more

I can get 1500 off nearly any 15 grand car. That level of discount is about right for a brand new to the market car. Specially french.

Ok Guys, BBC News claims its the 25th aniversary of (then illegal) CB radio. I remember fitting my rig in the Fiat 131 about 1980, with a single short aerial disguised (badly) to look like a regular car aerial. By 1981 I know I was importing the infamous Jaws2 rig in numbers (a super tiny little rig - easy to hide) and selling down the meets at the watering holes.

So were they right? is 1981 the birth of UK CB radio

Just to drag this thread back towards Earth (but thanks for the lyrics, I once saw Convoy dubbed into French for TV, it was enough to make you cry with laughing).
French car boot sales usually feature a few odd rigs for 20-30 euros and when I went on a 4x4 rally with a pal last year most people seemed to have CB to keep in touch when off road. But does anybody else use it any more?
I have a pair of brand new Logicom 'talkie walkies' (as the French insist on calling them) that I've never taken out of the packing. They claim a range of about 5km (3 miles). Is this what people use now?

I recently bought an Audi S4 avant 2001(6 days ag0), one owner from an independant Audi specialist . The car was HPI clear and no obvious problems.

I polished the car at the weekend and noticed that there were "rust pimples" coming through on the bottoms of all four doors and also the two rear wings.

I took the car to a VAG approved bodyshop who tested the paintwork with an Elcometer and the measures were fine. However, the Manager was sure that the car had had paintwork on it as the car "was to clean" for a 5 year old car with 49k on clock (Surely that is no reason to say that a car has had work undertaken?). Therefore, the car would not be covered by Audi's 12 year Anti Corrosion Warranty.

Am I within my rights to give the car back and ask for a refund? I paid top money for the car as the car looked mint and was from a leading independant.

Or should I be taking this up with Audi UK? Read more

You didn't happen to see the paint thickness readings did you? I would expect a factory paint job to be around 100-120 microns or so. over that would sugest that the car has had some paint work carried out.

The 2001 Audi A4 is a clever car it tells on the display(spanner icon) the time/miles to its next service. But how does it know when oil, filters, brake fluid etc., have been changed?

And what does it mean when the display shows 'dashes' for time and miles not any figures?

From page 21 of the handbook.

Now that all you kind people have sorted out the best way for Martyminx to park in London, does anyone have any good advice regarding long term parking at, or in the vicinity of, Bournemouth Airport for a week at the end of this month please.

All serious suggestions would be very welcome, thank you.

Thank you very much indeed, Ffidrac, your input is very much appreciated. No advance booking necessary apparently at the "official car park" at £45 per week, and we will see if anyone with local knowledge has anything to offer on the "unofficial" front.

PS Just back from a wonderful two weeks in Nantucket and noted with interest at the ferry port of Hyannis that just about every garden near the ferry dock was given over to small-scale car parking!

I've done a forum search (but not too far back, as the technology is no doubt changing) but do any of you have experience of a decent bluetooth hands free kit?

I'm not looking for the silly earpiece; I'm looking for a proper hands-free kit. If there's one out there that will mute my radio, etc, even better.

I know I could find one with a google search, but I'm looking for personal experiences.
