Can anyone enlighten me on this? I have seen a classified that describes the car as being a category D repair and hence heavily discounted. Should I avoid at all costs? Read more

One of the 'Wrecks to Riches' programmes ....

The Vauxhall VX220 they did up in that programme is for sale on the site I posted above.

Both of my keys have ceased to lock the car (they both open it - at least for now). Can they be mended by splitting the cards or would this ruin them? Is there a Midlands Renault dealer who won't rip me off to sell and code a new one?

I ordered 2 new keys for my laguna and paid up front. When they have tried to configure they have said the card reader in the car is not working and so they can't code the keys and have advised I need a new card reader costing over £300.

I've always been a Michelin man. Until now, anyway. I am, however, thinking of getting Toyo tyres for my Ford Ka.

They came with Kleber Viaxer (165/65R13) as oem. When the front tyres needed replacing, I put on Michelin Energy, without giving the matter much thought.

However, I've always felt that the braking on the Ka was pretty poor, and I reckoned that one way I might improve the braking was to put on tyres which had better braking. I looked at the Auto Express tyre test 2005 (see their website) and Toyo seemed to come top for braking. (3rd for wet braking, 4th for dry braking).

So - should I go for it and put on Toyos this time?

Just a note of caution on the EBC brake pads - fit the normal road pads, not the "Green Stuff". The latter will wear your discs down faster.

Hi there,

Can any one tell me exactly what does it mean when you see car advertised as a V car?

I guess if I know what a V Car actually is, then I will probably answer my next question myself....what are the risks or buying one and why are cheaper than other cars......

I can not seem find this info.....

Many Thanks

"It safe to tow an automatic as long as the gear selector is in Neutral" Can anyone please advise if this is so?

I have already used the site search function, where all posts seem to relate to automatics being used for towing trailers/caravans, not to the car itself being towed.

Given the dire warnings issued by some manufacturers about towing an automatic over any distance or at any speed, some clarification would be appreciated.

This enquiry relates to automatics in general, torque converter or CVT, however if a specific vehicle is required, the car in question is a 1.4 Astra auto.

Thank you, Pete. Read more

Rover SD1 manual used to specify disconnecting the driveshaft from the back axle or, failing that, adding extra ATF and not exceeding the speed and distance limits Dave quotes above.

The SD1 was fitted with a Borg-Warner or, on later models, a GM autobox.

I was looking at some oil in makro the other day
and it clearly states on the back "recommended for all VW
diesels".If you talk to a mechanic at a VAG agencents he
will put you in the picture of how not to get
conned with oil.

If you want to put the wrong oil in your own VW, then fair enough. But you should not tell people to copy your example and then they might have a wrecked engine.

On Pumpe Duise VW engines you must use either 505.01, 506.01 or 507.00, whatever it says in Makro.

Hi,
I recently (2 weeks ago) collected a car I bought from a main dealer the advert stated 1 owner (I still have a copy) and once I had done the deal I checked some details from the advert with the sales guy, one of which was the amount of owners, his reply was ?yes one previous owner?.
Yesterday I got the V5 through the post and it shows 2 owners plus me.
The car is only 20 months old and I did get a good deal but feel that the dealer misled me.
Will the fact that the car has had an extra owner reduce its value?
What options do I have with regards to the dealer?
Many thanks in advance for your advice.

Update.

Thanks for the advice, I called the dealer and explained the situation and he offered me £200 back which makes the deal I got fantastic.

Any decent motor factor will be able to specify and supply the correct quality and grade of oil.

You don't need to use Vw oil; don't forget they dont make their own, they buy it in and put their name on it; same as all car assemblers!

I hit a Ford Focus while turning on Friday, in the front nearside wing. Being a decent chap I left a note with phone number, and he's finally got back to me today.

It has a pretty small dent, but has moved/been bent I think. Amazing the damage 2mph can do.

What sort of cost will this be to fix do you imagine? Read more

All depends how you hit it I guess. My Uncle's got a Mitsubishi L200 and backed it into an Audi 80. The entire back of his tailgate is stoved in but the Audi 80 just has a broken indicator!

Hi - I have a 98 passat which seems to have developed a problem with water saturating the rear passanger-side footwell when it rains. I have inspected the door seal and there no signs of a leak, the car has never been involved in an accident, and all other areas of the car remain dry.

A friend has suggested it may have something to do with the air-con heater outlet beneath the seat. But if so, why would the problem not occur with other heater outlets?

Any ideas appreciated. Read more

That was around the price VW wanted to charge me.
I got a substantial discount after complaining to VW UK. Car was ony 4 months out of warranty.
Even for a '98 car, if the garage was negligent in its servicing, you may have some justification for a large discount if care was not taken. Or not.
