Ford Mondeo (2007 - 2015)
2.2 tdci 175bhp Titanium X
Fantastic drive, big, safe family car that can do it all.
I bought this car after reading as many reviews as i could find, i couldn't find a bad report anywhere. It's not perfect but then no car is. Initially I was looking for an estate version but after i saw the size of the boot on the hatch back i decided it was more than big enough, it's huge! Loads of room inside, i'm 6'4" and it's one of the few cars that i don't need the seat all the way back. Plenty of head and legroom in the rear as well.
Being the Titanium X it comes with all the goodies (cruise, heated seats, leccy windows, Sony sound system with 6 disc CD changer) The car is very pleasing to the eye inside with half leather seats and leather trim on the doors. It has lots of little chrome and titanium bits as well, overall a very nicely designed car on the inside.
How the car drives is the best bit, for such a big car it handles fantastically well. The steering is very direct making the car feel very agile, on a windy road it can be hustled along very nicely. I once drove from Oban to Glasgow at night in heavy driving rain in under 2 hours, not driving recklessly, just fast safe progress overtaking where i needed to and the car never felt anything but secure and sure footed. Overtaking is made easy by the 2.2 engine, it's a peach! Put your foot down in 3rd and it'll pull from 1000rpm to the redline with no hesitation. The brakes are an improvement over the mk3 Mondeo with a bit more initial bite. Handling is very good with little body roll in the corners, but you are aware you are driving a very big car (in this sense the mk3 is nicer to drive).
Good points-
Great to drive, clutch, gearbox and brakes all nice to use.
Interior space
Very refined at speed makes it a great cruiser
Ride quality is very good even on 18 inch wheels
Feels very well put together
Huge boot
Heated windscreen
Wipers give one last sweep shortly after you turn them off (very useful)
Feels quite sporty
Reasonably quick
Additional turning lights are good
Bad points-
Can't seem to get more than 45mpg even cruising at 50-60mph
Fancy swivel projector headlights aren't that good (the mk3 lights were better)
Door mirrors seem to attract dirt
Water collects on the windows making it hard to see the dirty mirrors when it's raining
Chrome trim on air vents reflects in door mirrors
Chrome trim on gear lever is peeling off
A few niggly faults but overall a great car so far.
