Ford Fiesta (2008 - 2013)
Edge 1.4 TDCi 5dr Hatchback
Reliable and comfortable, good all-rounder. but...
Bought this car from a dealer an ex courtesy car with 10000 miles on, I wanted a small diesel for commuting on the motorway everyday, fuel consumption means a lot to me, at an official figure of 68mpg the Fiesta looked good but it cannot be achieved, I struggle to get 56mpg on a steady 70mph journey, I have a RAV 4 , a much bigger and heavier vehicle, that does 50mpg on the same run.
The steering on uneven roads can be very vague, it is too light and gives the car a mind of its own.
That said, on good roads and decent speeds it becomes a much sharper car, very nimble, quick, quiet and comfortable. It has no rattles or bits coming off, so build quality is very good.
Selecting reverse can be a problem, sometimes it just won't go in, so I have to either let the clutch up and try again or select a forward gear then try reverse.
Fords warranty is fairly poor compared to others but luckily with 30000 miles on the clock now I have had no problems and replaced only 2 front tyres at 22000 miles and had 2 services.
I still can't see a better alternative to a Fiesta but I'll keep looking.
