Ford Fiesta (2008 - 2013)
1.6 TDCI Econetic
Regular workhorse, some niggles but does the important things well.
I bought this from a main Ford dealer in May 2009. I was originally after an Ford Focus Econetic but they were as common as hens teeth and i needed a cheap to run car for motorway and fast A road work. The car bought was an ex Ford demonstrator with 3,500 on the clock. It now has 43,500. It is a 3 door version.
I started of doing a 74 miles per workig day return trip round the M25 round the North East quarter of the M25 and then up the A1M. My journey has recently doubled and as i pay for the fuel i am careful to get theo pay for the fuel I am careful to get the best out of it.
My normal speed is 65-70 and the trip computer thst was last set 6,000 odd miles ago shows 69.3 mpg at the mo. I cant comment on what you would get round town as nearly all my mileage is on fast roads.
Even though this is supposed to be an eco model it will definatly go if you want it to - very responsive and has top speed well over 100mph.
Very responsive steering, nice and crisp and very little body roll.
The Econetic is based on the Style + and it lacks some of the nicer cabin features. The door cards are a hard brittle plastic. Oddly the on board trip computer does not have real time fuel consumption figures. The MP3 jack is badly postioned between the the geat stick and handbrake apart from it being easy to dislodge it does not properly grip the 3.5mm jack lead.
My 3 door is hopeless for adults in the back on a long journey. However in my circumstances that is not an issue.
At work I sometimes drive the Vauxhall Corsa 1.5 diesel Eco.They are not in the same class - the Fiesta wins everytime.
Relabilty has been good. Manual door lock didnt work on delivery. The only big critiscm is the air filter should be changed at the 37,500 service. Mine was black by 20,000 and this does really affect the mpg. Just had new front pads and discs. Also Ford warranties do not stack up against others like Hyundai.
This is a quick little car. Not cut out as a family car in the three door version i have but if you are doing a fair bit of mileage on fast roads, can do without some creature comforts, and look at it as a day to day graftet you wont go to far wrong
