As it says on the tin, would you have it done for the few hundred quid they want or can perhaps bargain them down from or is it just another little earner for the dealer and not worth the lacquer it comes with ?

My feeling is it is worth it. I have an Isuzu D-Max overseas, new in 2007 and the paint (black) is quite badly market due to various abrasive substances and even washing and polishing by the car cleaners. Read more

I had starguard put on my SLK 4 years ago and I wouldn't bother again, don't know if it's comparable to Diamondbrite but I just wax it every so often now, I think a good waxing is going to offer plenty of pretection.

Im having a bit of a game with my immobiliser in that it sometimes cuts in and stops me starting up. It predominantly plays up in supermarket car parks ive noticed though not all the time. Initially I thought it was the boot after putting the shopping in there first without opening any other door first but it proved me wrong yesterday. There has been a couple of instances where Ive gone back to the car to get something out without turning the engine and gone back to it only to find it wont start. Ive reprogrammed the key and all the locks work fine with the remote.

Could it be cross interference with similar vehicles parked by or mobile phone/mast interference(last week I was parked right under a massive o2 mast and it played up). Ive spoke to Ford Servicing but as usual its a 'bring it in for us to look at' response... Read more

That problem sound like the one that hits my 2003 Fusion tdci about every 5-6 months, when it happens my remedy is to hand pump (well squeeze), the rubber fuel bleeder until it gets hard, which takes about 5 minutes and hey presto the car starts, I heard a few years ago that a shortage of fuel within the system can cause the immoblizer to kick in, now wether true or not, it always works in my case, and involves a lot less waiting around & leaving keys in the ignition.

Hopefully someone will be able to explain why it happens ?....

Problem sorted, it was a corroded wire within the immobiliser sytem, so the wire was replaced. reconnected and a software update run to clear all faults and restore system. The garage were great spent about five hours trying to source the problem, and couldn't so brought in a mobile auto electric specialist, but garage only charged for one hours labour of £45 and the specialist was £135, which i thought was reasonable.

Apologies if there is already a post about the dreaded ESP fault on the Ford Focus on here, I couldn't find any.

Dashboard message "ESP system fault" diagnosed with DTC C1288 -Faulty Pressure Sensor. Repair requires a replacement ABS "pump" for the princely sum of £1300. Fortunately I was aware of this fault (and repair cost) across a number of VW brands, thanks to this forum. Otherwise, I probably would have hit the roof when they told me!
I have absolutely no intention of letting Ford get away with this. It's just under 4 years old.... Read more

In short, if you are thinking of buying a car with an ABS or ESP fault please be aware that this isn't just appertaining to the Focus or indeed just Fords. There is a good chance it won't be a simple or cheap fix.

Good point. Thanks to over zealous european legislation, ALL new cars must be fitted with ABS and ESP whether or not the customer wants it. And they must be functional for the MOT.

Safety devices are never a substitute for careful driving-the laws of physics cannot be violated. Unfortunately, electronic wizardry can instil an entirely false sense of invincibilty....

A pity about DPF diesels. Brought to the market and sold to a largely unsuspecting public - and often unfit for the purpose of general use.

It seems a scandal of manufacturers using the customer to complete testing.... Read more

Hi

Can anyone help? My 04 Scenic has just had a service and MOT with new rear brake pads. The parking brake now doesn't work and I get the audible and dashboard warnings and the red light on the parking brake lever doesn't come on. The local garage have had it back 3 times and still can't fix it. I have now taken it to the Renault main dealer and they have said it needs a new motor costing £750. Is it a coincidence that the brake pads were fitted and now the parking brake doesn't work or is it that they haven't reset or pressed something. Any thoughts? Thanks. Read more

The electric parking brake was one thing that put me off buying another Renault.

It's all very well putting up with the customary failures of Renault interior lights, electric windows and sun roofs but you would NEVER trust their electricians on the brakes.

What are your experiences of using Tesco 99 octane fuel ?

Does Tesco 99 produce noticably more power/torque when compared with 95 octane fuel ?

Does Tesco 99 produce greater fuel economy on a like for like driving basis compared with 95 octane ?

Have you noticed any difference in the colour of your vehicles engine oil when using Tesco 99 ? (i.e. does it stay cleaner for longer or not)... Read more

Have tried Tesco 99 and V Power in my Mk6 Golf GTI and must say I can't tell any difference, either in power/torque or mpg.

I give it the odd tank of this stuff for its supposed "cleaning properties" but tend to stick to normal Shell the rest of the time. I just don't see how I can justify the higher price.
