Hi All
Just after some advice, put the car in for MOT and service last week with a garage we have used for a few years, the car for a few months has made a ticking noise, it sounds like a diesel, more so when starting it up and when stood stationary but it is noticable all the time. The mechanic has looked into it and says that a valve in the cam head is going due to the Astra's vast need for regular oil and it is a matter of time before the engine packs up for good, it could be days, weeks or months.......... he says the engine needs replacing and for a second hand engine fitted - quoted me £600. I am taking it elsewhere for a second opinion, any advice/or has someone seen this problem before?... Read more
Hi there, I'm having trouble with my t reg peugeot 206 automatic. When

I have often read of Dual Mass Flywheel failure, but never personally experienced it and I would like to continue not experiencing it.
Can any BR's give their personal tips / experience in avoiding DMF failure?... Read more
Thing is, I can tell when I'm stressing a vehicle with incorrect revs
With the greatest of respect you can't! You can tell when engine mounts and insulation are least effective and the most noise and vibration is transmitted to the cabin; driver perception doesn't necessarily corrospond to engine stress....
How much longer can I expect my 2003 1.4 zetec fiesta to last?
It has 140K; new brakes and cambelt at 90K and clutch at 130k. Its worth just under 2k and i ideally don't want to spend much more than £500 on any repairs. All is running fine for now as i do my own basic servicing (oil, filters, plugs etc), but i don't want to be stuck with a massive repair bill. I'm just after any advice from others of potential problems and costs i may encounter in the near future so i can budget for them or a replacement car.... Read more
If you can dit and buy good s/h parts then an old car can be run cheaply for decades.

I have a 2001 Astra 1.4 16v and it has developed what seems like a misfire problem.
The orange engine management light has come on permanently and when idling it seems to be running on just three cylinders. When driving the management light flashes under acceleration and there is a serious lack of power up to about 4000rpm when it seems better again.... Read more
I have a Vauxhall Astra Active 2006 1.4 Petrol car. I have just got it back from the garage unfixed.
It has had new sparks, coil pack and has had a compression test, the no.2 cylinder had 84% leakage and the no.3 cylinder 26%. The garage reckon that no.2 might be leaking into no.3....
Help! for I am slowly going nuts. I can't stop my wipers leaving a smear on my windscreen, a smear which instantly disappears when the wipers are switch off.
I have tried various glass cleaners, even white vinegar - none work. Cleaning the blades, which have just been replaced to try and solve the problem leaves an black mark on kitchen towel, a black mark, that no matter how may times I clean the blade does not diminish. Am I rubbing something away on the blade that I should not?... Read more
People think WD40 is oil based
I suggest you google WD40 contents. You'll see it's about 33% petroleum base oil. I wouldn't want to spray oil on my windscreen!

Hi there,
The depth of knowledge on the posts in this board is impressive so I'm hoping someone can help me out with a V5 question - which is basically, what parts of the V5 must a used car have to be legit?... Read more
Thanks everyone for your help with this. Bought the car, V5 is in the post to the DVLA, and confident that will be fine based upon your replies.
Hi
Looking for a replacement for my 51 plate Zafira - narrowed it down to a 56 / 07 Focus Estate, CMax , Octavia or another Zafira (not the most exciting drive but very practical and loads around). Is there much difference between Zafiras A & B ( talking a 1.6 Club) or is it basically a facelift?... Read more
I've had a Zafira B 1.9 Design (150bhp version) for the last 3 years. Absolutely love the driving position, the versatility the cabin offers, 20k mile servicing and the turn of speed when needed. It's now covered 49k miles and I'm thinking of changing it for a new one (perhaps Elite version - to get the full leather interior).

I'm very confused
I'm after something fun, yet slightly practical (basically back seats for the kids). I drove a 330i Auto Coupe yesterday. Brilliant engine, feels quick but i have a dilema. ... Read more
