My newly-acquired car has an Alpine stereo with auto-reverse tape and a CD changer, badged simply as 'Jaguar'. It seems to work ok but I don't have an instruction book for it. Does anyone know what model Alpine it might be, so I can try to find an instruction book download?

Thanks again.
Yes, it is original as far as I know.
I'll give Jaguar a try - they have been very friendly and helpful with other queries so far...

My OH's sister's family are returning to the UK and they need an mpv on a shoe string. They have 3 kids and a grandma to transport so they need a minimum of 6 seats. They definitely want a diesel for some reason. They don't want italian which is a shame as I think the multipla would have been ideal as it seats 3 across so you wouldn't have had either grandma or one of the kids in the boot. Obviously they want something as new, reliable and low mileage as possible.

Are there any legal restrictions on types or ages of passenger you can have in rear ward facing seats in these mpvs? If you have either or both seats in use is there any boot space left?

Well. Zafira was discounted because it stunk of fag smoke. Also there is a further complication in that grandma is in a wheelchair so that won't fit in the zafira anyway. It might fit in a multipla. The only sensible option was a hiace with 8 seats and a decent boot but the fuel consumption is woeful so that's out. Hmmmm. It was a 3 litre diesel auto.

I am wondering whether they would qualify for motability or other financial help as this grandma is blind and in a wheel chair and the family are basically returning to be her carers.

If there is something exactly like a hiace but which gets 35 mpg + then I think that would be the thing to go for....

When i turn the key in the ignition several lights should come on for a few seconds, e.g. Airbag Light, etc and also the battery light should illuminate until the engine is started. For some reason my battery light no longer comes on when i turn the key, whats even more weird, is that my electric windows, and clock light dont work either. But when i start the engine, and rev it, as soon as it hits 2000rpm there is a click and the battery light illuminates and stays on, my clock light comes on and my electric windows work once this battery light comes on. I have also noticed that when driving at night, my headlights get brighter once the click happens also the lights behind the speedo get brighter. When i turn the engine off it kinda resets and to get the electrics working again i have to start the engine and rev it to 2000rpm.

If it helps my rear wipers dont work at all, and my passenger electric windows doesnt work either, but i think they are probably different problems to this one.

Thanks....Mike Read more

The fuse for the alternator warning lamp has blown.

The usual cause of this is a broken parking switch in the rear wiper motor. If the fuse has failed and blows when the rear wiper is used, unplug the wiper motor until a repair can be made.

Stupidly designed electrical system - bottom of the class PSA.

Hi everyone

I had a problem with my Vectra in Feb when it cut out whilst driving home.

See thread with resolution:

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=72103&...f

Since then, the car has trouble starting. It takes about 3 to 4 seconds to start and when it does start I can hear a pop come from under the bonnet. It seems to only do it when cold, but I have had it do the same thing when warm as well. The only thing I've done so far is change the spark plugs but to no avail! When it does start it runs great.

Is my starting problem someway linked to my problem I had in Feb? Read more

Hi everyone!

Got a 1.8 LS Vectra 101K miles that has some difficulty starting.

About 12 months ago it conked out whilst driving it home, turned out to be the fuel pick up pipe in the tank came off. Fixed it and all was ok. Around a week after it was fixed it was taking around 3 to 4 seconds to start from cold, once it had started it ran great.

Now nearly 12 months on, still not starting great and this morning it was really bad trying to start. Engine cranked for a good 6 seconds, nothing, tried again and it started after about 4 seconds, again, once it had started, runs great.

It has been regularly serviced with all plugs replaced but no better. Some mornings it will start first time almost immediately but not that often!

Has this anything to do with the pick up pipe problem I had almost 12 months ago? I can't see it myself as if it was the pipe the car would not run at all. Am I correct in assuming this?

Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can shed some light please....

I bought a focus last night and cannot get the passenger door to lock. I know the guy so its not a duffer might have just been bad timing.

For the last 6 months the front passenger door has locked intermittently. All he used to do was push the lock in from inside and then use the fob to lock it all from outside. No problem. Now when I got it home I got in the house and locked it. Came back outside and unlocked. By the time I got to the passenger it was still locked so opened it using the non fob ( possibly? ) key.

Now my problem is I cant lock the car due to the passenger door being 'stuck' locked somehow. If I use the fob/driver doorlock inside or out it just bounces up. I cant physically press in the button to lock the passenger door ( all others work ) from the inside as its stuck solid. If from the outside I try and unlock/lock nothing 'electrical' or mechanical seems to happen and the car still cant be locked.

Any ideas as I cant drive the car and park it anywhere till I can sort it.

Many thanks. Read more

Door lock/latch mechanism is knackered on passenger door. Regular fault due to poor plastic components inside the mechanism falling to bits.

Get one from Ford dealer spares place. You know when it's a regular fault as they always have the parts in stock. Make sure you tell them if the car has deadlocking locks or not to ensure you get the correct mechanism. ~£70

I've done both doors on my 2000 focus due to them failing. Bit of a fiddly job, but not too bad. Just dont drop any bits into the bottom of the door like I did.

Reported in today's papers - Young gentlemen seen driving dangerously by cornering on 2 wheels, passengers hanging out of the car, etc. Reported to police by public, who arrived at the home of the owners. Father lined up sons, who refused to admit who was driving. Dad grounded both by the simple expedient of selling the car at a give-away price. Police expressed satisfaction at stern parental action. bought a year old sedona from a large scottish dealership begins with snip - see name and shame policy .Got car home and saw front and full nearside sprayed. I suspect between me buying it and uplifting it a few days later, but can't prove it. Returned car next day, dealer has been coming up with unsuitable replacements damage repairs etc. Basically I'm looking for a refund which they are refusing, been to trading standards, and my lawyer, basically looking like a long court case while they sit on my 11k and I have no car. Giving serious thought to sitting outside their place with posters hoping to put buyers off, as the only thing these guys know is to hit their sales bonus. Hoping credit card company comes up with something but the way things are going not looking good for me, basically they can stretch it out while I've got thin air. Read more

Findings were the UK needs to accept we will never have a UK owned car industry again.

The failure of Matchbox cars is now being replicated on the full size models.

We should be concentrating on innovation, advanced manufacturing and the development of green vehicles.

Smiths vehicles were featured who convert Transit vans to run off batteries. If the public sector moved onto these vehicles it would be a real boost to UK manufacturing - but as yet there is no desire to do so.
