After changing the cambelt on my 1992 405DL the diesel injector pump leaked badly around the throttle spindle. Tried unsuccessfully to get a second hand pump and was about to scrap the car when I was told to try running the engine on tickover "until the engine was hot". To stop the leak as a temporary measure I pulled up on the shaft with the linkage removed as this seemed to overcome the problem until the linkage was replaced. Fuel still flooded out around the shaft if I levered it back towards the engine but it was only slightly oozing out if I didn't touch it. Ran the engine on tickover for 30 minutes and- hey presto- the leak had disappeared (even if the shaft was levered backwards), and so far has not returned (3 days so far). I can only assume that the problem was caused by the Haynes manual instruction to turn the engine over twice by hand, as the fuel cutoff valve would not be open and there could be pressure buildup in the low pressure side of the pump. Still don't understand how running the engine for 30 minutes made it all OK. However I now believe that magic is an acceptable engineering approach! Worth a try if you are suffering the same problem after a cambelt change. Read more
I need to fit something large and square into the back of a late V70, but due to 'styling' the hole isn't now as big as the old style and 850 (into which I can fit it).
If anyone has one of these, would they be kind enough to measure it for me, or point me to somewhere I can find the info.
I need to know the width at the bottom, height from bottom centre to top centre, but most importantly the width of that full height, ie. how wide is it at the top before it tapers down to the corners. Many thanks.

The condensers suffer from leaves accumulating in front of them and rotting, which does the condensers no good at all. Clear them out regularly.
Hi The diesel pump on my Mk1 mondeo and is losing alot of diesel while the engine is running. I thought initially the patch my car was leaving on the ground was power steering fluid, but I've been told by National garage staff that it's the diesel pump that is leaking.
The leak has now become much worse and leaves a constant trail wherever I go. Can this be fixed or does the whole pump have to be replaced? Does anyone have any idea how difficult this replacement/repair is likely to be or costs etc.
Any help would be great, cheers.

Thanks. I'll try and get a diesel garage to take a look at it so I know exactly where it's leaking. The guys at National didn't seem to have a clue. It took two visits before they could even work out that it was the diesel pump that was leaking in the first place!!!
Cheers.
Quite often, as today, I see new or newish cars (less than 4 years old) pulling away at the lights leaving tremendous black clouds behind them. Even see newish cars, that smoke quite a bit even when just pushing forward a little in a queue.
To me, obviously victims of tuning boxes or remaps, but I would like to know how many legal standard cars it takes to produce the same amount of potentially health damaging pollution. I suspect its in the order of at least 50, in which case, isnt it about time it was cracked down on? Read more
Thank you b308 - I wasn't expecting that!

As suggested in my earlier post light commercial vehicles are the worst offenders
I'm with you on that, and I suspect it applies to both diesel and petrol powered versions!

I am pleased to say bull bars seem to have disappeared much quicker than I expected in the my urban area, except for on the odd ancient 4 X 4. Read more

Hi Everyone,
I have a MK1 Ford Focus 1.8 TDDI (2000, W Plate). I have recently purchased a pair of aftermarket Corbeau Seats for the front, they went in a treat but now I have an airbag light which flashes on my dashboard.
I know why its there, the previous seats had the side airbags and have now removed has activated the light, when the car is started the light flashes 5 times then goes off and another 5 times then off. Once this has happened it will then stay on permanently.
I have read on some forums that you can trick the airbag module with a resistor; I have not tried this yet because I was wondering if anyone knew what ohm resistor I should get? If anyone has any other way to get around this problem then that would be of great help to me.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Simon

Thanks for your help, do they need to be exactly 3 ohm? Also would I need to get the light reset the resistors are installed or should it just go away?
Thanks Simon

hi all,
1st time user here up in jockland. My problem is this, my xantia 1.9td rear suspension has stuck in the high possition! Bouncing me & everyone to the point of whiplash or car sickness which ever comes 1st, mind you the kids seem to get a giggle out of it! Beats paying for the shows! lol! The lever inside the the car is at normal position. What does a height corrector valve look like, are they cheap & are they easy to replace for someone with above average mechanical skills?

If its just the plastic link thats broken, once you have it in the air, quite an easy job, squirt some oil on the linkage while your there, they can stick.
Maybe a help but I needed some dimensions for a BMW 3 Series and contacted the customer service dept at the HQ they kindly e-mailed quite detailed diagrams with all the measurements back to me, may help to say something like I am interested in purchasing a etc etc.
