Citroen C5 (2008 - 2016)
2.0i 16v VTR+ Saloon
Beautiful drive, total lemon will suck you dry and break both your heart & bank
Purchased as a "stop-gap" sales exec car, before ending up in the "spare drivers" car pool.
Lovely car, was fought over in the early days as it is the most comfortable drive of all the cars we own (except possibly the latest new lease Audis we have).
However, soon turned sour with endless little niggles - trim breaking, mechanical faults such as constantly cutting out whilst driving, power steering issues, faulty windows etc. Sent the drivers around the bend and made it the lemon of the fleet no-one wanted.
In terms of costs, it was a steady stream of "just needs this to get it sorted" - until you added it up at the end of the year, and realised the costs were huge! Ok, so you could get 700 miles out of a tank - most fuel efficient car we own. But also, by far, the least realiable. And this is coming from someone who once had five rover 25 vans in the fleet!
Final straw was the failure of the steering rack due to leaking power steering hoses causing corrosion of the rack. The hoses had been fixed bit by bit at yet more cost, but the corrosion caused an MOT failure. With a repair bill of £1,100 for the rack alone, the car became sc***.
Great car to own, but would onbly ever buy one as a private driver if I was a mechanic.
Last Citroen that isn't a van that we will ever buy (& the first "brand" to be put on our "black-list" in 23 years, showing how much of lemon it has been!).
In a short summary:
Avoid.
I wouldn't even give ours away to someone I knew for free!
