Citroen C5 (2008 - 2016)
Exclusive 2.0 HDi 16v 160 5dr Estate
Well made and supremely comfy
Wouldn't have looked twice at a Citroen 10 years ago because I thought they were garbage, but this car was purchased at 47k and has now done 69k without any problems. Can't see the point of getting the C5 without the hydractive suspension, which initially feels odd, but is comfortable like no other car I've driven. The handling in sport mode is excellent. I don't want to go back to "normal suspension" for my next car.
It is a 6 speed auto so I get about 40mpg, more on a run. Also the steering wheel boss stays solid when you turn the wheel so you always know where the buttons are. The cabin is quiet due to 2 things- engine soundproofing and double glazed glass. Only gripe I have with it is that the hill hold function on the auto gearbox takes a while to disengage when you want to move off.
I've been driving a brand new Passat estate for work lately, and the Citroen is way ahead in every area I can think of, finish, build quality, quality of materials used, seats etc.
Overall, it's fast and smooth, excellent for motorway work.
