BMW X3 (2010 - 2018)
xDrive 20d SE Auto 5dr
Good to drive, reliable, economical
Bought new and now nearly 8 years old with 100k miles. Still have 4mm left on 2nd set of 17” tyres (non run flat Pirelli), brake pads last 70k front and 45k rear with discs every other set. Averages 41mpg mixed use and 50mpg on a motorway cruise around the legal limit. Great to drive with a quality spacious interior - we added heated seats and rear camera to the spec.
Dealers are expensive and generally inept, so we have had it serviced independently since warranty expired. The factory electric towbar has failed twice, once after 10months replaced under warranty and again at 6 years, £1500 to replace so have left it extended! A normal Westfalia detachable would have been a better choice. Otherwise nothing else has gone wrong.
Performance from 2 litre diesel is more than sufficient and the 8 speed auto is smoothness personified.
