BMW X3 (2010 - 2018)
XDrive 20d SE Auto 5dr 4 X 4
Great All Rounder
This is my 2nd F25 X3, auto the first being one of the earliest production models which could never achieve better than around 35mpg. This 2013 model is far more fuel efficient returning an average 40.3 mpg in mixed driving conditions. It is a pleasure to drive with good throttle response, engaging handling and great acceleration. The 8 speed auto is a peach though the gear changes are perceptible under hard acceleration. The ride on 17 inch wheels (with run flats) is comfortable, my first X3 on 18 inch wheels and sport suspension gave a hard ride. It's very car like to drive with little body roll which makes driving along winding roads a pleasure. The parking sensors with graphics on the info screen are excellent though a little 'over cautious.' Also, they need to be activated by engaging reverse or by switching them on. At around 6ft tall, I find there is plenty of room for me and rear seat passengers with plenty of adjustment options for the drivers seat. The boot is adequate rather than generous but features under-floor storage for small valuable items. There is plenty of storage in the cabin with 4 large door bins, centre console but a smallish (not-lockable) glove box. The instruments are clear, the switchgear and controls are high quality and are easy to access and use. The only problem I've had is the failure of the drivers window regulator which resulted in the window being stuck in the open position. Both front regulators were replaced under warranty. The only extras fitted to my car are the auto box, folding door mirrors and heated seats. Otherwise, everything I need in a car is already there, dual zone climate, leather seats, parking sensors, dipping rear view mirror, auto wipers, auto hold (great in slow moving traffic) etc. A great all-round car that should fulfil many lifestyle requirements whilst being relatively cheap to run. I have mixed views on the dealership experience, they are very good at selling but a little lack-lustre in other areas, especially at returning phone calls. That said the dealership premises are very pleasant with good refreshments and comfortable seating areas.
