Thinking of getting back into the motor trade (service reception). I would like to find out about training in this system. I can find plenty of reference on the net but it looks to me as though training is carried out by garages etc that have this system. If I could learn on line this would suit me (Lost a tendon in my shoulder after a life spent in manual work). Thanks Read more
I was surprised when both back and front windscreen washers stopped working on my 2 year old Focus. The problem was sediment and gunge in the reservoir which had blocked the filter. Unfortunately this is quite hard to get to, located under the wheel arch and behind the arch liner. The odd shape also made it tricky to clean the stuff out.
I've been playing with cars for over 40 years, and never had this problem before. I admit that over the years I have rarely added any washer additive, but why should I suddenly get this problem with a 2 year old car? In future I will try to remember to use an additive that will hopefully keep the system clean. Read more
In my experience the sediment/gunge seems to form when either poor quality screenwash has been used or a mixture of different screenwash brands have reacted with each other.
Hi All
having read all the dramas about getting plugs out, I can't seem to find what the plug gap should be set for a 1.3 Collection
cheers

Gap should be 1.3 mm for the Duratec engine
But only if they're single electrode plugs.
You shouldn't attempt to regap multi-electrode plugs as you will not get the gaps exactly the same.
Hi.
My battery warning light came on, then my abs & esp warning lights. Then the power steering failed. Then all the other warning lights came and the engine started to splutter as if running out of petrol although it has a full tank. The engine died and will not restart.
Any ideas.
Thanks for any help Read more
Hi exactly the same thing has just happened to mine (06),voltage regulator and diodes burnt out,not too bad 97 to have alternator repaired, does anyone know if st2/3 needs a silver calcium battery or a lead acid one due to the smart charge system fitted to these cars as mine is still over charging on idle 15.6 v as opposed to 13.78v with smart charge system disconnected car can be used ok like this without risk to electrical system though.
Being overseas, my current and previous cars invariably express their parsimony via the computer as litres consumed per 100km driven. Is there a simple formula for recalculating fuel consumption into mpg? I get there eventually but I tie myself in knots, first converting the litres into gallons, then calculating how many gallons I've used over 62 miles... etc.
And is 8.6l/100km a decent figure for a BMW 335D?! TIA. Read more
Ok its a while since I worked it out , I was aware that the 272 fig was perhaps not correct.

I have recently purchased a 1.8 Zetec, its great but the heated rear screen (and mirrors) won't heat.
When I press the button the light comes on but goes off straight away. There is also a click from the relay in the glovebox.
I have changed the relay and the relevant fuses but it still doesn't work!
(I dont think its connected but the air recirculation does not work either.)
I have searched the net and this forum and cannot find a solution. Any suggestions as to what I can try next to resolve this? Read more

We weren't going to use the Note today and it's been standing since Friday.
Needing to get something out, I confidently pinged the key at it...nowt happened. few more pings and I went and got the other key. Nothing again ! ' Car battery flat ' thought I....first frost.
Not to worry, I'll open it manually and junp start it......think again Ted, No keyholes.
Car down drive at back of house, in 'park ' and handbrake on ! Rang main dealer, spoke to mechanic. ' There's an emergency keyhole under the trim by the passenger lock ' Great !
Car nearside 4 inches from 6ft fence.....opened it but couldn't get in.
Ended up removing the fence panel from neighbour's side. Opened the bonnet, put her on charge and went and got another battery....original only 3 yrs old.
What a kerfuffle !

I agree - we've just come back after two weeks in South Africa, and all the cars started up straight away, including the 8-year-old Z3 which was idle for over 3 weeks.
It may have been a dud battery in Ted's case, but if it happens again there's surely a fault, or a wrong note at least.
My Mazda garage confirmed that the engine malfunction light was due to the EGR valve and wanted to charge me £400+ for a new valve. The car isn't driving badly but does have idle problems occasionally and can stall at low revs.
I have read elsewhere on this site that the EGR valve can be cleaned and that there is EGR valve cleaner available which I have located at my local motor factors. My problem is how do I find where to spray this cleaner as the guys in the motor factors had no idea and I don't know where the air intake hose is located. The car is a diesel. Can anyone help? Hi Mate
I had a 04plate Mazda 6 and had similar problem to yours. My car would stall at traffic lights and check engine light would turn on every now and then.
you can read about my experience on

The mazda main dealer asked me to get the EGR valve replaced and he said, this would fix the car. But after i got the EGR valve replaced with 2 weeks the car would not even start. Then mazda main dealer told me the fuel pump could be causing the problem and I should take my car to Feather diesel. Read more on my thread above.
Hope you have better luck than me, with Mazda 6.

the windscreen wiper motor on my 53 reg corsa was seized up. it was operating really slow. it was taken out and freed off. when re installed the motor moved a little then stopped there is now no power to the motor. i have tested each wire on the plug that goes to the motor and there is nothing. is it possible the motor has blown a fuse in the fuse box. i have checked the fuse box under the bonnet and there is no blown fuse. is there another fuse box somewhere else??? what else could it be im stuck here guys. many thanks rich

Hi, new contributor here but have been reading for several months.
This morning i was doing a 3 point turn soon after start-up in my 2.0 tdci when a strange noise that can be best described as 'twanging' came from the steering along with a faint vibration. This happened when turning the wheel in each direction at very low speed. The noise was very brief and disappeared as soon as i straightened the wheels Note i was not even at full lock. The car was serviced (independant) last week and was fine over the weekend on several journeys.
I left the car at home today as it was of some concern and went by train, but will have to face the problem upon my return. Now i don't claim to be especially technically minded i'm afraid, but i am keen to learn and was wondering if anybody had any idea what this could be?
I assumed a power steering problem of some kind, but a colleague has mentioned springs. Read more
Why would the wheel fall off. Regards Peter
Yes, Kerridge is not a bad system, like any system it has its idiosyncrasies and annoyances but having gone to it after 3 years exposure to a SAP system that was (badly) altered to suit the automotive arena, it was much much better. Kerridge is a system designed purely for automotive use and as such it is quite intuitive.
I would agree it has maybe gone downhill a bit, but trust me it's better than the alternative!
I used to work in a very busy luxury dealership, and whilst many other things let me down (mostly sales staff!), Kerridge rarely did!
