Unusual Autos

Just noticed over last month a increase in camera locations being install around main routes
A3 has new tower cameras at every turn up to Guildford from Tolworth and the M4 all the way into wales
Is this the end of speeding ?
Is this also because we were told Gps would be possible by 2007?

(For those that dont know ,we were told five years ago that a box would be fitted to every car and the car would go no faster than the speed limit in that area, goverment press agent at the time said would be law by 2007 )

Anyone know any different ?

Its not just your car that could then be subsequently tracked,
you yourself via your clothes can be tracked at each and
every store you walk into and out of.

Well the answer to that is obvious - streaking!

Hi Guys,

Maybe someone can throw some light on this one:

I own a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 2.0 TD, this afternoon I set off and went up the gears as normal, however on trying to change down from 3rd to 2nd (and 2nd to 1st) I found that I could not engage the gear that I wanted.

There is no crunching, it is just physicallly impossible to select the gear. Once I come to a stop (or dip the clutch a number of times) I can get the gear I was looking for.

The car has a hydraulic clutch so I bled that, however this did not solve the problem.

Has anybody experienced this, any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks, Stephen Read more

Mitsi synchro is well-known for being a little 'weak' - the synchro units themselves are quite small diameter. IIRC they use double-cone synchro's on 1st and 2nd. They are not great even when brand new (rather 'notchy').

A big improvement can be obtained by changing the gearbox oil to a 70W-80 GL-4 (rather than the 75W-90 that's in there now). Redline Oils MTL will do the job, Morris Lubricants also make a suitably thin oil.

Mitsi's are usually much worse when cold (first few miles) and in cold weather. Also synchro usually feels worse on the upshift than the downshift for some reason.

They are an easy gearbox to rebuild - all held together by snap rings. They synchro's IIRC are around £70 for the components per gear.

Ps Does anybody know who makes the new wafer thin lightbar
fitted to these new vans

I was also wondering this after seeing these new lightbars, after a bit of Googling I found that they're 'Streetlazer' LED lightbars manufactured by American firm ECCO www.eccolink.com and supplied in the UK by Vision Alert, although the Vision Alert website is well out of date and makes no mention of the product.

www.emergencyequipmentshop.co.uk sell them online.

Hi I am thinking about buying a pipercross induction kit for my 04 corsa sxi..Just looking for your comments..is it worthwhile, how much extra performance can I expect, how easy are they to fit.or am I wasting my hard earned cash? Read more

nutty_nissan

nope, will sound great when accelerating, might add a few bhp, but you won't notice it, certainly not on a corsa.

There's not really much you can do to improve the performance of a Corsa. You might think of switching to a Saxo VTR or whatever it's called, as it's relatively rapid.

I need to purchase a couple of 3-12 year old child seats and have had a look at the Concord lift-evo's.

Does anyone have any experience of these - with such a precious cargo to carry - I just wanted to ask the experts that are the HJ backroomers.

Your advice on these or any other seats would be welcome. Read more

I have one of the original concord lifts. Good car seats as its one of the few that has a backrest on a booster. Also had good crash test results.
Only trouble I have with mine is it moving around when a child is not in it. In the end I resorted to strapping it to the seat with luggage straps through the holes provided.

Hi folks

Some of you may recall that we collected a brand new 2.2 dci Columbia edition in March. I'm aware there were problems with the earlier models and that these were rectified.

However, 2 weeks after collecting the car it began to shudder/jerk at any speed and in any gears. This occurs intermittantly and can run beautifully. We have taken it in to Nissan 3 times since then and they claim the car is running "as good as gold" and the computers cannot find a fault. Extremely frustrating.

So we will go back this evening to collect the car and inform them that we are not "legally accepting the car". We have told them this on the phone and as we have a nominal finance deal, we have to do it through them.

I expect this to be a long drawn out saga as well as being painful but we are determined not to accept the vehicle. I have been on the X-Trail group on Yahoo and there are some folks who are also experiencing similar problems with their vehicles so it appears this may be a common fault, once again!

Nissan Finance have tried the bully boy tactics already claiming that it's extremely difficult to seek refunds on new vehicles and that we will need a solicitor. They had a good laugh down the phone about this.

This is one we are determined not to let them win. We are in regular contact with Consumer Direct and Trading Standards who are monitoring the situation.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar position, whether with the same vehicle or another.

Cheers.

I know diesels are supposed to be economical but I didn't realise they were so good that you had to be careful that the fuel in your tank didn't go past it's "best before" date! Crikey!
